Its time to take Trash to a new level :D

I've been playing civ a bit and I'm fairly comfortable on Monarch but regard moving up to Emperor with a degree of trepidation. Does this sound familiar? This could be the game for you! :goodjob:

Ok. So I'm an imperial trash player! Looking for like-minded emperor noobs to embarass ourselves and provide amusement ( ) to the Immortal Emperors on the forum.

The proposal is that we start from a common save, spend a few days playing a reasonable length turn set (starting at say 50 turns and getting shorter as the game progresses).
We post our saves, admire each other games and be suitably self-deprecating about our own (shucks, I guess I was lucky getting BW from the only hut I found etc).
Then after a day or so of this we nominate the best save of the round. At this point we can either play from the best save or if we're suitably vainglorious carry on with our own game (but only our own game or the 'best' to minimise anarchy).

And so on until our greusome demise or altogether improbable victory.

I reckon 6 players would be about right, 4 would be managable, 8 would be managable just about, if more than 8 people are interested then it might be worth running two seperate games.

I've sounded out a few people by pm. Let's see if they meant what they said or if they were just being polite.

Probably go for standard worldsize. Normal or epic speed. Haven't got as far as leader/civ, map type. Any thoughts would be welcome.

If any current emperor+ players wish to detach themselves from their Olympian heights to plunge into the miasma you'd be more than welcome :) .

Checking in and ready to hog some glory!

(Having your steaming backside handed to you on a silver platter is glorious, right?)

Lurking this one too.

Trying to learn from other's mistakes on a level above before winning myself regularly on Monarch

Good luck guys!
I admire your bravery and look forward to your, though improbable, success!

I'd really like to join this one! Sounds right up my street! :)

I'm a comfortable monarch player, but not won an emperor game yet... Had a few start OK, but needing more of that Blake quote:

"In my opinion nearly all losses are caused by insufficient stubbornness."

Edit: On leaders and map types:

Possibly random and play with what the RNG gods provide?

Or - think spiritual would be nice - saves will be swapped about, so it'd allow players to painlessly adjust civics to suit their own style? To balance that (arguably) weaker trait, should pick something suitably powerful to balance it - Financial for example... So I'd propose Mali - with added Archer 'o Doom bonus? Aoska might also be nice?

Map type - I like 'em all.

lurker's comment: Another trash game.... Hm... And pigswill forgot to didn't call me.. Hm... :trouble:

Well, I have enough on my hands right now and got to pass this one. :mischief: Besides, I'm not comfortable enough with Monarch to adventure myself on Emperor yet.

I assume this is BtS. Should we wait for the 3.13 patch? I've now played a few games on monarch and it just seems so... frickin' easy. I mean, never before have I been 7-8 techs ahead of all AI's in 1000 AD.

3.13 with aggressive AI on should ensure that moving to emperor is a challenge.

I would like to join this one.

Time is somewhat limited for me and we'd have to play every turn, so I would like to suggest a fairly relaxed schedule.
We could do a weekly cycle. Play from Friday to Monday, discuss Tuesday/Wednesday, vote before Thursday. Rinse and repeat.

I'm going to have to lurk I'm afraid - might be PC-less for another month or so :(

If this is BtS, I think Stuge has this right.
I'm in, ready to be ridiculous.

I'd be glad to play a BtS only leader.
So far I played and won with ethiopia only, losing shamefully at emperor level with boudica.
That leaves a lot of options of leaders I've yet to play.
edit :
wow, we're already 7 if I count right!

Darius -moneybag traits+immortals. Too good to be true.

I'd like to play Pericles.

I wonder if 50 turns initially is enough to make a start with enough distinction. You can spend 25 turns waiting for a worker and BW.
In 50 turns you have:
-settled in place or not
-explored
-built a few warriors
-built a worker
-started a settler
-discovered a few techs

How about we do a big first turnset, say 100 turns? Then the comparison can be more interesting. We can compare who rushed the neighbour, who built the most cities, who has the most population, who invested the most beakers, etc.

To ease comparison, I think it's good to have a standard game summary to compare games. This is to avoid having to go through each game to get details. Each person puts it in their report. I'll make a draft:

Game summary (draft)
Total population:
Number of cities:
Wonders built:
Units:
Income:
Expenses:
Techs discovered:
Civics:
Diplomatic status (OB, War, etc):
Religion:

What's missing?

current gambles (like being 2 turns from the pyramids), incoming GP, used GPs (yes it matters! the first GS is cheap, the next ones aren't)

Greetings posters.

Players to date:
stuge
Ozbenno
TriviAl
50 Dollar Bag
remconius
cabert
Cam_H

Cam_H is included even though he hasn't posted. We've been in touch by pm: Cam_H will miss the first round and may miss others but he's one of the original Trash players so he's in.

I like remconius' suggestion of 4 days to play (Fri-Mon) when most people have most time, 2 days to discuss (Tues-Weds when people should be working ;)) , Thursday is polling day, votes not in by Thursday midnight (gmt) will be disregarded unless there's a tie.

Version: BtS (unless there's a strong demand for warlords). I'm not going to get into the 3.13 patch debate. If its available when we start we'll use it otherwise we'll discuss including it at the end of a round once its released.

Map wise I'm thinking going very standard; standard size, continents, temperate, normal sea level, normal barbs, all default settings, all victories enabled.

Leader wise is where it gets more interesting. I have no strong preference. There's an argument for financial as a crutch when starting a new level, there's an argument for spiritual in case we don't like someone's civics choices at the start of a round. No doubts there will be arguments for every other trait in any combination.

[Lurker's comment] Take financial/spiritual ;) Who do you have than ? One of the best tech-whore in the game, Mansa the Greatest
