I know it's early, but what Civs do you plan on going for your first game?

Of course there is the question whether England will show up as an Exploration era civ. I'm expecting a United Kingdom as a modern era civ, but perhaps not. Though there is the possibility we get Exploration era England and modern era United Kingdom. But I'll probably still go for the Normans because they are new.

Nah, I bet it will be the British Empire, not UK.

First game will probably, definitely be China in whatever form. :)

I cooked an ancient Babylonian dish for dinner tonight
Oh, nice. I cooked Max Miller's tuh'u recipe a few years ago, and it was genuinely delicious. I keep meaning to make it again.

All I know for sure is I will be boycotting the Normans until we get proper Exploration-era French and English civs in the game. Ed Beach's pet civ falls firmly under delenda est and all that jazz as far as I'm concerned.

I will have to play Amina for sure after years hitting that drum, so Axum or another African civilization does seem pretty likely, I suppose.

If there is a 3 era japan/japan like, will likely try the first game as Himiko and go that path. After that, play random for ancient and pick what better fits from what I unlock for the next age for many games. Rather than analyzing every civ bonuses in details from the get go and pick one, I like to get them randomly and then experience the civ and look at its characteristics closely as I play with them.

I think Maya have me the most curious out of the civs revealed thus far. I like to start off with a civ that has science bonuses and given how nice the graphics look, cities with a lot of vegetation maintained within their boundaries seem like they should look gorgeous.

I have no idea what outside antiquity would be a fun follow up though. Shawnee don't look like an ideal step 2 for that game plan...

If the Netherlands are in the game, I'll probably try to include them on my first playthrough. Other than that, I expect to pick based on what traits draw my attention.

As for the leader, I'll probably go with whichever leader I find the most interesting. From the currently revealed leaders, that'd be Amina, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a non-revealed leader that ends up winning out.

When in doubt, Egypt is the answer for me.

Unless a different specific civ positively jumps out at me. But I will have plenty of time to wait because I won't be purchasing the game on release (it's way above my budget).

Of the civs that have been revealed so far Maurya and Maya appeal to me the most gameplay-wise.

If they do something cool with an antiquity era Japanese civ I might have to go with that though.

I'm really curious about the new Diplomatic System, so I believe I'll start with a Civ that is leaning more on this kind of gameplay.
So far, it seems like Greece is the best option in Antiquity for me.
The other eras, we don't know enough.

But, if there's a cool "Brazilian Line" (I've seen people talking about Tupi-Guarani) through the Eras I may change to that.

I've seen people talking about Tupi-Guarani
I wouldn't get my hopes up. That was based on a Natural Wonder quote, which doesn't really mean anything for who or what is included in the game. It would be cool, though.

I’m not leading toward any of the ancient choices yet. They all look good but especially the ones with great people. Then again I’m likely to pick Revolutionary Napoleon to start, because I won first with him in Civ I as a kid. So: Rome-Normans-France looks likely but I might spice it up who knows?

I'm hoping for a Northern European civ I can pick for antiquity, into Normans into Britain/America. Rome and Greece into the Normans ruins the immersion for me. I thought the dissolution of the Roman empire was due to guys like the Normans, so Normans to be a continuation doesn't feel right.

I don't have a problem with Rome into Normans. Normans speak a Romance language and practice Roman law, Roman religion, etc. However, it sounds like the Goths will be your Northern (and everywhere else) European option.
