If you were drafted...

Its moot for me. Im going on a Mormon Mission when Im 19, so for religious reasons, I cant serve in the military until I get back. I imgaine I'll try to get a student deferment when I get back. if I cant get any deferments, then i guess I have to go, although my knees make my odds of seeing combat pretty slim

It would depend a great deal on how the war started. If the US was doing something similar to what it did in Iraq, I would not go, as that is the sort of conflict best dealt with by our volunteer soldiers. However, if N. Korea had nuked one of its neighbors or was somehow taking over the continent, I would probably agree to go.

Assuming I couldn't get out of being in the military I'd go to Korea. I like the asian girls more than the arab girls... plain and simple.

In agreeing with Chimp, there's also less religious nonsense you have to "respect" while you're there. If someone's holed up somewhere, you smoke them out and shoot them. You can't do that in Iraq.

"Hey, you can't go in that mosque."
"Commander, there's an atomic bomb in there."
"We can't offend the Arab street!" ( *recoils in fear* )

If they instute a draft which includes women (which is all too likely... It's what we get for Women's Rights, I guess), I'd probably be in Canada before I ever actually got drafted. The US has no need for a draft unless someone does something really stupid, so that, I guess, would be my protest. Deny the government my taxes.

One of the moments where I'm glad that I can't be drafted (health issues).

Nah- that'll only keep you out at first. If things get really bad then anyone who can flex their index finger will be A OK to fight.

If I decided to be a frieken wuss and run to Canada, Id feel guilty my entire life.

Yeah but you might be alive.

Why feel guilty about it? If all the lemmings want to go line up and shoot at each other then let them - that's their business. Not my problem quite frankly.

I would only go to war if my country were invaded (literally with landing craft) by a power who completely opposed my own political beliefs ie. a communist or totalitarian regime. Otherwise, I'll be sipping expresso in Vancouver.

send a tactical nuke in my place, I'll guarantee better results and it's not as if we don't have em' lying around.

If drafted, I would serve. I wouldn't pick, figuring the military would better know where it needs my skills than I do. After all, they know what's going on where better than I do.

What would I prefer? I dunno... Iraq is hot and dusty...don't know much about Korea other than there was a killer winter during the Korean War.

Either one would suck.

I don't believe that anyone has a choice of where to serve if drafted; the Army will put him where he's needed, unless you want to go to the special forces(but that requires some tests before). At least, that's the way it's done here.

And here as well. However, Gogf did say I had connections and could make my choice. Knowing both suck, and that I know relatively little about either, I wouldn't care much one way or the other.

Of course, I would probably wish I picked the other, no matter which one I went to. It's just the way I am! ;)

North Korea, at leats in the South they don't want all of us dead. Iraq would just creep me out.

Well, they're not exactly very supportive. They have a nice government, but a lot of their people are encredibally hostile to us.

Oh my..!!

You're the one always spouting pro-war rhetoric, and advocating domination of other other cultures, etc.. and you want a desk job? What kind of double standard is that? ;)

Look at our president.

So the only qualification for using force is to have previous military experience? That means Bob Dole should have been elected in 1996 and George H.W. Bush re-elected in 1992.

You can simply ask and fill the Conscientious objector status procedure, if the search fonction was available i could have link to a previous thread initiated by me.

Duke Of Malbrough have post good links about this legal procedure. ( Can he post them again, please)

In brief, if for a religious, moral or ethic reason, you dont want to kill a human beeing, then you will have a honorable discharge, but i tell you, be sure to follow every step of the procedure, so get information before you are draft.
