I Can Do Better (somewhat Open SG - Read on)

Best of Luck!

Yes, I had meant to post that I checked it too. Don't know why I was under that impression. :hmm:

Unfortunately, we're not at a point where we can really get Abe to declare on us, so we'll probably have to do the honors.

Yes you do have to declare war to break the gpt deal. Unless it was for some sort of commodity. Then you could just sell your harbors to break the deal. Even if that was the case, which it isn't, disbanding harbors would not be a good idea.

What in the world happened to locomotive? It's almost two weeks since he's been MIA right? I recall he said he was student at UCLA and maybe he got swamped with school work.

Same thing that happens to so many others - I guess this is the Bermuda Triangle of forums.

I find it hard to swallow that he got so swamped at school that he couldn't even check in. Similarly, I doubt PC issues is the excuse as everyone at college has a computer.

The only thing I can figure is a loss of interest.

I will have to agree with you now Sesn. I know this sounds crummy coming from one of the "dropouts", but I really do want to play. I just can't for, well you know why. I have still been lurking. I have the time and interest to play, but what can I do?

Played 5 till now. Rest will follow tomorrow.

PreTurn: Declare war on America and give furs and 7gpt to the Arabs to join in. Check lux deals: we could get 2 luxes from Britain for about the same we pay for entertainment plus furs - no. Switch Alesia to Heroic Epic in 10. Rush a barracks in FP_Monguntiacum. Change some minor builds. We need to get more cities to "knight size" 14 or 18spt. Move elite warrior to the front - we can try at least.

IBT: Sumeria and America sign MA vs Arabia. Kill 2 knights and a longbow. Lose many 3 knights, 2 pikes, 1 settler and 2 workers.

560AD: Kill 3 knights, 1 hoplite, 1 longbow. Lose 1 knight.

IBT: Lose 1 knight.

570AD: Kill 2 longbows, 2 knights, 3 holites. Capture our workers back. Lose 1 gealic, 1 knight.

IBT: Kill 2 knights, 2 longbows. Lose 1 gaelic.

580AD: Noviomagus founded on a hill. We now have silks - lux to 20%. Kill 2 knights. Lose 1 warrior.

IBT: nothing

590AD: Plunderpike has landed. Please load two next time!

IBT: England and America sign MA vs Arabs. America completes Leonardo's. We kill a longbow and a knight. Plunderpike redlines an attacking knight and knight has to withdraw. He stays unwounded.

600AD: Plunderpike is on the horses. Arausio founded on ruins on hills near Mycenae. An elite win gives us Apple Bringer. Athens send us 2 hoplites and a settler, we take the free workers. Also kill 1 longbow, 1 knight.

Sadly I mad the huge mistake of not signing up the Sumerians too

590AD: Plunderpike has landed. Please load two next time!

 - At the time, it was all I could do to find one spare that wouldn't take 20 turns to get there.

Good/bad that we got another leader....

I'm back with my anticipated creative bad-appling.

Who stole two bad-apple turns from me? Was it the guy who claimed to quit civ?

Yup, that was the guy. I think the whole bad apple thing let him feed the addiction without actually playing. :)

Looks like you're back just in time to do some damage. Grs just got a leader, so you'll be up when he posts the save.

Do you still need a replacement? If so, count me in!

Yes, we do, Danz.

Welcome aboard. :)

We'll leave it up to Barbslinger (who has been mysteriously quiet here...) whether we slot you in before or after him.

EDIT: Hopefully, you've read at least the first couple pages of the thread and will spare us explaining the variant(s) to you?

...continued from above

IBT: Plunderpike defeats a longbow taking only 1 damage. Americans land 1 knight in our lands

610AD: Plunderpike fullfills his destiny. Alex has no horses anymore (checked that in diplo).

IBT: The American knight dies, Plunderpike dies too. Greece captures two slaves back. Printing press is known to the Arabs and England (can't check Abe).

620AD: Kill 2 knights, 1 longbow, 1 hoplite and get the 2 slaves back. Durocortorum founded. I do what I should have done 7 turns before  stop this pointless minimum run in middle ages at deity - research set to gunpowder in 10 at -51gpt. Sorry, but this really was a huge mistake, we will have to fight against cavs and muskets sometime soon and do not even know if we have salpeter.

IBT: Kill 1 knight. Incense deal runs out. I trade Iron to Abu for incense and 18gpt. America lands a musket and a MI.

630AD: Kill the American musket and MDI.

IBT: American lands a horse. We lose wines - I renew the deal with Sumeria for furs, silks and our world map. Kill 1 knight. Americans complete Newton's.

640AD: Kill 2 longbows, 1 horse and pillage Greek's last silks.

IBT: Germany and America sign MA vs us and Bismarck - playing a 5CC from the start - declares. So we will take Frankfurt on our isle. Kill a pike. Herorc Epic completed.

650AD: Kill a hoplite and 2 longbows. Our forces are at the gates of Mycenae. Most strategical mountain positions are ours. Alex sends some longbows from Athens every few turns and we slaughter them with our forces in and near Noviomagus. We are strong compared to Alex, who has reconnected his horses though. We should wipe him out from now on without any problems.

I have MM cities for knight production:

Alesia 18spt
Entremont, Lugdunum, Richborough, Augustodorum 14spt
Verulamium, Agedincum 10spt

Please do not peal of settlers of our few big towns. The currupt cities in the north can supply more settlers than we need. I have set some semi-currupt nortern towns to knights although they dearly need courts. Please don't stop knight production too soon, we can switch if we are confident we have enough, but I would dare to do sooner. 4 cities producing a knight every 10 turns still help us. We should be able to take Frankfurt from the Germans with the next 2 or 3 knights from the south. It was never more than size 2 and probably has 2 or 3 spears only. Research is now at 80% - gunpowder in 6 at -62gpt and we still have 654 gold.

Hobe microbe does not screw us up too bad, since Aggie already trashed our rep. with about all countries now (ok, in fact I did by delcaring on Abe...).

Thank you! I've read the first few pages of the thread, and I'll read the rest to acquaint myself with the way things are going. Although who knows what the Bad Apple will do. The whole world could be different next turn :)

All my SG backlog is complete and I'm rearing to go here. Let's see what Microbe has up his sleeve this time.

Nice set grs. Roster is fine with me also. :)

@Danz - I was more referring to the 'bad apple' and ICDB variants than the actual game situation, although it would be good for you to be familiar with that too.

He could shadow my turns after Microbe plays. I have been known to replay turns from the previous players log so that when I play my set I have a better feel for what I am up against when I pick up the save. I hate trying to know what is going on until after the 1st IT of a game. This way when you open up the save you know where things are headed and such though it rarely works out the same from your shadow turns it does help, plus it only takes around 15 minutes since you keep no log and pretty much speed through it.
