Turn 69 and I've now founded my fourth city and just got writing
Mehmed doesn't have writing so I couldn't get open borders until now. His strongest units are still archers and he only has three cities so I probably could've killed him... but that's in the past now I guess

Made a blunder by founding my fourth city without first having a worker being near there, caused me to have -4GPT for little gain. Would probably be better to settle when Mehmed has a settler closeby at least
Commerce is now becoming a problem with only 6GPT
I'm wondering if it's going to be better to chop/whip the remaining two settlers and a few workers from my cities or to go straight for (creative)libraries
When the libraries are up should I go for alphabet after I get fishing? I heard it's pretty good if your opponents are slow techers
Should I try to get Monty to friendly so I can send him after people other than me? He's usually pretty good at that
And yes, I just realised I should probbaly open borders with Monty and Boudica for trade routes now

In my game, Monty is very small and already mutually hated by Victoria. I would not panic just because it's him but rather consider the actual situation. You could send a scout to find out if he is building up anyway.

Your 4. City seems a bit underwhelming to me. Why dont you secure the stone for some serious failgold or a wonder?
 
Havent you met Joao? He is a strong techer. Also Mehned has gold in the capitol. I would not selftech Alpha, but rather maths in that particular map.

I met Joao and yes, he has all the techs I do
I also realised I couldn't run my trade routes without sailing. Now I know I guess
Boudica has gold but of course I only had wheat to trade and she was like 'nah, Monty's got it now, sorry:thumbsup:'
I think I may have dug my way into a hole, but we'll see

Couple tips :)
You are paying 4gpt for units, but your cap will finish another Axe next turn.
Axes are no explorers, send them back home (they should be at that barb city with Mehmed's stack to eventually steal it, can be razed but gives plunder gold).

You allowed Vicky to settle ~6 tiles from your cap. While jungle has no food until you can work :banana:this area had plenty green rivers, spices and dye.
Not all cities must have food immediately, green rivers pays back fast if other land isn't great.

Your cap could drop copper and run 2 scientists, bulbing Philo later i.e. will always get you out of tech holes on Immortal.
Or if you work copper, build another settler.
With IW there will be 3rd ring gems under AT, justifies a city on it's own. As noted above, not all cities must have food + you really dun want Vicky settling more of your land.

First Axe rush that i would call successful (at least the first i remember, normally not my cup of tea).

Because of too much production in my 2 cities, I could easily flick in 2 granaries and later on even 2 libraries. Didn't hurt too much. I had enough Axes to take Edine first and then Istanbul. After the 2 conquests, 10 axes are still alive.

I was fairly lucky (winning 2 fights at 20% odds + always doing enough damage so that the 2nd attacker could survive + meeting some of his archers in the open :goodjob:)

2 granaries survived the attack and the gold mine is much needed. Happiness is a big problem. Nothing to trade exept marble from Vicky.
No-one has Alpha at 900 BC, wow! Joao is heading for CONST already. That's what I would like to have too! I will get Maths soon and stop chopping for now.

I'm just so scared of the jungles :cry:. I guess it's better to settle the jungles now so they don't get taken later. I've settled quite a few crap cities so far so it won't be too much of a change of pace
Bulbing philosophy sounds good. An academy with awful land or a GS without representation probably aren't amazing
I guess I just get worried about not having towns later on the game so I'm building cottages on plains rivers, but if I can trade for machinery and get engineering I can just borrow them from other civs
 
GS in 9T which means that Istanbul will probably build an Academy. Much better place than my capitol.

Couple of questions here:
1. Should I wait with CONST until I get the Academy? It's 700 BC now, 9T for the scientist and then again maybe 7T for the technology. I don't know how long the time window for a constr-attack can be. Next target probably Vicky who has been dowed by Boudica right now (very nice).

2. I also wonder if I should leave one city to Mehmed and making peace for MC which he got through Oracle? (once i get Alpha....) Is that a good deal or rather take all the cities?

3. Baray is 100:hammers: for 1:food: only! Sounds like an awful deal. Maybe still worth it in those food-poor cities with good production and couple of forests left?

No-one has Alpha at 600BC, what's going on? Feels like an eternity. I am building Barays now everywhere because nothing else to build while I am growing my cities and wait for CONSTR. Captured 4 workers in Mehmed pre-last city :love:

Got alpha (after self teching it partially) from Joao for maths. Then got IW from Monty and mysticism from someone I don't remember
I'm assuming I should go buddism since everyone but Monty has it

What is your long-term plan here? Culture with stone + marble + several religions? Sury is a good character for this, imo, but your neighbors are not, should take care of them before.
Or cannons? You will have iron.

Edit: Mehmed is safe at "pleased", Vicky i don't know.

My land seems too terrible for culture to work
I'm looking to kill Mehmed with trebs and then swivel onto everyone else with cannons and rifles

For a faster overview you can use this one, NoWarProbs 100 at Pls (pleased) are those that cannot.
Some of the more surprising ones are both Celts, Hannibal and Mehmed.

Oh wow, that's really enlightening. Will use the overview sheet during my games, I suppose. The thread is for deeper insights. Thanks a lot!

I think one main aspect to understand is if a leader plots at pleased vs. can be bribed against you. I had in mind that only Catherine can be bribed against you at friendly. Will check this out.

Mehmed is finally gone, Istanbul develops slowly and steadily but my Academy cannot really shine due to only +26 GPT. If I could reseach at 100% I would generate at least 155 beakers, but I got forgein TR very late, Alpha only 3T ago, and my army is medium size.
Next target will be Monty, he is small, he has the Pyramids, he does not like me, he is in a minor religion. Vicky is still in war with Boudica, but I have TR with her, she is in my religion and she settles all the jungle crap which I don't mind at all.

Ankara will get me another GP in the future, due to oracle and forge which was Mehmeds heritage. CoL is far away, I could use some other techs first. Now it's construction time.
