How low the US administration can be?

I didn't say ANYTHING about credibility. Some were refusing to acknowledge that the story is true, or attributing the remarks from the 'unnamed source' as a NY Times fabrication.

I merely showed another source. Personally, I think a number of people just don'tlike this story.
Your doing more spinning then a Clinton caught with his pants around his ankles, VooDoo!

Give it up, the story is bull and you know it. :crazyeyes

Well guys, you know what?

If you just drink enough beers while reading what ever newpaper you read then it doesn't really matter what it says, or if it's right or left in it's oppinions! Because you can most likely not remember what you read the next day or you couldn't understand what the paper said in the first place.

So the answer to all your questions llies in  - just drink enough...............

:sniper:

Lol.

Looks like I was right, so what would I have to spin? Everything I wrote about this turns out to be quite true.

AofA, talk about spinning. How do you do that with your head in the sand? ;)

What's funny is how this thread has evolved, huh?

At first it was 'that has to be false'

Then it was 'well  , look at the source'

Now even the part I was dubious about (the 'disinformation' part of the story) has been confirmed by good ol' Rummy.

So now its 'I don't mind if they lie. what do you expect?':D

Ah, nice.

The Smartertimes. Don't they just take NY Times stories and put a conservative spin on them.

Mmmmm mmmm, give me some of that! :vomit:

So, you still believe that fairy tale?

Enron stock heading your way! :goodjob:

Back on topic. I wonder if we are really not supposed to laugh at a statement like this:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Wednesday that a Pentagon campaign to influence global opinion will not include lies to the public, but might employ ``tactical'' deception to confuse an enemy for battlefield advantage.

Aaah that assuages all my fears. . Now I know that the State dept. is definitely going ahead with this Propaganda BS;)

In all fairness to the U.S. Gov't I think the purpose of this office is being misunderstood.

To understand why this is being done you must first understand the need. If you were to go to a market in Cairo, Damascus or Rijadh?, and asked the people there about the WTC attacks, some of the responses would be quite absurd. On I heard quite often was the Jews set up the attacks. That's why they all missed work that day.

Rumors like this are abound in the Mid-East and there isn't anyone around who will stand up and say that's not true.

This office is not out to cause rebellion or anything like that (that's what the CIA is for). It is there to simply improve the U.S. in the eyes of others.

Why does everyone concern themselves so much with this?? I just can't figure it out when there are so many more important issues out there.

Because some people scan the news headlines and look for oppertunities to attack the U.S.'s policies. Its a very strange phenomenon.

Was watching Canada's "Vision TV" this morning. Watched some "media critic" with a regular show sit and explain his "evidence" that Bush knew about the WTC attacks before he said he did.

Maybe the US will need that OSI after all.

Is it a done deal?

I read something about 'Rummy' debating whether or not to drop it, but I hadn't heard for sure. They realized that this plan to make us look better was only making us look bad.

Hope you're right.....

I listened to a Meet the Press interview with Rummsfeld this last weekend about this and of course paid particular attention to the topic because of this thread. He may have been covering, and I 'm sure I'll not convince some of you otherwise, but everything he was saying about this office was legitimate, and did not sound sinister at all.

Many of you may not believe this, but I don't think the purpose of the office was to spread lies about the US that were positive. I think it was to counter lies spread about us by our enemies. The deception thing to me was only related to military action. It should also be noted that deception is not the same as lying. If the military lets the media show the 101st airborne getting ready and boarding planes, and then speculates that the invasion will be airborne, it is not lying to not correct them that it will actually be amphibious. Some would view it as deception, but I don't see a problem with it. That was the deception that Rummsfeld talked about on the interview.

So, most Americans tie Global Crossing to the Democrats.

Bush had about as much to do with Enron's collapse as Martha Stewart did for K-Mart's.

Get your facts straight, RM.

We all know damn well it was Rosie O'Donnel that brought down K-Mart.

Seriously, though, I was *****ing and moaning about Enron way before the crash. To anybody that would listen :D . But at the time it was because I felt they had undue influence on our energy policies.....not screwing their employees over.
