In Which we Discuss Avatars and Custom User Titles V

Download GIMP. Paste the picture you want to make transparent into GIMP. Click the magic wand. Click the background. Click delete. Save as a .png or .gif (if you're using it as an avatar, use .gif, it takes up much less space).

Alternatively, employ Paint.NET, which has a much better UI.

Thanks guys! I used Paint.NET since I vowed to never use GIMP ever again (the layers are all screwed up).

Is this any better?

EDIT: Damn, it didn't work...

I deleted the background but now it shows as white instead of transparent.

I can do it if you want.

Well, I want to learn how to do it so I can, you know, do it in the future.

How did you do it?

Do I have to do something else besides deleting the background or what?

I have to click "Transparency" when trying to save it to make it keep the transparency.

Are you using GIMP or Paint.NET?

Photoshop you need to create layers and stuff.

Use GIMP or Paint.NET.

I can't help if you aren't using GIMP, sorry.

It's kind of a weird pic, to be honest.

Well, in Gimp, just open your image.

Go to "Layers" --> "Transparency" --> "Add Alpha Channel"

Now in your layers, you should see a new one. You can now erase and instead of erasing it to white, it is transparent.

Look for something similar in Paint.net ?

Thanks, I'll just use yours for now, and I'll fiddle around with the layers in Paint.net (as PeteAtoms suggested) to see if I can get it to work that way.

My avatar, custom user title, signature, and location are now Strawberry Fields Forever themed. Also, if you have yet to click the link in my sig, you are a dirty, no-good, rotten communist Islamic terriorist facist NAZI who hates America and eats puppies. Not that there's anything wrong with that...
