The situation might be totally different to what I've been speculating. Please don't think this is the future, this is just speculations.
I personally think (just like Miss Teen South Carolina said), that the reason of WW3 won't be politics. Neither will the reason be religon, culture, economy or simply power and money. No, IMO, the war will be the first in the world history to have a scientific reason. It starts out with that Obama gets elected as US president and gives fundings on genetic research, since the republicans are oppossers to this new research, they join up specific sates of America (from Nevada via Texas to Florida) and forms 'Christian Republic of Jesusland', lead by Sarah Palin, where now all actions and education are 'under the name of God'. Meanwhile, Obama joins up the rest of states with Canada and form, well, US of Canada. With different visions on science and scientific research , the world is once again split into two alliances, 'Friends of God' and 'Knowledge Axis':

The drop that makes the cup pour over, fell. Formerly neutral Bosnia-Herzegovina was occupated by URKE and EI at the same time and a conflict soon started to occur against them. Their respective allies soon reacted, WW3 has begun.
