Do you think you'd be fine if they amended the constitution of America so that non-native citizens could run for president? If so, what limits would you think should be necessary (like having lived in America for 40 years, being born to at least one American parent, etc.)? Or would this all just be plain blasphemy?

Nope not fine with it.

do what you want, but wait 20 or so years with that. spare the world a president schwarzenegger!!!

(no really, i have never understood why a nation footed on immigration would make that restriction...)

Why not? Doesn't mean you have to vote for them!

You haven't had any natives running for president (not that I know of) - all of american presidents have been european descendants, not indians.

Since I was born here I am a native. I am not of the indigenous tribes though.

Yes, having the same limits as everybody else, like being a citizen.

I don't really have a problem with removing the law, if one has been a resident for say, 30 years. We trust immigrants to work as congresspeople, governors, in our military, our intelligence services, our bureaucracy...whats makes the executive branch any different?

I'm totally fine with it if they've lived here a long time, like 30 years as downtown said.

That's a big no from me. It seems convenient but I do believe the checks and balances our founding fathers installed in our government is necessary. Just like how separation of federal power makes our government less efficient, it's there to protect us.

Protect us from what?

If having an immigrant is national security risk, why let them be members of congress, or serve in the military?

Because not all jobs are security risks. Being an immigrant can knock you out of some jobs requiring certain levels of clearance in the military. And I dont particular see that as a bad thing.

I can understand why, but I still think its pretty arbiturary, if somebody moves out of their country when they're very young, or have lived in America for a *looong* time. Honestly, I'd think I feel the same way about Brazil if I was born there, but left after I was one or something (compared to now, when my mom is from there).

Do people really think that Arnold is a security risk? How about Kissinger? Enstien? Think they had acsess to sensitive infomation at their jobs?

If you could be Sec. of state, or national security advisor, what other dirt is there?

No.

@ Aaglo: I am willing to bet several of our presidents have a genetic link to native americans. Hell, anyone whos decendents have been in this nation for well over 125 years or so probably does.

40% of white people in the south claim to be at least 1/8th native. I am inclined to believe those numbers actually :)
