Each year we see China's growth exceed expectations, and there is vast resources/wealth/people/space for this growth to continue.

China is beginning to become a very serious power, especially in Trade.

How soon, if ever do you think China will overtake America?

if china dosnt screw things up probably 50-100 years

you know, a little google and a perusal of some growth figures on the factbook would tell you that, if current trends hold, china's economy gets to be on par with the US in about 40-50 years

So that means.... around 2050. The same time as when Civ games end!

Coincidence? :mischief:

I can just imagine when that happens "The Chinese have won a time victory!"

Presuming that you are talking about economic power, that is projected to take place by 2050.

Which followed by a massive nuclear breakout, with all things come to an end and everyone restart their own civilisation with stone age technology.

Just like Civ.

And the survivors will then say: "Guess the Mayans were right all along. They were just off by a few decades." :crazyeye:

Precisely. But we weill hold onto some titles for longer I believe, like most coal produced, well maybe just consumed, but we have A LOT of coal here in the States.

But I have no idea how old this info is. I've found conflicting info all over the web. But I know we've got a lot of coal.

The projection I remember was that China's economy would be bigger then the US's economy in 2030-2035. It is an estimate and a lot of things can happen in 30 years.

I'd say more than 50 years, if at all. It seems like Chinese companies own very little of the things they produce.

Long time.

Coal? Coal is becoming less and less of a strategic resource since the mid 19th century.

50 years. Tomorow in fact.

The funny thing is as soon as they are on power economically and everything wont the chinese citizens have better living standards? My point is wont the wages increase and they will no longer be able to make cheap products enmasse and sell them for so low.

So once that happens wont they just be like the rest of the world?

Geographically China is very similar to the US, it's between similar latitudes with China being fractionally bigger.

I can't remember the exact figures but China has over 100 cities with more than a million people. The USA has 6. Is that about right?

Economically China has already surpassed the USA (being argumentative now) because it's output is more useful. The USA only seems to manufacture hi tech stuff like weapons and hot air (advertising, media, law etc).

The USA's advantage in communications has changed now as it's population mostly speaks Spanish and the Chinese are speaking more English. Of course this is a double edged sword and speaking Spanish is useful. But I think English still has the edge (but the Chinese are learning Spanish too).

The Chinese political system has some major advantages over the American one, namely long term planning is possible, growth through tax cuts isn't the only strategy going and it doesn't need to waste it's effort on wars so frequently. It also has fewer enemies.
