African League Begins Peacekeeping Effort in Vietnam

Warning: Large image

CASABLANCA – The African League disclosed their plan for their position in the UNVIFOR force on October 21. Emirati diplomats recently struck a deal with Laotian officials to allow the African League to begin preparing their forces in Laos, Emirati officials have stated through a press conference that the joint military force will be moving out into Vietnam by mid-winter.

The original plan for the African League was to use The People’s Republic of Sìchuān as their staging grounds but that plan seems to have fallen through. An Emirati senator, who asked to remain anonymous, stated that the Emir abandoned the Sìchuān route after not receiving a response from the new nation. Whatever the reason, cooperation from the Laotian government has gone a long way in establishing friendly relations with the United Emirates and a trade treaty between the two countries is currently in the works.

The joint operations of the African League will be spearheaded by the United Emirates and the Republic of New Rhodesia who will be providing troops for front-line combat with the Vietnamese warlords and for securing the areas that have been pacified. The United Kingdom of God will be providing non-combat personal and support to the operations which are expected to follow in after an area has been secured. The African league will be pacifying northern Vietnam, specifically military zones A and B. Control of the operations will start off with the Emirati forces but as the forces near the JCZ it will be handed off to the Rhodesians in order to avoid any possible confrontations; still the joint forces are adopting a cautionary policy towards the Japanese and are prepared to fight should they be fired upon first.

But with the first test of the African League comes doubt and criticism. Protests in Casablanca have started outside of the United Kingdom of God’s embassy; the protesters demanded that the government denounce the UKG for not participating on the same level as the UE and Rhodesia who were risking their own sons for this operation. Outside of the Parliamentary building reporters questioned Grand Vizier Nasser Kalib, while he declined many of their questions he did leave them with one quote “There is no doubt that our time in Vietnam will test our young alliance, I can only hope that these fires of war will forge a bond that will become unbreakable.”

Another Charter Fails, but Interim Rules Set to Expand
Spoiler :
7_session_unpfii.jpg

UN HQ – The new Texarkan proposal for a charter for the UN has failed to pass, notably with a larger margin than the original Emirati proposal although lack of interest by other countries was mostly to blame for that. The Texarkan proposal was a edited version of the original Emirati proposal that aimed to clarify parts of the Charter, but the most notable change was the most controversial: allowing the UN to own land outside of Antarctica.

An original proponent of the Emirati Charter, the Women’s Republic of France decided to vote against the Charter. The United Emirates was also originally cold to the revised version, but after Texarkana implemented some changes to the owning lands section they eventually decided to support the new Charter. However, this was not enough as most members of the UN decided to ignore the Proposed Charter with nearly 18 members abstaining.

Seeing as the only part of the Charter that members could not agree on was the UN limits and the Amendment Voting rules, the United Emirates proposed that the Interim Rules that had been governing the UN since be modified to add the parts of the Charter that every country could agree on. In a press release Emirati representative Malik Al-Derei commented on the current state of the Interim Rules. “The Interim Rules were supposed to have served as a transitional guideline for the UN and a charter was meant to have been quickly adopted. However, two proposals later and we are still getting nowhere! Furthermore the UN is starting to play a much larger role in the world today with peacekeeping forces operating in Vietnam. We need to establish a charter that will better enable the UN to handle situations such as that, but until then we should not be throwing out all of the Charter just because we cannot agree on a few parts.”

The Expanded Interim Rules was proposed to great success and is set to be the first unanimous resolution in the UN with eleven countries giving their support to it.

Republic of Laos Signs Treaty with United Emirates

Spoiler :
china-politics.jpg

VIENTAINE – It seems that military access treaties were not the only things being discussed by Laotian and Emirati diplomats in their first meeting in October. The new Economic Development Treaty which is set signed in early November is a sign of the growing friendship between the two countries.

The treaty is meant to take advantage of both Laotian and Emirati assets to help in the economic growth of both countries. Emirati businesses have been given permission to open up manufacturing plants in Laos that will create many new jobs in the nation, with the condition being that Laotians be trained as managers for these plants to avoid just creating low paying jobs in Laos. In return the companies get an access to a cheap labor force and new markets for their goods.

The expected results of this treaty are that many of the consumer goods in the United Emirates will experience a price drop while companies will be able to make a better profit. Meanwhile in Laos many new jobs will be created and investments from Emirati merchants will help get their new economy off the ground as well as provide them with experienced workers and managers. This treaty comes at an opportune time for the burgeoning Emirati middle class as lower prices on many consumer goods will encourage spending and benefit the economy.

However the treaty is not without its critics, many blue collar factory workers have started protesting outside of the Senate building saying that their livelihoods were being threatened by the outsourcing of jobs to poor Laotian workers who would be willing to work for far lower wages than what were legal in the United Emirates. As the protesters began to obstruct traffic and occupy nearby buildings riot police were sent in to confront the protesters. After a four hour face off in which the protesters slowly gave ground to the advance of the riot police with tear gas and water cannons an agreement was struck, the protesters would be allowed to occupy the Harun Memorial Park near the Senate building in exchange for ending their illegal occupation of several buildings and blockades of roads.

Investigation and Punishment for Alleged Japanese Attacks against Peacekeepers

Spoiler :
RIAN_archive_828797_Mikhail_Gorbachev_addressing_UN_General_Assembly_session.jpg

UN HQ – As more evidence stacks up against the Japanese in the UN an increasing amount of nations are backing a resolution to suspend Japanese membership in the UN. Suspension of membership while not outlined in the Interim rules is a popular section of the Proposed UN Charters and is being implemented through the loophole of there being nothing against it in the Interim Rules. When the Austrian representative asked for proof of the Japan’s wrong doings the United Emirates sent information and later Texarkana laid out all of the information it had received, all of which pointed at Japan as being the main culprit and disproving their claim of bad weather being the cause of the lost ships.

However, at Japan’s insistence of a Investigation team being sent to gather information before they were convicted a new UN resolution was proposed to do so. However in this resolution, proposed by Texarkana, Platonic and Texarkana representatives nearly came to blows about who would be making up the investigation team. The Platonic’s main complaint was that some nations were being sidelined for no given reason and that Texarkana was being hostile in their responses. However the argument has since died down after both representatives took a break to calm down.

More Algerian Emirates Join the United Emirates
Spoiler :

CASABLANCA – As Emirati influence grows across the globe it does so at a more local level. Some Algerian Emirs have sought protection in the United Emirates and have signed an annexation treaty.

OOC: Claims in the More Algerian Emirates Join article, two claims were used to pacify two regions as per the guidlines in the UNVIFOR thread.

"What on earth is that?" Ambassador Hanne Voigts said as her assistant Hector walked into her office with an impressive stack of papers.

"Temporary citizenship forms," the blonde-haired man replied, dropping the pile in front of her. "All from today. Counted at least a hundred, and there's still a line out there."

Voigts flipped through the papers, a disbelieving expression on her face. "This is insane. We barely get that much in a week..."

"Thank the Irish," Hector sighed. "Ever since they aired that interview with Monteclaire, all the males from here to the Rhine have been collectively soiling their sous-vêtements, pardon my French."

Voigts rolled her eyes. Hector was a decent helper, but a stand-up comedian he was not. Turning to the stack, she divided it into three separate piles.

"Take these and divide them among the other secretaries," she ordered, handing over two of the three stacks. "They only need to be approved. Make sure they use both stamps."

"Oh, that's much easier. Why don't you do that more often? We could get out earlier!" Hector said eagerly.

"Because technically it's against the rules," she said bluntly, causing Hector's smile to fade away. "Officially speaking, I need to give all of these forms a good scrutiny before I approve them. I don't like breaking rules, but I don't like diplomatic incidents, which is what we'll get if those men aren't cleared out of here."

"You could just call the police..."

"I don't care much for the French either, and I don't want to give them the satisfaction of castrating a hundred more men. Now if you're done telling me how to do my job, kindly disperse those papers before you have to buy your own plane ticket home. "

Hector left in the blink of an eye. Sighing, she took out a pair of inkpads and stamps and went to work, stamping the red Austrian eagle and dwarfing it with the big black Holy Roman Empire eagle. She felt herself nodding off, so she turned on the television in the office to the news channel, hoping to catch the weather report.

"...and the smoke is still obscuring the view from here, but we've received word that the police and medical services are on the way. No word on the royal family yet, but..."

Voigts looked up, the stamp falling to the ground with a dull thud. Instead of a colored map of Western Europe, the image on the screen was the royal palace in Vienna. It was on fire. She swore under her breath just as the smart phone on the desk vibrated. She answered it immediately.

"There's been an attack, shut down the embassy, Code 14," said an unknown male voice before the caller hung up. Voigts felt her fingers go numb. An attack on the imperial palace was bad enough, but if she had to enact Code 14...

She leapt to her feet, overturning the small stack she had been working with onto the floor, and dashed out of her office. She quickly found Hector, who was chatting up one of the secretaries at the coffee machine.

"Miss Voigts, what's..."

"There's been an attack," she interrupted, causing the secretary to drop her coffee on the nice carpet. "Something's happening at the royal palace. I need this place closed, all critical documents stored away, and every male on staff to be on the next flight back to Austria. Schnell!"

Both of them ran off. Within minutes, dozens of confused Frenchmen were pushed out the door, along with the handful of male staff members rushing for the airports. Secretaries ran around resorting files and locking reams of paper in iron vaults. As chaos erupted around her, Voigts returned to her office to wait for more news on the attack. Everyone was scared and confused, but the only thing she could do was wait. Wait for more bad news. Wait for more scary moments. Waiting for a good word to come from back home so she could reassure the others that everything would be okay.

It wouldn't come. Not tonight.

OOC: When do orders lock?

Roman Empire starts Colonial ideas

Andreas Laskaris, realizing that they are essentially locked out of all mainland regions except bulgaria, will revisit the idea of Roman colonies. it was considered as early as when the Empire was reformed, but felt that the idea of Roman colonies would piss off too many people, but now, it is a necessity.

the Roman Empire doesn't have more than vague clue as to where to expand, but does note that the colonies will be given limited Home Rule, and all the rules and regulations necessary for the natives, whoever they may be, to feel right at home.

Negotiation with the countries near the colonies planned locations will start as soon as we finish with Bulgaria.

Dude, plot spoilers!!

real smart. piss off the Austrians. that always ends so well.

the Roman Empire harshly condemns Ireland for the bombing of Vienna.
Wait, what? I was kidding when I said I caused the bombing, because Kaiser referenced the debacle between me and Omega at the beginning of their post.

hmph. i cant tell a sarcastic (?) joke online.

I'm gonna claim stuff and post info tomorrow.

@Rome OOC: I see. It's seems serious when you bold it, unless you make it really obvious. But maybe that's just me.

@France OOC: Well, that's a lesson hard-learned. My sincere apologies.

IC: We apologize for any damages caused by the interview. The Dáil Éireann has passed a bill offering compensation for any damages caused in major French cities by protests triggered by the interview. We have brought this "Doctor" in for questioning. His name given in the interview is indeed the name he used when applying for temporary residency, but that is the extent of our knowledge.

OOC: forgive me but what was the French-Irish thing about? I was too late to see the Irish article.

IC: the Platonic Republic would like a copy of this interview so we can archive for academic purposes.

OOC: how is my political strength measured? I must, like Patchy, relate to the formation of my trade league and the attempts at the Olympics to ask on how political strength is measured?

Political Strength is like a measure of world respect and the stability of your nation. So in a real world scenario nations like the UK, France and such would have high scores in this whereas Somalia and North Korea would be lower.

OOC: Must resist the urge to reply....... [pissed]:p

Christos is my favorite Greek

Moderator Action: Less OOC and more respecting/being nice to each other please.

Thanks. And all heed the mod please. I don't want this to turn ugly.
I'm away for 1 night and several pages of arguing happens...

Orders Lock pretty much now, but I'll accept all late orders.

FFFUUUUowait it's loose lock. I still got summut to draft for ya. :p

Jerusalem opens door to Suez aid

After months of internal preplanning, the United Arab Republic has begun negotiating formal contracts with foreign investors to help refurbish the Suez Canal. While the International Fair Trade League first began organizing a reconstruction effort for Suez and Panama last fall, bureaucratic red tape harangued its implementation in Egypt and only the United Emirates received official government sanction. Jerusalem has now announced that it has a "strong" strategy to guide the reconstruction, and is contacting parties from Rome, Greece and Indo-Persia that expressed earlier interest. Due to diplomatic tensions over the UN peacekeeping mission in Vietnam, Jerusalem has declined Japanese involvement in the project.

The Republic has also announced it intends to invest in the Panama Canal Zone Company to aid Texark reconstruction efforts.

OOC: I don't think "offended" is the right word. Nothing he said was ever offensive towards me on a personal level. Simply put, the main issue was over how he portrayed my society without once really even asking what my society was even like, nor asking if it was okay to make such heavy-handed changes. That was the real issue I had.

Now, I think this is the last time I'm going to comment on this subject. I really just want to move on.

EDIT: Pretty sure mods or at least admins can read all versions of edited posts. I at least know mods can do that on other vBulletin-based forums. If you really want a copy, I would PM one of them and request for it.

The Platonic Republic has to bring the world attention to a crisis; the world is declining in the amount of oil it has. We of MECTU have been talking and it has come clear that we need to look for alterative materials. We of the Platonic Republic (thanks to Libya) are especially keen to use the oil we have left for plastics, especially for special equipment.

We hence see a future in atomic power plants as a means of generating energy as well as green power. Hence the green industries and nuclear industries are going to have a increase in importance, with the latter having potentials for shipping.

We of the Platonic Republic are hence eager to sell plastics. Fear not: even before now we do not use slavery for plastic production (the plastic industry is a good job area for the Productive Caste) and anyway we are currently debating on whether to... "lessen or remove" our slavery laws, even if we are currently basically have it currently being more hard lined convict leasing.

Special offer for those who do energy deals with us! Greece can always do with more solar panels!
