I hope the collateral damage protection is added to the 1st strikes.

That's what I assumed when I first read it. If the First Strikes are gone, then what good is Protective? Can someone who has the game please shed some light on this?

Marines upgrade to Mech Infrantry

Would they keep their amphibious promotion I wonder. A transport filled with amphibious Mech Inf sounds pretty nice to me.

Thats what I thought too... If not it is not so good news.

But wouldnt these promotions be to overpowered if they give both 1st strike and collateral damage protection?

It could also be from people refreshing regularly aswell.

Refresh? Erm... Why would you want to do that? You would have to be a total civ-junkie.

Mind you, City Raider gives defensive bonuses in cities now, so I don't know. I sooo hope they have kept the First Strikes. The Keshiks definitely still have 1 First Strike, so they still exist. If there are no longer any First Strike promotions, then that would explain why the Chinese are Protective (without risk of overpowering their Cho-Ku-Nu's).

... I don't know about anyone else, but I am starting to feel sick. I hope they haven't made some bad decisions...

Maybe what he mean was that city raider and the other city promotion are 'affected' both by city or fort, so city raider works against units on forts or cities, while city defender gives you bonus while defending both places... Dosent makes sense to see city raider giving defense bonuses.

And guerrilla 3 dosend sounds too hot for me.. a lvl 3 promotion who gives +25% attack against hills? So you get either +40%defense in hills and +25% attacking hills or you get combat 3 and +30% attack and defense everywhere...

what is eb games? i see a lot of talk about it, is it american website or something? Im from UK and ordered it on the 15th July and it still hasnt been dispatched!!

Ahh, that would make sense. Essentially the same relationship with the city, just extended to forts as well... neat :goodjob:

Yeah, I thought it would allow a unit to attack from hills - which would be useful for a longbowmen for instance. Now though, I don't see a use for it. Attacking a unit ON the hills who get a 25% hill defense anyway... Guerilla III seems to just negate the natural hill defense. Strange.

I'm pretty sure EB is a game store, but there isn't one in my area so I don't know much about it.
Vey good question. I live in America and I preorederd it, and it still has not been sent out. Firaxis has serious PROBLEMS!

True, it would be more usefull if it meant bonus to attack FROM hills. Right now, in order to negate the hill defense bonus, you need to unlock two defensive promotions first, which are turned useless if you didnt managed to secure the hilled position in the first place!

And what about forests, fortification bonus, etc...

Castles w/trade routes is pretty sweet. Makes them a decent build now, esp for landlocked cities. (but imagine a coastal city w/a harbor AND a castle ~ nice)

By far, though, the Chariot bonus against axes is F*CKING SWEET!! I've always had a soft spot for chariots ever since they began their nerf from Civ1 :D

and so, when in a fort w/CG or CR promotions, do the def bonuses stack??

What's with the Shale Plant? Apparently it isn't +10% production, it's +10 production. I don't understand that one  Does it mean an actual +10 solid hammers?

Chariots have 50% attack bonus vs. Axes, but have withdrawl chance reduced to 10%
Well done! Chariots will be really usefull now. We'll see them more often, also as defenders in the city to break out to those early Axes! Early unit building may be much more interesting! Clever!

New: Guerilla 3, gives +25% bonus attacking into hills (Nice! Attack those longbows on a hill!)
Think of an army (after Great General emergence) with Gallic Swordsmen, pillaging the hills with their double hill movement form Guerilla II and raiding a city on a hill with Guerilla III...

Drill II gives +20% colatteral damage protection
Drill III gives an extra +20% colatteral damage protection (40% total)
Drill IV gives an extra +20% colatteral damage protection (60% total)
Archers buffed a bit... OK.

Castles give +1 traderoute untuil Economics (nice!)
Clever, very clever!

Well it makes perfect sense that someone with such a strong understanding of hill fortifications (Guerilla II) would also know any weak points in such a fortification and as such can become adept at exploiting them when attacking other hill fortifications (Guerilla III).

eb is short for 'electronic boutique'. used to be a computer game store in the uk too but changed its name to 'Game'

us brits will get our copies on friday hopefully ;)

ps. im seriously unhappy that paratroopers/privateers/beefing up of forts (zone of control anyone) and a whole host of other core game improvements werent included. very disappointing.

i mean only 2 new core game units! pathetic.

/not a scenario player
//goes off to cancel preorder

starting to feel sick?!? honestly??

I guess from one perspective, if players (and AI) get used to settling their cities on hills for the defense advantage, the Celts strategy will directly counter that :) Well, actually it will just neutralise it, not counter it, but close enough.
