How modest are you? Do you think everything you belive is guarenteed to be right?

Do you think everything you belive is right?

Well, I'm honest, and I normally admit when I might be wrong, or when I am just plain outright wrong. I'm willing to entertain the thought that I'm wrong in subjective debates, but I take a lot of convincing :D

I used to think that I was right about many issues.
Reality proved me wrong.

When enough time passes men learn from their mistakes, or not.
I guess only thing I believe now is that I do learn from mistakes.
The idea helps me breeth more freely.

I consider this to be a true test of someone's intelligence. The ability (want, desire)to seek answers to what they dont understand. The more they know the more they dont know. To me this is a sign of intelligence.

I can be wrong. That's why I need other people to bounce ideas off of. :)

I don't think one must be modest to think that he is not always going to be right.

shortguy, you are always right! :p And this is just another case in point. Why, I'm not the least bit modest, but I'm absolutely certain that I'm not always right. (That there is what you call a self-guaranteeing prophecy :mischief: )

Well yeah but then if I take the logic of this further if you enter a discussion with the belief that you are never wrong then you will learn nothing, do this enough times and you are actually foolish do it consistently and over your lifetime and your a clown.

Few people are arrogant enough to assume they are never wrong, I do have a friend who was like that though, he just would never admit he was wrong it's like talking to a brick wall, people are wrong all people: it's not a bad thing to hold up your hands and say 'I am talking arse ok I admit it' in fact if anything it makes you more human. How dangerous is always having to be right to the psyche?

I used to be right most of the time.....then I got married......and now I am constantly reminded how wrong I can actually be!

But seriously, to be wrong and make mistakes is the best way of learning, but to continue to make the same mistakes is just plain stupid!

Anyone who thinks they are always right needs help.....and some friends!

I have met a few people that are like this. You try to enlighten them and they just drown you out. What they know is what they know. Correct or incorrect. They wont revise their viewpoints because they are not open to accepting new ideas. These people deal in absolutes and are stuck where they are.

I don't think everything I believe is right, is just that other people's beliefs are wrong.

Rumsfeld is the new I Ching. :)

Is that a triple negative?

Do not create a public poll, ask whether those polled possess something generally agreed to be a virtue, and expect honest answers.

Aw cmon perfection, no ones going to go through past posts to prove when you knew you were wrong and admited it. It's just a statement of fact that you have been wrong and will be again, tell you what, next time you are wrong I'll highlight it in blue marker pen just so I can feel some waft of insignificant triumphant wind on my cheek that didn't originate from where the sun doesn't shine, na scratch that, why bother, your human like the rest of us, get over it :D
