[GS] I want to make a simple visual mod for myself but have no idea where to start

What I want to achieve is simple: I want to change standard/default leaders (animation during interaction, civ entry and icon) to jpgs of my choosing as well as change their names. I'd be happy if someone pointed me in the right direction without diving too deep into the modding territory.
