I like the aspect of religion in the game the whole pulling you together with other civs is great. but um. theres gotta be more.

Diffrent bonuses for religions, or religious buildings. perhaps make the jews Production increase by 20% and finances increase by 10% Hindu and Buddist get culture bonuses. Christianity gets Military bonuses and 5% Finiances, 10% culture. Ect. But also give them negatives. like Christianity 5% corruption or something.

And then introduce Cults. like a city in civil disorder Begins praying to a golden cow, you can either ask your god to strike them down, send in missionaries, or send in special units that dont act the same as missionarys, but instead have them kill a cultist. Hell consider any religion thats not state a cultist religion, put that under theocracy since you cant have other religions spread.

Also, you should have the ability to send in more than one missionary. No more of this if the religion in their city u can see it crap, 50% or more. why? because with 50% good chance ur people pretty much can see everything going on, 10% they'll see 20% of whats going on. u kno what i mean. More missionarys work.

Religion should offer more power, and Free Religion has no benefits at all? WHY free religion? Hell why islam, why christianity, why judism. Wouldnt it be easier to be buddist or hindu since u get those first, thus giving u power of them?

Religion shouldnt just change how the AI feels toward u, it should change their action. For example, there should be some kind of holy city which christians jews and muslims must want. Perhaps a shrine. However, only have it effect christians for a short while, because its clear we gave it up to the jews and muslims to share and the jews kept it lol.

Point is, so religions should compete more certian times in history. Then each religion should be able to found subreligions like Mormanism, Catholism, Baptism, Shii'ets, sunnis, alright idk any others. And there needs to be a diffrent religion. one where its All Religions are tied together, only example i can think of is Andromeda Wayist. This will put you on cautious or higher terms with other countries. Freedom of Religion however should put u on bad terms with everyone without it, simply because your spiting in their faces and saying hey guess what ur forcing ur people to be like u, but guess what their coming here now. nearby nations should HATE you others should just be upset, it should go back to the civ3 view so u can see ur citizens and some of them are of diffrent civs.

Religion was good, but it seems to be underdeveloped. it shoulda been released with Conquests, and then a major update done to it for Civ4.

Alas, there may be one minor hitch to this idea... it may complecate religion to the point where it is no longer fun and it becomes a burden. Some of your ideas sound great, though not likely to be put in for PC reasons. But once you get into sub-religions and cults... that may be too complex... even though the neurotic in me loves it.

Though, perhaps that cult idea could be implemented together with the civil-war ideas that have run around some of the threads in this forum.

I think your ideas are very good, although we probably won't ever see most of them. If they were introduced, there could be an option for "Turn Advanced Religion Off" for those who don't see the point in it. I, personally, quite like the religion idea. Your ideas would make religion much more interesting and further develop games. I particularly like the cult/civil war idea. :) Interesting..

I cant see different bonuses for each religion being used. It states in the manual that all religions are equal so as not to offend anyone, and I'd imagine this is how it will stay.

I like the idea of cults. I'm not sure how it would work, but it is something that could be looked at in the future.

I liked the religion in CIV 4 as it is, but i'd like some spices... i support making all religions equal in the release.. and delegating the changes to Modders.

i like the idea of cults.

i like to see a Religion specific wonder that acts like a supreme authority within a religion (Pope/Vatican).. or may be an election where the followers of certain religio votes (like in UN) for the "POPE" of their religion.. the civ that wins can benefit from charity money, can declare holy war (puts the civilizations that belogs to that religio in war against some heretics).. declare a follower leader heretic (excomunicate him) and that puts the cities with the specified religion into extreme unhappiness... may be the whole civ goes into revolution for some good turns, forcing religious civics into paganism!

I'm sure they would have made the religions different from eachother if it wasn't for the whole PC problem.

They felt they had to make them all absolutely the same to avoid pissing a lot of oversensitive people off, since it's such a sensitive subject.

I think it would be great if they were a little different from eachother, too.

I have another question about religion: You're supposed to be able to monitor all the cities in the world that worship a religion you founded, but does this apply to all the religions you founded or only the one that is your state religion? (assuming you found more than one)

Because when i found several religions i can only view the computer cities that worship the one which is my state religion.

Also, i can never actually ENTER the cities and view what's being built inside.

I am sure the designers knew the moddable nature of the game would allow the gaming community to give religions some individuality. Just as there were never going to be 'terror' type spy missions, one religion was never going to be different (Read 'superior') to another out of the box. Bless the Mod for it is great.

However, for the one that is your state religion, you have access to the line of sight from that city for events going on. Also, if you run your cursor over the flag, you can see the stats on the units in that city as well as things like the % of a particular civ's culture is present there.

To get the city screen you need a spy.

yeah i just realised my ideas on bonus to religions might upset people. so maybe it wont happen.

I did think, that perhaps a spread of a cult in atleast 5 or morelikely 10 cities, and it become a mroe dominant religion, the Cities defect and goto your second leader head. Ofcourse they'll have to be something diffrent for one leader civs. maybe borrow a leader.

And my idea for barbarians and having them be paid to attack. Perhaps barbarians that establish 3 or more cities become SEMI civs and get a leader head of a guy with a beard and end up on a diffrent foriegn advisor menu, like maybe just their tribe names listed under "Barbarians" and u talk to them. Give them Techs, Gold, maps, in exchange for attacks on others and to leave you alone. If the barbarians end up getting 10 or more cities their leader head changes to an unused leader head.

now that would be cool. I hate the whole thing with everyone starting at 4000 bc. yeah four or 5 maybe 6 civs should, but other civs should start random times or from barbarian birth.

I can hardly see how you can say one religion should be given more scientific, cultural etc. points than others, the poltics of such a thing could hurt the game. I do however like the Idea of a holy city!!! :)

Since no two people seem to see the bonuses going to any religion in the same light, I hope I may be pardoned for saying your idea is doomed. :D
