Incredible Deity Start

DMOC, i forgot to edit the minimap in my world builder example...please edit your own post so it does not reveal anything. Though it isn't anything he won't discover in 10 turns on his own.

I probably don't have time to play this game very long in any case so don't worry. I was just running some starting gambits to get a feel for the relative speed of AI development on deity and wanted to share an awesome start.

CivCorpse: Your example is a good illustration to why food really lets you do anything you want with a city and consequently why it's the most important.

super mega capital for any purpose
all in one commerce+GP farm, or production+GP farm or whatever :)

the only drawback is the health problem, especially in deity
but the city is still phenomenal :)

those 2 GAs are for originally culture bombs at other cities :p

In deity, I find that it's not about having a good start, it's about your enemies having bad starts. The best start in the world will not help you if you get attacked by an aggressive leader 1800BC with 2 axeman and 3 swordsmen.

It's a good city, I'm not sure if it's an amazing capital, but definitely an amazing GP farm as long as you can whip out the necessary buildings. Or you can just build nothing but a granary and work the cottages for 2000 years.

dang, such a nice city gaurded by warriors :D
(first picture of big city)

Haven't played for a while but gave it a shot.

Till 1840 victory.

Spoiler :

Early tech path: BW, Agg(pop), Hunting, AH, Archery, Wheel, Myst, Pottery..
Build: Wb, size 2, worker, wb, warrior, wb, 3x archer, settler, archer,worker..

4000BC - Settle in place.

2520BC - Didn't get to explore much. Getting quite some barb activity. I started to make archers just in time. Turn 37 barbs start entering my border.

1880BC - York 3S of the capital, grabbing wheat & horses.

1560BC - Met Hatty (Buddhist).

1280BC
- Settled Nottingham in the N/E, getting marble, rice & cow.

1120BC - Met Pericles (Buddhist). I hope Buddhism spreads to me soon.

775BC - Researched monarchy and switch to HR.

700BC - Settled Hastings, getting iron & fish.

675BC - Hatty captures a barb city bordering Nottingham, I will most likely lose the cow to her culture.

650BC
- Met Julius (Buddhist).

625BC - Buddhism spread and I adopt it.

350BC - Bulb phil & found taoism. Switch to Caste & Pacifism.

325BC
- Settle Canterbury, getting cow & floods.

75BC - Tech overview, doesn't look good. Played a rather weak opening I think (or the AI's are trading a lot due everyone being Buddhist).

50AD - Settle Coventry. Getting eastern iron, clam & fish.

150AD - Settle Warwick.

275AD - Capture barb city.

500AD - Lib, will pick Nationalism.

740AD
- Tech overview looking decent.

800AD - TM built in York.

920AD - Meet Hammurabi & Qin (both Hindu). Both their fav civic is Bur so I should be able to stay Buddhist without them totally hating me.

1010AD - Meet Toku.

1040AD - Qin & Ham dow Toku.

1140AD - Julius asks me to dow Toku, which I do for diplo.

1200AD - Tech overview .. meh.

1250AD - Bribe Qin into war with Pericles.

1340AD - Overview.

1470AD - Sushi in Coventry.

1575AD
- Researched computers. Tech overview.

1640AD - Internet.

1650AD - Capital.

1670AD
- Capital again, with watermills.

1820AD - Launched. Toku dowed me in the meanwhile but his units are inferior.

1828AD - Toku captured Warwick, which I take back next turn.

1840AD - Victory, no aluminum sucks btw.

I played this one too as i was interested in seeing the difference this capital would make.

Spoiler :

Got friendly with Pericles,Hats,Julius on my continent. The other continent is extremely big and also rather backward. I could fight a prolonged war with Pericles or Hats but instead,

Teched to tanks and bombers, got them around 1600 AD and just took over the other continent. This was a very easy map, not because of the capital but

1. friendly peaceful neighbours sharing religion
2. 3 backward civs with great land, it's always important when making an attack plan to look beyond your closest neighbours. Something you learn when playing lots of isolated starts (i did in the past), it's the same way of thinking.

So did the capital help? i'm a bit uncertain about that, of course it did especially in the beginning when i could whip with impunity. But i had a feeling that it was just too much. It was always terribly unhealthy somewhat negating the food surplus. It's also a bit irritating to see all this food go to waste. I think it was no better than your average great capital,a land capital with only grass/fp squares would probably outclass this one mid-late game.

But maybe i should have planned more specific with things like national park instead of IW, you could run a lot of oxford representation scientists there.

@BurN,
Spoiler :

Nice game:goodjob:, you're very good at these space races. Remarkable that Qin and Ham were so big in your game, was contact made very early in your game? Iirc it was very late in my game which could account for their backwardness. Other explanation could be Toku, he got a fair chunk of the southern lands in my game preventing the others from getting too big.

Likewise.;)

I didn't meet the other continent till +- 1000AD, which isn't early. Imho the reason Qin and Ham were big/advanced is because they shared religion. Probably gave them good trading and they were ganging Toku.

@BurN
Spoiler :

Yes, must be the religion. Ham and Qin hated each other in my game and Toku wasn't much help either of course. This really made the game very easy for me.

You know what I see...?
the Great Theater and hundreds of whiped population..
