In your normal everyday outfit how many pockets do you have? What do you use them for. Do some always remain empty; if so are they lonely? Wallets are not pockets but purses have pockets and are included in the total. Normal for me is 3 pockets unless it's really cold then 9 plus pockets. Briefcases have pockets too and can be counted if you caryy one regularly.

I carry wallet (no change), keys and cell phone in pockets. One pocket is lonely but sometimes i finger it to see if i inadvertently put something in there anyway. Normal outfit is shorts and tee-shirt (im a landlord) if temps get under 30 I throw a jacket on. I like the cold.

Excessive fingering of pockets is a potential indicator of terrorist activity.

Landlord huh. Really?

Four usually, I only use two though.

Cell phone and papers go in left front pocket, wallet and keys go in my right front pocket.

I carry wallet and keys in one, cell phone in another. So I only really need two pockets.

However, I typically have 4 on my pants, 5 if the change pocket on jeans is counted, 0-1 on shirts depending on whether I'm wearing a collared shirt or something less formal, and my coats have a minimum of two outer pockets, and the heavy winter one 2 inner pockets.

So at any point, I could have 4 to 10 pockets (not including backpacks and other non-typical clothing).

Official ruling:

Backpacks do NOT count if you just carry them from point A to point B. If you carry them with a hand on the backpack itself then it counts. Thats' why briefcases count because there is the intimate hand relationship.

Pants-4, one of my back pockets has my wallet, the other back pocket has my checkbook and my work badge (if I'm working obviously), one of my front pockets has cash* (always start the day with bills, then after buying stuff have change), the other front pocket is lonely unless I need to put my keys or smokes/lighter in it (when at work I keep these in my lunchbox).

*That is unless I am someplace that is notorious for pickpockets then everything goes in the front pockets.

Shirt-1 (some of them have a pocket, some don't). Never use it for anything.

Jackets and coats-All have at least 2 and one of my coats also has a pocket on the arm. Never use them.....well unless it's something too big to put in my pants pocket. Then I forget that crap is in those pockets. I still have a christmas card in my arm pocket.

My pants have 4, of which I only use the 2 side pockets. If I wear a button-up shirt, that adds one breast pocket. The lab coat adds another if I'm doing a procedure. My jackets usually add 2-4 pockets.

Depends on the circumstances and the weather.

At work, I have just 2 regular + 1 back + 1 shirt.
Outside of work, I always wear cargo pants, so I have at least 6 by default, depending which cargo pants I'm wearing.
If it's cold weather outside, I will wear my M65 military parka, which adds another 4.
I don't know how backpacks and other stuff count. But that puts me at 4 minimum, 6 regular summertime, and 10 regular wintertime.

I need a minimum of 3 pockets. I have a phone, a wallet, and keys, just like everyone else (I also have multitool, gum, camera, etc - but this is the minimum). I don't like sitting on either of them, and I don't like combining any 2 or more of them in one hip pocket. So for that reason, I never wear jeans. And I don't understand how anybody can.

EDIT: Headphones, wallet-for-change, etc... I need my pockets.

This time of year, usually 8. I wear cargo shorts to school except in the coldest weather. My cargos have 6 pockets. Most of my jackets have 2 pockets (one has 4) and I usually wear a jacket this time of year. In the winter, I wear jeans which only have the standard four pockets. I do keep a jacket on then. In the summer I wear gym shorts with only two pockets alot. So any where from 2 to 10 (6 on shorts, 4 on jacket.) I voted 3-5 in the pole.

The only things I keep on me is a phone and wallet (I don't drive). Wallet either goes in my back left pocket or the extra cargo pocket on my shorts. Phone goes on one of the left pockets either on my pants or jacket. My right hand pockets only occasionally hold my hands.

Helpful hint: Pickpockets will sometimes station themselves near signs that say: "Beware of pickpockets". The natural inclination of someone is to brush their hand over the pocket with their wallet thus revealing the pockets with valuables.

Pockets
warm weather - 5. Jeans contain four, shirt typically contains one.
cold weather - 9. Jeans have four, coat has four, shirt has one.

Items
warm weather - wallet, phone, keys, headphones, 4gb flash drive.
cold weather - the above, plus a hat and gloves in my coat pockets.

I use two jeans pockets: wallet goes in one, keys, flash drive (on the keyring), and phone go in the the other. My headphones usually end up in my shirt pocket or in my coat pockets.

Then I also carry a briefcase pretty much everywhere. That contains papers, either my laptop or tablet (depending on what I plan to do that day), a minimum of two more flash drives (2gb Linux bootable USB, 8gb general-purpose), a pocketknife, etc, etc.

Does anyone still wear a watch? I stopped last year, as it started feeling redundant.

6 on the pants (sort of cargo pants), 4 in the jacket = 10.
Does a backpack count too :D?

In the pants I use 4: 1 for keys, 1 for my mobile, 1 for the wallet, 1 for another sort of wallet with misc stuff (car papers, driver license, health insurance card, a bit money, etc.).
In the jacket there's in one normally a pen and lock de-icer, and at least one if filled with random papers.

A good rule, which is why I always keep my stuff in the front. It's a lot harder to steal.

Also, my jeans have fairly deep pockets, so they would have to reach pretty deep to get my stuff.

4 in my jeans. If I'm wearing my jacket, another 3 (2 on the outside, and the inside breast pocket).

I keep my wallet in my breast pocket when I'm wearing a jacket. Harder to pickpocket.

Yea I stopped wearing a watch maybe 5 or 8 years ago. I use to wear a watch with temp altimeter etc. but aps on phones these days kind of make everything redundant. I have tried to wear watches for nostalgic reasons but they feel like a weight now. weird.
