I Can Do Better (somewhat Open SG - Read on)

Hard going:

I tried to push the infra at our main ilands and the war against the english.
I also reconnected the cole to go on with our railroads.

1315: Arab DoW us (the bastard english sign a pact against us)

1325: captured York

1335: captured Canterburry

1340: An Amerikan stack landed near Canterburry and the Arabs are not far away. I stopped here to discuss what we can do now. We have defnetly not enough units to stay against his infantry.

The Save

They have not yet declared, but after this turn, i'am shure they do it.
We can sell all buildings from Canterburry, let the americans march in and sign peace. Or we can fight.

Let them declare and we take the WW bonus. Then we slowly push them back.

And please put me on auto-skip until Monday, I have to go out of town...

I see no big problem with them either. Let them declare. They will take Canterbury (do not gift it) and then you will remove them from our isle. You have 2 armies near and some canons too. The bigger problem will be ending the war with them, because we already had some wars with them and our rep is shot.

It is probably time to think about a peace with England. I would skip all those musket builds in our homeland though, we need universities as we will have to research most techs on our own.

Hmm, GRS is right, I didn't think about our rep issues. I normally don't engage in such wild diplomacy as our Apple, so I normally don't have rep issues. But we do.

But perhaps we could wipe out England first, before thinking about a builder phase?

Microbe, we can't - I checked. We can't even buy Music Theory for 350+ gpt. That's what I politely descibed as "rep is shot" :)

Edit: about wiping out England. I don't see us do that soon. We can better kill their small invasion on our homeland, make peace and redeclare later when we are ready to take them out in 10 turns or less. We have to fend off Arabia and the US and we need at least Industrialization, Electricity and Replacable Parts.

Renegotiate Peace with a gpt kicker for Tech. It works every time. I might be able to help you guys pick up the odd turn now and again, but my schedule is royally messed up. I will try and use the concept every now and again of claiming I can do better, or you can tenatively slot me in the roster, but be aware of skips and/or swaps.

Well we could do this somewhat extreme trick. They would sell us Electricity, Industrialization and Economics for our gpt - if we lower it to zero before negotiating. We could even pick up all their cash if we give our dyes too.

I personally rather slot you in and you just tell when you need a skip. Thanks for helping out.

The roster:

Detlef - still up for some turns
romeothemonk - on deck
grs
danz - just played

I'm back from my mini 2-day vacation and I'm ready for some civ!

Do I smell a builder phase coming up?

I will be gone until Sunday evening with a job interview. Sorry for the delay, but you can skip or swap me if I come up.

Well, based on its current rate, I would be surprised if it actually gets updated before then.

When you come back, and if Detlef hasn't posted, I think you should take the previous save.

I never could understand why it's so hard to say "I have no time, please skip me".

I am getting it now. I will play what I can before work today. Going for the techs and gold from America.

IHT: PIck up Music Theory, Economics, industrialization and electricity and a lot of gold using the gpt trick. Get Democracy and gold from Sumeria for Electricity. Americans declare war on us. Strategic retreat time. Slay the english on our continent. There is a lot of mismicro'd stuff in our homeland. Wow. Guys on go to, Core not RR'd while workers are improving the boonies.
IBT: Lose an elite knight to the English, America captures canterbury. We get a palace expansion.
Turn 1: Trying to use our corrupt cities to give us workers. Killed 2 American infantry, a cav and 2 LB's, lost 1 cav and 1 elite knight. Straightening out all the workers probably will not be done on my turns.
IBT: The English borrow a cannon stack for the IBT:
Turn 2: We recapture our cannons close to hastings, right where I want them.
Turn 3: Kill some loose units, rush an Army, as they are the only things giving us any offense right now.
IBT: Babs and arabs ally against us.
Turn 4: Lose a cav knight hybrid army attacking canterbury. Bummer. We will lose york this turn as well as there is a severe unit shortage. We capture Hastings along with Sun Tzu's.
IBT: Once again the Brits borrow our cannons. I think that they will keep them for a few turns this time though. Hmm really bad IBT: America captures hastings, killing a cav army, and york. Really gonna have to work to turn that situation around.
Turn 5: Peace with Arabia, They give Free artisitry and get Electricity. I capture Nottingham, and trade cavs with the americans. Next turn I can rush another army.
I should be able to dig out in the next 5 turns. Our Homeland is a complete mess, but it will improve over the next 30 turns or so.

Ouch, bad luck. Better to retreat armies if the city can't be held. The AI won't attack an army in the hills, but it will happily pound away at an army defending a city. Gotta know when to cut your losses... force preservation is key. We don't really "need" those corrupt English cities. They are just opportunities to either win or lose a war of attrition. So if you can't win, run!
