I am moderately hung over (not super bad, but bad enough) and I have to work in about 5 hours... What should I do?!

1) Eat a BLT sammich or some eggs & bacon
2) Drink lots of water or gatorade-like drink
3) Take a couple aspirin
4) Make use of some herbal remedies

go to sleep

sometimes a single beer helps with the hangovers

Have a bloody mary.

Barring that, a couple of alka-seltzer helps.

And for in the future, the main 'cause of a hang over is dehydration. If you have been out partying the absolute best thing you can do is drink up to 32 oz of water just before you go to bed. Try that next time and I gurantee your hangover wont be as bad.

Play civ. It could be an interesting experiance.

Don't drink more alcohol. Drink juice or vitamins, each what you can that is healthy. Rest. Convert to mormonism.

Actually this is good except don't put alcohol in it. Thats not what helps, its the tomato juice.

If you've got 5 hours a brief nap may also be helpful. But the single most important thing is to rehydrate yourself.

I'm a fan of treating hang-overs with poutine. Must be the cheese and gravy.

but in moderation.

I also find

helpful, but to each their own.

I've often found that sleeping makes you feel better in the short term, but when you finally get up out of bed you're still hungover.

It's better to rehydrate, get a good meal, exercise, take a shower, etc. At that point you should feel much better, and if you feel tired take a nap then. Your quality of sleep is much better when you've flushed all the alcohol out of your system.

Off-topic Aside: GinAndTonic, you are hereby given props. I, too, enjoy Bombay Sapphire. :goodjob:

If you are really dehydrated you need to get salt to rehydrate. If you cant eat a real breakfast (better) consume whatever salty snack products are to hand.

Also if you are hungover because you got drunk without eating food (you are foolish and) you need some calories. The empty calories of the booze are gone. Rectify this in some way.

I thank you, a genlem'n of distinction :hatsoff:

Soon it will be spring, and the Guinness and red wine of winter will give way to the iced cider and Saphire of summer, just about the same time I hang the coat up and break out the linen shirts.

If they sell Irn Bru anywhere near where you are, get some of that. It's supposed to work quite well for that.

Hydration + some pain killer + sleep. Drink a lot of water. Taking a vitamin won't hurt, unless you think it'll make you vomit.

I could never find a decent poutine in Toronto. You must give me tips!

The poutine here is awful. I haven't been able to find a really good one since St. Hubert's closed down all their restaurants around here about 10 years ago. :(

Now for a decent one I usually make it myself - buy St. Hubert's poutine gravy in a can at the grocery store. Hot gravy is the key.

Harvey's poutine is usually satisfying to my anglo tastes, but only if it's prepared properly - the problem is the automatons working there usually don't know what they're doing - they'll use cold gravy so the cheese won't melt, or they put ~way~ too much gravy on top, so you end up with a sort of french fry soup. It can be really nasty.

Spring's still a long way off up here in Michigan, but hear hear! It's all stouts and porters for winter beer drinking right now. Spring and summer means hefeweizen, some lighter ales and the crisp refreshing taste of Sapphire & tonic (with lime, of course).
