Humankind Game by Amplitude

For a line of English Civ's I think it would be better if they skipped Medieval rather than Renaissance. There is a lot of medieval civs that could fill the gap what with all the invasions of Britain like Anglo Saxons, Vikings, Normans or simply Franks. Renaissance is the best time for an expansionist or merchant England to appear when their naval power increased and did things like colonising the new world.

BUT one cannot deny the enduring marketing appeal of English Longbows so I won't hold my breath.

Endless Legend, the previous Amplitude game, certainly took into account various weapons and armor types, "talismans" and some pretty exotic (Fantasy) Units. I would rather see fairly simple Combat Factors for the units, but wider Tactical variations and bonuses on their 'tactical battlefield' - Bonuses for Higher Ground, flanking or rear attacks, combining the right types of units side-by-side or behind each other ("support"), and maybe even Tactical Advantages inherent in some of the Emblematic Units, like the extra flexibility of the Roman Legion's formations or the extra cohesion of the Greek City-State Phalanx or the wedge formation of Macedonian Hetairoi. If all we're going to do is line up Units and count factors, we might just as well do Automatic Tactical Battles and avoid all the fuss.

The combat system is similar to Endless Legend in concept, but differs in the details of the resolution. Some aspects are simpler, others are probably more developed. In my experience, terrain definitely matters.

As terrain SHOULD :p

I'd love to tell you more, but then they'd send The Cleaner after me, and I am not ready to face that yet. So I will just say that it matters in some ways I did not expect of this style of "unstacking armies hybrid system," and there also some neat additions as the game progresses.

Will culture reveals be once a week until release or will they be amped up once the release dats gets closer?

I'm very excited to try the new combat. I do appreciate the army system in EL and the terrain there, so I can't wait to see the updates you guys have made to make it work with HK. (same for the city building!)

my guess is that we'll get releases for all Bronze and Classical civs, then get more on mechanics and features, repeat that for medieval/renaissance and industrial/modern.

Or they leave some cultures unannounced. Seeing as they are still in pre alpha I don’t know if 2020 is realistic.

That's a possibility, I'm hopeful for a full classical reveal, they did a collage for all ancient, I imagine we could expect another "complete era" collage for classical.

Worth noting. All that we've seen is Pre Alpha. Doesn't necessarily mean that's the stage development is in.

Auuuugh, damnit youtube... This was supposed to be unlisted until a few hours from now, but adding it to the playlist revealed it.

@mitsho If you read this in time, could you please remove the video link until we officially announce it? We don't want to jump the gun on our own press embargo.

P.S. I'll answer questions about landmarks and other details later.

I hope you don't mind me saying now: gorgeous stuff. Your art department is fantastic.

From the lack of gameplay footage and culture gameplay, I am very doubtful that this game will have a 2020 release date. We don’t even know that much about how the game starts out, let alone on how it will end.

I agree. Having it as Pre-Alpha is a concern, but they are advertising their release this year. I don’t know much about other games, but do many developers and publishers fail to meet their own pre-established release timeframe?

Maybe it will be released as a beta this year. Endless Legend and Endless Space were both available for purchase as beta.
