It's not that much. "Much of West Africa" is really not much at all and mostly desert (really, the only "significant" town in the region is Timbuctu). And I don't even get the whole of Mexico. "A few more islands" are just Puerto Rico which will be our naval base en route to Mexico, and the tiny Bahamas.
