Team 1: (Team Democracy)
US, England, Israel, Poland, former USSR satellites and others

Team 2: (Team Communism)
Russia, their satellites, Cuba, Venezuela and others (south American nations?)

Team 3: (Team Asians)
China, India, Japan and others

Team 4: (Team Romans)
France, Germany, Italy (merged into Roman Empire ), and other Europeans

Team 4: (Team Islam)
Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia and other Muslim nations

Team 5: (Team Africans)
Zimbawae, South Africans and other African nations

Why did NATO/ the European Union split?

The Islamic Nations wouldn't pose a threat in a 5 way World War, nor would the African Nations. Turkey is a member of NATO

I don't think South America is generally communist, but I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong. Russia isn't communist either.

Infantry # 14, you need a strong dose of neorealist IR. I don't subscribe to it, but it's the best explanation why big wars in general occur (though not any specific war; that's the liberals' and constructivists' gig). Here's some basic resources:

Or, if you want a truly executive summary: States don't fight big wars because they believe certain things. States follow their interests, especially when it comes to big hegemonic wars like any hypothetical WWIII, which means that (for instance) should war break out between the US and Russia, China would side with either the United States (because it poses less of an immediate security threat) or Russia (because of strengthened military ties and strategic considerations in Central Asia) but not fight both. Japan, however, is bound to fight on the side of the United States.

But, in the interests of at least attempting to gain soething serious out of this, the only states really capable of fighting a World War at this stage would be the US, China, and Russia, and the likelihood of such a war being non-nuclear are slim to nil.

When exactly is all of Europe - except Russia, former USSR satellites, and apparently England, but seemingly including Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland - going to be consolidated into this new Roman Empire? How the hell, is Italy, of all countries, going to create a new empire. It's frigging Italy! That's like saying Burma is going to conquer East Asia in just nine years.
