Basicaly here's the scenario: Iraq's Democratic goverenment has a vote, and they demandall US troops withdraw within 30 days.

How should we respond?

It's their country, we respect their wishes.

We recognize that democracy is not yet working in Iraq because they are not voting correctly. We stay until they are voting correctly and then we honor the wishes of the Iraqi people by staying since they voted for us to stay.

Pro-war!

Anyway, their country, their rules. And then when the camel spit hits the fan, we can say "we told you so."

I think you forgot the :satire: tag on that one.

As for me, if they told us to leave, what other choice do we have? They are a sovereign government, not a puppet.

I voted pro-war and get out because I love war but believe we should allow them to handle their own problems. :crazyeye:

America will stay since they are the agressive oppresive Empire and.....

We leave.

Anti-war and if they told us to get out, WE SHOULD get out (Though we should have done this earlyer)!

If they ask us to leave then we haul ass out of there asap. I dont see how any arguement could be made otherwise to be honest, as we are threatening to leave anyway despite them pleading for us to stay.
The argument could be made that our military doesn't take orders from foreigners.

When the host calls time, its good manners to go.

Realpolitic - Its tough now, against the will of the gov it would be vastly more problematic not to mention conter productive.

Anti-War: Do as Iraqis say

Actually our presence is becoming a diplomatic blunder and if the Iraqi government feels bold enough to vote our troops out, then they must feel confident that they can survive on their own, either that or they just plain hate us, but I'll be optimistic and go for the former.

From a moral point of view, sure they should leave. But from a national interest (or even western-hemisphere interest) point of view they have to stay. Iraq has the 3rd largest proven supply of oil in the world and we just can't afford to allow them to remain in chaos. If Iran gets their way in Iraq then China with have de-facto control of much of the world's oil, and the balance of world power could well change.

But suppose the host's neighbor has nuclear capability and will follow the guest home.

Well with given they are ringed by Nato bases it doesnt change the reality on the ground. If anything the less diret land borders we have the easier it is to threaten then with air power while they have less ability to retaliate. At the mo our presence in Iraq gives them the perfect opentunity to have a pop at the US/ UK.
