I live in Japan. How do I buy BtS?

Amazon won't ship it to me, and D2Drive gave me an error message. I'm an American living in Japan, and have the American versions of CivIV and Warlords on my computer.
So...
Any online sites that will ship me or let me directly dl BtS? Seems ludicrous that I can't buy it.

I'm afraid I don't have a solution, but I don't think it's very surprising that Amazon won't ship to you. Games, music and DVDs are much more expensive in Japan than in America and Europe, so the companies probably put a lot of pressure on Amazon not to allow them to be imported. It's certainly unfair that you can't buy it. The only reason is that the media companies want to preserve the insane prices in Japan (and in the UK, to a lesser extent). You may be able to get hold of it through a smaller company than Amazon. Try British and Australian companies too - I think it's correct that those versions of the expansion will work with the American version of the game. My memory's awful though and I've not tried it myself, so don't take my word for it.

Hi, I am an Australian living in Japan and have had exactly the same problem as you! It is ridiculous that we cannot buy from Amazon. Anyway what I did was order the expansion using an online ebay store (just search for BTS and you can find some easily). They sell brand new, unopened copies too, so no worries about piracy or other such matters. I got the US version of Civ4 from a Canadian online store (some stores won't ship outside their country). There are only a few stores that have BTS, but I got mine from a British online store(which are now out of stock). As the previous poster said, most think that the UK version works with the US version, although when mine finally arrives sometime next week, I can confirm this for you.

Ebay is your friend!

I live in Japan and had no problem at all buying the game (on pre-order) from Amazon. Just use amazon.co.jp instead instead of amazon.com, and chose "English" if you feel that the kanji is too hard to read :)

Ebay! Thanks, I'll try that. As for buying it from Amazon Japan, I would, but as much as I love studying Japanese, I'd rather not reach for my kanji dictionary every other turn. I play Civ when I'm done with studying.

Incidently, the European version of BtS allows you to install in Japanese.

No Japanese is required to buy from Amazon Japan. Just click on the English tag, and the user interface changes to English. Even the customer support speaks English well, so you will have no problems.

Edit: I also had no problems with setting the language from the BtS disc installer. Just go with English if you're not up to reading Japanese.

I know that Amazon Japan can be viewed in English, but I'm concerned with whether or not the Japanese version will work with the American version of CivIV running a non-Japanese version of windows. If so (and if you can indeed use English as a language option in the Japanese release) I'll probably just walk down to the store and buy it. If all of that stuff works, of course.

I can confirm that the US and UK versions are cross-compatible. I've got the US vanilla, UK Warlords and BtS, and have had no trouble with any of them.

The BtS sold though the English pages of Amazon Japan is not a Japan-only version, and I had no problem installing it on a non-Japanese Windows running an American version of Civ 4. It worked for me, it should work for you.
