Umm... where is the basis for the USCA being a "populist national socialism" as opposed to a rightist fascism? I wasn't aware we could switch our ideology from its preset without repercussions/explanations. Isn't whatever EQ said it was at the beginning, not what you define it? I based all that diplo on the assumption that the USCA was Rightist Fascist.
EDIT: Missed your story, thus these complications. Although it would appear that EQ did as well, as there is no mention in the update and one would think there would be something with such a seemingly radical shift, at least some change in the stats.

What you say is true, through you ignore several factors. You forget that Europe is an ocean away- it would cost your nation much more to mount an offensive here than it would us. You forget the fierocity that we have shown when fighting for independence. Spain too was part of Europe and did it not fail in its goal of subdueing the continent? We must give a general warning that should England refuse to return all that was wrongly robbed from us, we will be forced to join the USCA's side on this issue. If such an action is taken, then we will not enter.

After the death of Karl I in 1922, his nephew Karl II took over the throne. He cared very much about three things in life : Money, women, and the empire. The Astro-Hungarian empire meant a lot to him but the subjects didn't, which would prove to be his undoing. His love of money got him to raise taxes. By the time he was through, he had more money than he ever would be able to spend, and still raised taxes. Income tax - 14%, Inheritance tax - 20%, Sales tax - 18%, Alcohol Tax - 25%, Luxury tax 50%, and more. He had 5,000,000,000 Krona by the end of it all from taxes alone, not including salaries, gifts, or inheritance. However, the people were unhappy. The only people that were happy were himself and the women he spent it on. Even then, he had decided that there was not a woman in the Empire he could not have, married or not. Sometimes he actually ordered married women to serve him, just because he could.
Over time, there were more and more riots. He stopped objectifying married women, and lowered the luxury tax to 40.5%. That quelled some of the revolts and riots. However, the city of Sarajevo was to be his doom. In Sarajevo, a rogue Armenian shot at him, and missed. He ordered the nation to declare war on Armenia, but they were part of the Ottoman Empire. His Chief of the Army informed him of this, and he told him to go along with the war on Turkey. At that moment the army stopped listening to him. They seized the city of Budapest, and made it their temporary capital. They captured Sarajevo, Zagreb, and Belgrade, while Vienna, Graz, Innsbruck, and Pécs remained loyal to Karl II.
The Navy joined in against Karl. They stopped all shipping in the Adriatic, and destroyed a boat of weapons from an unknown ally of the king. The soldiers and civilians started a campaign of riots and attacks on the remaining cities. They conquered all of Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Macedonia, Albania, and part of Hungary, while Lichteshtein, Austria, and part of Hungary were monarchist. Soon, the army had conquered Pécs and the rest of Hungary. Austria declared a split from the empire, and the Hungarian empire declared war on the rogue state of Austria. All soldiers had sworn an oath to the Empire, not Austria, so the remaining loyal troops slowly began to desert. King Karl II attempted to negotiate a peace treaty, but it failed. Vienna fell, and he fled to Lichtenshtein, where he was fatally gunned down by a supporter of the revolution.
After his death, King Franz took the throne. He was told by the army that massive reforms were coming to the recently re-established Astro-Hungarian Empire, from its capital of Vienna. It would be a monarchy, neither constitutional nor absolute. It was a limited monarchy, where he had power as leader in a democratic society. The king would be head of state, in a parliament of 156 seats plus his own. Majority would rule, but he could never be voted out of office, and he has limited veto power.

How come his eco wasnt hurt at all by this? We shut down his trade, took his merchant boats and a large part of his territory as well as we destroyed his ports! I think a drop of at least 2 eco/turn should be the least.
