How To: Make Leaderheads! Ekmek's Guide

I'll check blender but your dido exported nif said it has isabella's skeleton.

Really? That's weird. It shouldn't because I didn't take the body off of Isabella, I took it from a nif of her body (with no skeleton at all as far as I could tell), I wonder if it would swap on to izzy then.

EDIT: Nope.

Hello again, Ekmek.

I seem to be having some trouble particularly with the Vanilla Leaderheads.

Firstly, I noticed that all of the Vanilla LHs and a few of the Warlords LHs have some weird boxes around them. So far it doesn't seem like they're causing me any problem, but do you know what they are, anyways, and are they safe to delete?

Secondly, the real problem I'm having is that every time I try to export a LH based on a vanilla LH, the same error message always comes up, saying something like "non-uniform scaling is not supported for [random part of the LH]". This has happened with every vanilla LH I tried to modify, so I'm not sure what's going on.

I have attached two pictures to this post, just in case my words don't make sense.

Thanks for your help!

Hello again, Ekmek.

I seem to be having some trouble particularly with the Vanilla Leaderheads.

I'll take this one for you Ekmek.

Firstly, I noticed that all of the Vanilla LHs and a few of the Warlords LHs have some weird boxes around them. So far it doesn't seem like they're causing me any problem, but do you know what they are, anyways, and are they safe to delete?

Don't do anything to these boxes, leave them there and don't worry about them.

This is happening because you are scaling and rotating things and not applying the scale/rotation to them. The reason you have to do this is because Blender doesn't understand objects like we do because it is a computer program. So when you pull up a crown, for example, it has no idea that it is a crown. All it is to Blender is an object, this means it has no idea which part is the top, the bottom the side, or if it is tilted or not. This is important because when something is "skewed" or "tilted" when you resize it it will resize in the skewed and titled direction rather than the way you would want it (I don't know if that makes sense to you). So whenever you resize an object you should try and "flatten" it out, or put it in a proper direction (most objects will be slightly tilted to fit on the model) before resizing it or rotating it. So once you do do resize or rotate it you should hit alt+a (it might be ctrl+a) I can't remember off-hand. A small menu will pop-up and you should apply the scale/rotation to the object. Make sure you do this whenever you resize or rotate something. That's all it is saying to you.

Okay, I am about to start on Clovis since the other LHs seem to be screwed up. If this one doesn't work I'm definitely doing something wrong somewhere. I'm going to post screen-shots of every step I take so maybe you'll notice something I do wrong and tell me what's up.

First these are the settings I am importing Nifs with. Is there any mistake here?

If there are this is how I have been importing everything, so does that mean I have to start from scratch on all of these LHs I have been working on? (Cetshwayo, Dido, Cartimandua, Maurits van Nassau :( )

yeah you have a bunch of unnecessary stuff clicked. my guide has a page on importing and shows what needs to be selected for import (and export).

I know you have some great LHs under your belt but let the pride go and follow the relevant parts of the guide until you get your groove back ;)

I have no pride man, :):):):), if I did I wouldn't be here. But I thought you told me that the guide was old or something a few pages ago? Is it updated now?

i didn't updated by the only thing old in it are the links.

What?

Anyway is there ANYTHING you think I can do to salvage the stuff I have there, or do I have to start over entirely? I was making Dido for Phungus' LoR mod and he keeps freaking out on me because his boyfriend achilleszero is gone. He literally went on a rant about me saying I'd make Dido but he'd have to wait (he said saying that is worse than never saying I'd make the LH at all, which makes no sense; better late than never right?), and now I have to tell him that I don't know when I'll have it done because it took me forever to ge that model to look like that and now I gotta try out a few easy ones before I do something like that.

I know this isn't your problem (or mine actually), but I don't want this dude whining again and also it would be much easier on me if there was some way I could salvage some of this LH. I'm thinking you're going to say there isn't though...

Thanks for the help, The Capo; I think I'm a bit too doozy right now to fully register what you've said, but I think I know what you're saying anyhow - I'll probably get it tomorrow. :)

EDIT: I just tried it, and it works; thanks! :D And good luck in dealing with your current LHproblems.

Ekmek, I need help! I made a leaderhead based on Bismarck and it works, but there is a problem with the neck I just can't solve. Could you take a look and tell me what to do?

How do I get a texture to show up on the reverse side of the model? I can't figure this out on my own. See my LH gallery for more details (its for Nehru).

you can flip normals in blender or add a stencil property in nifskope to texture both sides

What about my problem, Ekmek? Will you look at it?

lookingi nto it. I had a long neck issue with John Curtin when I put him on bismarck so I'm trying to see why

Well, I didn't put anything on Bismarck. This IS Bismarck. The neck is not long, but it folds itself inside and you can see the BG. I tried reassigning the neck and torso, but it didn't help.

I am having a couple of issues with adding shaders. First I'd like to say that adding shaders to these LHs makes them look much better, Cetshwayo looks way better with Shaders (Nehru sorta doesn't look that much better actually). So I'm pretty excited about this and I might have to shader some of the LHs I am using in my mod now.

That said, I have some issues. One of them isn't really related to shaders though.

I have attached an image where I indicate what I am talking about. First on Nehru, see the arrow pointing to the collar? Well I had initially fixed this by adding a stencil property but when I added shaders it reverted back to being see-through. Honestly the shirt really doesn't look much better with shaders, so if this is impossible to fix I could just remove the shaders I guess. Although the buttons do look much better with them, so if there was a way I could fix this and keep the shaders on the shirt I'd prefer that. I circled his hat, it appears to be glowing white but I can't figure out how to get rid of this, that's the part that has nothing to do with shaders because there are none on it, I got the hat off of a unit.

As for Cetshwayo, it is pretty obvious what is wrong, but I circled it anyway. How can I get rid of that? Do I have to edit that EMSK file or something?

Finally I have one more question. On Dido and Solomon I used some parts that were nonshader parts. Is there any way I can fix this or do I have to go back and replace them?
