Hypothetical Scenario Poll: The Draft is Reinstated. What would you do?

The draft is resinstated. What would YOU do?

  • I accept my fate and go to war

    Votes: 23 37.7%
  • I flee the country\Protest

    Votes: 30 49.2%
  • My mouse is broken and this is the only button I can click on

    Votes: 8 13.1%

  • Total voters
    61
EDIT2 makes a pretty big difference, but I'd go with option one. Of course, it's easy to say that knowing it will never come up . . .

Sorry for the confusion. It's my first poll

It would depend on the reason for the draft. If things got that bad I would likely volunteer anyways. If I hadn't volunteered already it would mean I oppose whatever war is going on.

I would go, probably even volunteer. The nature of the conflict might change my mind though. If conditions are like what they are in Iraq now, I would go. If conditions are like what they are in Iraq for the insurgents, I would do everything I can to avoid it. Almost certain death is not a good recruitment tool.

If I couldn't get out of it, I'd flee. I refuse to fight in a war I don't believe in.

EDIT: To make it easier assume you are eligible

EDIT2: The war would be a take over of the whole of the middle east, the final chapter in the 'war on terror'.

That's easy. I would pre-emptively enlist in a service of my choosing, which I know would not likely be in harm's way. For example, I could enlist in the medical corps of the navy. Considering that any war in the Middle East is unlikely to involve much naval operations, and that a medical officer is even less involved in direct combat, I'd have it made.

The Marines would be seeing alot of action, I bet they would use Navy surgeons in medical facilities for them.

I'd volunteer, for the infantry.

I'd do my duty. I must say that I am bordering on disgusted at the number of people who say they would run away.

Poor bloody infantry.

Well, in that case I would go since there is no other choice. If I fled, I could not return to the country for a long time. It would screw up my livelihood and university career. Also, didn't Canada recently make an arrangement with the US stating that they would deport any deserters?

Still, I would make a bad soldier. I've never been in any dangerous situation, never fired a gun, and have an aversion to violence.

That's what everyone thought towards the navy during WWII...

Are you sure? It was known back then that the Germans had a navy and U-boats that harassed shipping (hence why the convoy system was developed). Not to consider the mighty navy of Japan had crippled America's navy at Pearl Harbor.

My duty to partake in the partition the whole middle east? To go against everyone of our countries principles? To assist in this country's already ubiquitous imperial hegemony?

Nah. I'd run the hell away from here, if it comes down to it, i'd go out fighting for MY rights. If this country won't respect itself, why the hell should I?

I chose the "my mouse is broken" option due to the implausibility of the scenario.

Sorry, you could enlist in the Navy as Hopsital Corpsman (HM) but the Marines do use Navy HM's (they don't have thier own), You can't 'enlist' as a Medical Officer as they get thier MD then are 'commissioned' into the Navy.
You could also go the 'concientious objector' way and serve the military in a non-combatant role, if you can prove that your religion is against any violence (Quaker) and you have a history of such beliefs.

Where is the button for: I'm already in the military.
