[BTS] IMM & Deity lets play collection thread - Henrik

Apologies. on the map I posted earlier, I was looking at the WB save to ensure it was ISO, and ended up somehow making a small section of the map visible, so I can't post that one.

I do have another Vicky Iso map, the AI is also not that bad (no Mansa, no Pacal, No willem, No HC). Don't think the starting position is as good though

I think the first map looked a lot better, would prefer rivers or good food if I'm gonna do deity isolation because I'm no Lain lmao. I've been pretty busy lately and upgrading my computer today so I can finally start streaming. (Current games I uploaded days ago)

I think I have one other map with a stronger starting position, but it was Saladin so not a strong leader. Pretty sure the starting position was much stronger. I'll post the screenshot when on my other computer (on my work laptop at the moment).

Please note I'm not touching these maps in anyway, I don't have the map skills, but if somebody like @AcaMetis downloads and alters it to make your starting position better that may help

Can't wait for you to start live streaming :)

My eyes bleed every turn you are not working capital wet corn... :spank: Note you could've placed a city 1S of  to work the corn and another 1W of dye.

Deity 46 - Zara. (Video coming soon tm)

Starting Location

Map Script and Settings
Spoiler :

Fractal
Arid climate
Medium sea level
6AI & Standard world size

Isolation or no?
Spoiler :
Not Isolated

PS. only played 1 hour of this game so keep spoilers hidden under /spoiler tags.

My approach (read after playing 50+ turns)
Spoiler :
After improving 2 fish I focused heavily on chopping out 2nd and 3rd settlers to fill out flood plains region to the west. Justinian expanded toward us and fast making it difficult but managed to get a nice chunk of the rich land. Due to the arid climate, expect 70% of the land to be crap and 30% to be rich flood plains & gold mines. No interest in building GLH or other wonders as expansion is crucial for this map on deity.

I think so too. Was not very happy with how my cities turned out in classical era, and not working the food hurts for sure. Ah well **** happens.

Hope the headlines recently put out are ok, I do like having them as it adds flavor but less spoilery now.

Watched your first livestream. Committed fan. Your micromanagement >> mine. Comments and questions - - 100% spoilers (for others) obviously.

Spoilers. Other viewers have been warned.

Spoiler :

Nothing wrong with invading someone with "a bunch of 2 movement galleys" against a very weak target. I would have done the whole 6 courthouses, forbidden palace in capital, and move original palace thing. If I could attack someone before astronomy, I would. Astronomy doesn't do anything for you since you already had access to intercontinental trade routes with all other civs.

The jungle is crap. Some barbarian city far away from your capital is crap. Someone else can develop it for you first.

Spoiler :

Early game, The Great Lighthouse, no disagreement from chat.

After The Great Lighthouse, someone commented that you settled an early non-coastal city. I screamed. I would have expanded to 6 coastal cities before anything else. Any coastal city with any food source is good. After that, library in capital and run two scientists. Philosophy if GS, Civil Service if GM.

Someone in chat asked about "specialist economy". My understanding of the specialist economy is farms, mines, and whipping for production. I would have whipped granaries and (cheap) libraries in my cities. Barracks in 2-3 of my cities. Run scientists for whip cycle unhappiness management.

My goal would be something like 8 galleys, 8 catapults, 8 swordsman, land on Paris and the original French peninsula. Those cities will have foreign trade routes. After you finish the original French peninsula, go back and raze all the French cities on your continent. I said raze. I don't want more than 6 cities on the original continent.

Once the French are dead, whip out courthouses in your 6 cities, build the forbidden city, then move your capital to Paris. Your original capital Thebes will be a GP farm.

Hi Henrik - big fan of the videos. The stream wasn't very GMT friendly but I caught the post-mortem over breakfast (a familiar recent experience as an English cricket fan). It looked a tough immortal map.

I got my first deity win on this map so I'm assuming it's at the easier end of the deity spectrum. I think it's a fun map as there seemed to me to be a few viable approaches (elephants obviously being one of them), so more flexible than most deity maps. I'd be curious to see how someone else tackled it if it appeals to you (or anybody else).

Is this the correct file for a save? I've been watching your every game, and sometimes commenting x), this map should be a spicy Isolation map for you to get the practice on Deity.
The land is not too shabby, if you know how to use it, the character is Washington, whom I know you appreciate x)

No changes to the map have been made, I rolled it randomly and found it pretty interesting as well as challenging in lots of different ways. Its a temperate climate fractal no huts no events.

Thank you all for the isolation maps. I Obviously won't upload every single save onto youtube but I have been practising the various scenarios up until astronomy usually, sometimes further if I feel like it, mainly to work on my opener and optimize my worker turns in the early game.

Here I was, ready to submit my creations..... then I saw "no cooked maps." ^_^

This one, back in the day, I remember being it one of the more challenging maps that drew a lot of attention from high level players.

Oh and I am a big fan of your YouTube series. I may not come around the forums much, but I am always tuned into yours and Lain's channel. Even the old videos from Lymond even.

@Henrik75
Would you consider trying some game of "semi-isolation with warmongers" on Immortal? Semi-iso with Shaka or Khan is definitely one of the hardest situations, and might be tougher than isolation. In isolation you may peacefully settle some cities and beeline Optics, but in semi-isolation you might need to chop Archers or Axes instead of chopping libraries, find a balance between research and military, or made a detour to HBR/construction before going to Optics. It'll be interesting to watch, and also a good practice for your challenges to isolation on Deity.

There are several semi-isolation maps available at Immortal, for example:
Spoiler :

NC 215 - semi-isolation with a phycho who has resourceless UUs. Even you capture/pillage all his metal, he'll keep throwing waves and waves of UUs and catapults to you. The unknown AIs are wonder-spamming and trade like crazy.
NC 171 (challenge zip file) - semi-isolation with Impi.
NC 212 - slightly better than the two maps above. Some experienced players said things look nasty from T15, or even from T5.

Some feedback about your videos:
Spoiler :

About your Alex Deity video (Deity 27): very nice game. In the part 3, around 1:38:26, you have many units stand on Qin's oil well. If I were you, I would pillage Qin's oil well. You might think pillaging looks barbaric, but pillaging your enemy's oil may delay or remove your enemy's ability to build tanks, thus it makes your conquest easier.

About your current Joao game:
Spoiler :

Yes, cats can type. Cats can use hot keys and play BTS. Cats can win the games at kitten difficulty level.

I have seen a map of semi isolation where your neighbor gets to meet a 3rd civ while you do not. I guess that means that your neighbor still gets to trade while you are left out. I think it was a map where the two civs get in contact via sea tile border pop and not really accessible to each other until Optics. It was weird and probably extremely rare to encounter it naturally, but it definitely was not a doctored map.
