Well in my games I war alot but my units go on strike Im talking about when i havent got gunpowder btw and I cant attack while im going on strike as i would clearly lose

I have a few questions: What should be considerd a big enoguht army and what units and how many of the units needed to attack 3 towns. How should i afford this without going on strike. should i keep buidlnig an army while my other army attacks? and how many should defend my own cities

Well, it is hard to say how many units you will need without seeing a screen shot or no what kind of units you are using. Are you planning on spliiting the stacks to hit all three cities at once?

You should bring enough siege so you do not loose a lot of units throwing them against the city walls.

Another thing you can do, is lower your research slider to zero and build up gold for a few turns. You will win gold when you take the cities, and you will be able to catch back up once you can work the land you have conquered.

I will also build gold in a few cities while the army moves to keep the troops afloat.

War is fun but its needs to be backed by a good economy. Learn the economic aspect of the game, there are some good guides on this forum.

Specialise a few cities for commerce using cottages then you should only in rare cases risk strike. If you do go on strike you can always build 'wealth' in a city or two

You're not building cottages. Or maybe you're not building enough workers to build cottages.

Maybe. But he might not have the happy cap to work those cottages, or enough cottages to support his army. Hard to say with the few details given, and the long time period (sometime before gunpowder......). So if he is looking for quick war early game, MORE cottages might not help, or might not mature in time to help the short term goal in capturing cities.

You really need to post a save for review. If you are talking gunpowder at this point, your economy should have been long established. You can get a lot of good feedback by posting a save or starting a shadow game from the start.

Agree that a post would help. But it sounds like you probably have gotten enough land already to simply ride out the game to a win. However, you may be aiming for a conquest/domination win. Some players can conquer the world with deficit income from like 1 AD to 1200 AD. Not sure how they do it but conquest gold and savvy tech selling come into play. I suspect that once you head down this road you simply have to keep going. The good news is that if conquest is the goal, city razing and barbs are helpful. You need not conquer the barbs to win. Try not to keep every city, just the really good ones.

You can't support an invasion force because of your poor economy. In fact, your economy is so poor you can't even do any effective research if you've bankrupted at 100% Tax level!

I wouldn't continue that game of yours but start a fresh one and avoid early over-expansion, as it hurts your economy. You pretty much need to do your homework and read up on the economic aspects of the game. Read through the game manual and look for any useful guides in the War Academy.

But don't get discouraged - its a very complex game there are many pitfalls yet for you to encounter. But any empire management starts with economy. Build up your games from a stable economy, then you can start thinking about building invasion forces. :king:

don't keep your research at 100% (in case you did not know the slider is at the top right) but don't keep it lower then 60% usually which can be done in a few ways:

1. cottage more
2. don't over expand to early
3. try to keep your cities inside the happy and healthy cap (just click avoid growth in the city screen, add specialists to use extra food, or grab some extra resources)
4. try to build more buildings that help with increasing your economy like a grocer or bank

 as far as how many units you need to take three cities it really does depend on how many units he has so a screen shot will help but just have a good mix of CR catapults and ,I forget the name of the upgrade, but the one that gives you an extra 8% city defense reduction trebuchets and what ever the strongest infantry you have, also throw in some cavalry in case he throws some collateral damage units at you and to pillage some resources he has that he is building units with to counter attack you (if he sends some swords man at you i usually pillage his iron sources and then camp on them until the war is over and then i usually have control over them).
Then during post gunpowder just throw in some tanks as well. If his cities are coastal then build up a navy to blockade and take down his defenses even more.

I hope that helps:D
