Why is Incest banned?

~Because a higher chance of genetic defects being displayed in the child.?

So why are (genetically caused) disabled people allowed to have children?

~Answers please!

~Should someone who has a disability, and know they will pass it onto their child be banned from bringing that child into the world?
~Should anyone be able to tell anyone else what they can and cannot do?
~Should China?

The ban has (obviusly) something to do with values. Most people consider incest to be wrong. Also I really don't think seriously disabled people reproduce, not in significant numbers anyway. And then there is the question of eugenetics: if disabled people aren't allowed to breed, where to we draw the line?

I think incest is illegal mostly because nearly all cases of incest is abuse. Although you could argue that's a redundant law, but I digress. I'm sure there have been cases of brother and sister doing it, but even that could be abuse as the older one has more influence on the younger one. And even as adults, there is a matter of influence.

Long story short, it's icky.

I haven't taken a stance on this yet, but I'd like to point out that incest and the procreation of disabled people isn't necessarily the same: disabled people can't help it whereas abled people can (by not having a child with that person).

First question: Yes they should be allowed.

Second Question: No. We should allow murder. Seriously, this is a non-question. I think you worded this question wrong because the answer is a clear yes.

If you wanted to make me go through my arguments again, couldn't you do it with a better starting post?

And couldn't you constibute something worthwhile to the discussion of incest in the other thread before starting this copy?

And, third, couldn't you have just waited for the mods to cut the OP section out of the other thread (if it sufficiently evolved)?

Its not all about you..

I'm thinking you forgot the word "not" there. But anyway...deciding not to have a child by abstinence is murder?

Anyway, both should be discouraged but not by means of force. It's really selfish and bad to society to force a future person to suffer disability for your desire to have a child.

Doesn't everyone try and influence those around them? Our style of clothing, our accent? All of these and a million more will effect those we interact with. I don't think "influencing" someone is such a crime?

No I meant we should allow murder (I was being sarcastic.)

No, I never said deciding not too was murder  and that was not my point.

Then what was your point? :p

Oh wow, sorry about that. Reading comprehension module wasn't at optimal efficiency.

I need a stimulant...

Yes, edited that in..

It is really really icky and immoral. IIRC women in their 40s are roughly as likely to cause genetic deformities. It being so appallingly disgusting and immoral is what is keeping it illegal just like bestiality and what used to be keeping homosexuality illegal. Never fear, if we make incest legal it will over time become acceptable and they will set up their own action groups and it will become a hate crime to oppose it.

define disabled

see above

Yeah, it s called the law, for example will tell people they shouldn't kill other people...

WTH?

inbreeding and breeding of "disabled" people has nothing to do with one another.....

i suspect that inbreeding is such a taboo becasue of a combination of observable negative consequences, which have valid scientific reasons and morality...these seem to me,. interrelated.....

even in ancient societies, it must have been pretty obvious that after a couple of cycles of inbreeding "something was seriously wrong"......couple this with religious arguments as to why, and there is a good basis for the taboo...
