The end of Austria-Hungary
The Astro-Hungarian Empire is being renamed the Empire of Austria, Hungary, and Yugoslavia. This is because of the nationalist uprising in Adriatic region of the empire. The empire is also being subdivided into regional provinces. They have their own legislature, and then the full national legislature is above them. The new provinces are Austria, Hungary, Bohemia & Moravia (Czechoslovakia), Serbia (Serbia, Montenegro, & Slovenia), Rumania, Poland, Croatia, Bosnia, and Bulgaria. There are also the territories of Macedonia and Albania that have less independance, but still have a form of self government. King Charles has declared that each province and territory has specific things they are responsible for, and everything else is the responsibility of the national legislature. The provincial responsibilities include health care, roads and highways, education, and housing. One thing that is forbidden of each territory is seceding. Every head of province must give an oath saying that they cannot secede from the empire, and all provinces wishing to have any self rule must give up the right to secede.
"We hope to avoid what has happened in the United States, with one nation being split up into 5. We also wish to avoid that which has happened in Russia, with Finland rising up every time that they can."
After telling 6 people of 6 different cultures, some of them protesters, about these reforms, we got them to give us their opinion.

I am very happy that Serbia will be a semi-independant province, especially because Belgrade will be the capital for three nationalities. We have Slovenes, Serbs, and Montenegrans all looking to Belgrade as their home, as well as Vienna. I still wish Serbia were an independant nation, but this is second best.

These reforms anger me more than not doing anything would have! I want the best for Slovenia, and that is to be a country, not some province. We're not even a province! We're a part of SERBIA! We have to look up to Belgrade instead of Ljubljiana.

Romania is a province now? Since when? I don't like it! I want to be on my own. I want to be a Rumanian from Romania, not a Rumanian from the Romanian province of the Empire of Austria, Hungary, and Yugoslavia. I want to sing the national anthem, and speak Romanian, and criticize the government of Romania. That would be a dream come true.

These reforms are the best thing for Poland. We cannot become an independant nation, as Russia and Germany would not let their parts go at the same time as Austria, if ever. There is no way we would have Poland from Slupsk in the north to Zakopane in the south, and Brest in the east to Szczecin in the west. We would always be a nation divided, so now we can be a province with a strong army defending us, but still being able to make our own decisions.

Croatia shall be free! We shall not give up until the day that Croatia is an independant country. Austria Hungary can add a word to their name, but it means nothing. All that means something is Croatia. At least we have some power in Zagreb, but every month Zagreb shall be stronger until we finally break off completely!

As a proud citizen of the Astro-Hungarian empire, I am disgusted that people should do such a revolution that the Empire must change its name just to accomidate them! I can't dream of my Hungarians ever doing such a thing!
