How to Abuse AI Catapult Building

So the AI is scripted in war to start with a bunch of non-catapult units, then if the war goes long, to build catapults.

Which, by the way, is a horrid script because catapults are arguably one of the worst units in the game (the battering ram is so much better).

The idea is to declare war on the AI, kill their units with archers. Around turn 10 or 20 of the war, all of the AI cities are spamming catapults, just when all of their non-catapult units are dead.

At which point you steamroll them.

Catapults are a usable unit with grape shot and 3 range.

Most other units are useful before they've been fielded inefficiently for dozens of turns though.

Obviously desynchronizing units that are mildly threatening to cities and units that can't damage walls effectively is bad play though. I don't think the AI knows how to use a battering ram, it would be amusing to kill those for free too.

The AI would arguably be much better at the game if one removed the rule that you have to conquer a city with a melee unit and simply made it so that bringing the city down to 0 health allowed any unit to move in and take it.

Yeah when AI rushes out catapults and I am attacking them it is pretty sad sight

Yes, well, if all those catapults were Xbows, that Roman push would have ended a long time ago.
