I Can Do Better (somewhat Open SG - Read on)

You play your turns. This way you actually have a chance to use the leader on something. Technically, you could build an army with it, but I don't think microbe would like the lifespan of it.

IHT – Immediately change a couple builds to settlers. Three appropriate towns get switched to aqueducts.

I leave the specialists, since increasing the lux will cost us 11 gpt. Seems like a lot for two unhappy citizens.

130 bc (1) – A rather inauspicious start. I lose 5 GS’s, and 3 more are retreated, razing Knossos. Did I mention it was defended by a vet and 2 regulars? Whatever the case, now we have room for another city.

110 bc (2) – Things go marginally better in Marathon. 1 hop is hilled, I hurt as 2 of 3 GS are retreated.

IT – Elite GS retreated by reg sword.

90 bc (3) – Monguntiacum founded to claim horses.

70 bc (4) – We’re getting slaughtered by these hops. Lose two vet GS to a single hop on a pillaging mission. Start units towards Sparta, though I don’t feel good about it.

A bunch of units come out of the fog towards Rutupiae and Tulusa.

50 bc (5) – Send a larger, healed force towards Marathon.

IT – Lose a foetified elite to an archer in Rutupiae. Also lose a vet to a sword. Another vet holds twice and promotes.

30 bc (6) – I lose two and retreat 1 attacking Marathon, but it finally falls. Finally the rng throws me a bone:

I use him to rush the FP in Monguntiacum, our northernmost city.

Unfortunately, I am spread too thin, and will lose Rutupiae during the IT, so I pay Alex 273g and 2 gpt for Monotheism. Of course, peace treaties are exchanged as well. We’ll be back in 20 turns or so…..

10 bc (7) – Trade Arabia Monotheism, Republic, 68g, and 10 gpt for Feudalism. Turn around and sell it back to Greece (basically useless for them). Greece pays 444g and 23gpt for Feudalism

10 ad (8) – America has Theology and Chivalry, both at monopoly, so they’re not dealing.

30 ad (9) – England now has Chivalry. We also just finished our first harbor, so we have a trade route with them. We could trade them furs and iron for spices and dyes, or we could get knights for furs, iron, and a few hundred gold. I’ll let it sit for the next leader.

50 ad (10) – Our GA ends. :( Augustodorum riots. Glevum built in the jungle to the NE.

Recap: I really took a beating with those hops. I did get the FP built, but it seems like small consolation. I would seriously consider the trades with England. We could build a bunch of horses now and do a mass upgrade to be ready for Greece in 20. Alternatively, the luxes would also make a big difference. Any cities over size 6 are difficult to keep track of right now. There is a settler heading towards the last bit of open land in the NE. My intention was to put him on the coastal hill NE of Glevum. However, there is an English galley just offshore, so we may not be in time.

Did you try sending him a PM?

Press enter. Isca riots. Hey, I would not check that for you, so make sure you do everything right before giving it to me. I've got a riot every turn.

Arabs start Sun Tzu's.

I think you guys are doing too well, so I'm a little mean this time, but I promise I won't gift your FP city again. :)

After all I went through to get the )&^%*(&*%*$* FP?!!?!?!?

Microbe, I'm coming to your house to issue a whoopin. All I know right now is that I think you live in Europe, but I'll find you...:hammer:

@Barb - Yeah, unfortunately, he does get a shot with every leader. What happens if someone pops two?

OK - back to a plan of action then. I would suggest trying to spend the next 20 turns building up a force of MDI/pikes/trebs, and go back at them more on our terms. I would like to exterminate them entirely, but that will be a pain since they have a city or two on that northern island.

Also, when the tech situation warrants it, we could try a little pointy stick down south...

Nope, I live in Forbidden Palace guarded by 6-inch swordmen, so you cannot reach me. :)

This is not that bad. You lost a size 4 city, with nothing but an FP in it. You lost horses also, but you can take it back easily. Plus, GS IS a fast unit so you can keep building them.

Bah. Don't take me too seriously. I actually think it was a rather interesting move.

I have thought all along that your challenge in this game is to make us work for it, but not make it impossible. Of course you could do things to cripple us now, but that would lose the fun of it.

As you said, the loss in and of itself is not that large. What really bugs me is that I left you in the position to nullify my turns in one fell swoop like that.

Guess I'll just have to accomplish more next time, eh? ;)

Internet search is on! Noogies, Wedgies and Indindian burns. I have a crew of people in waiting that for $5999 pesos will take care of that for us.
Beware Apple!

On a side note: I like this variant and it could turn into a bad vs good side game. The human can screw you! Nice job Locomotive!

Thanks...I am trying to put all of the rules that have been scattered throughout this thread all into the first post. I am also posting links from the first page to show what Microbe has done to us. Makes easy for lurking.
