signed CWOH Commonwealth

I'd appreciate consideration as the CWOH Commonwealth, if it's still available. I'll be reading the thread and preparing characters and information for future involvement.

Edit: Also, to any of my potential future neighbors, I check my PMs regularly. I look forward to open communications with all of you.

Can you confirm that your new administration will continue the CWOH's membership in the Treaty of the United Americas?

If so, we can invite you to the social group.

Banner up. I think I got at least one thing from everyone who contributed an image.

Also, no one needs to check with me before claiming an NPC. Just take one. To the best of my knowledge, I've never refused a player, and the only people I’ve booted didn’t send orders twice in a row.

"Is it working?" one man in white asked another while typing away on his touchscreen. The other shot him a glance.

"How would I know? You were part of the neural network team. I'm just tech support."

"What is the simulation percentage of stated goal?"

"We're up to 72%."

"Can you make it higher?"

"Do you think supercomputers grow on trees?"

"Perhaps...if we engineer the tress right."

"Ugh..." the other man sighed and continued waving his meaty fingers in the air in the simulated reality area.

"What was the real story behind that 'controlled demolition'?"[air quotes flagged]

"It was a gift from our new friends in the NEU. Originally one of yours but enhanced by them they say. You know how. Went completely balls to the walls somehow. Haven't exactly fine-tuned that stuff yet. Took 4 sticky bombs from our tech lab and went building climbing with the adhesives."

ConsularPalace.png

The sun was low, and gave the sky a lovely deep pink hue. The cobblestone walkway leading to the Consular Palace, flanked with classical statuary of toga-clad men and women and ancient soldiers, was filled to the brim with people, with the crowd extending well beyond the government complex. Police and military in full dress stood before the Consular Palace, both keeping the peace and creating a show. The red banners and Roman flags that were scattered uniformly through the complex lightly in a warm Mediterranean breeze. The day seemed almost fictional.

It was perfect for Nico Romano's debut, as Consul of the Roman Republic.

He strided from the arched entrance of the Consular Palace along a red carpet, grinning and waving gloved hands as the crowd began to cheer. He wore the Consular uniform, a black, militaryesque uniform with red and gold trim, and on his head a cap with the Roman eagle and fascis to the fore and an embroidered wreath surrounding the cap till it met the emblem. From his shoulders fluttered a great cape, with red exterior and gold interior. His image was captured by cameras and broadcasted on massive HDTVs at the two ends of the palace. The spectacle was one of grandeur.

Few had seen a bigger grin as well.

He stood on the balcony, flanked by teleprompters, cameras, microphones, and the newly-formed Praetorian Guard. He continued to wave as the cheerful din continued, shouting "Grazie!" repeatedly till the crowd faded away. Then he began his speech.

"My fellow Romans, of all races and ethnicities, I come to you as a lucky man. I am very fortunate to be the Consul of the Roman Republic, and I would not trade this office for the high office of any other nation. For many years, the people of Southern Europe have been afflicted with war, starvation, and poor leadership. But in the face of tribulation, we all have stood strong. For this, I couldn't possibly wish to lead any other nation.

"The Roman Republic itself has had a rough start. With the collapse of the European Union, which few in the Republic wished for, people feared the worst. Fortunately, the worst was evaded, but soon decades of corruption and incompetency by Leonardo Costa's PRR nearly broke the economy and, what's worse, the will of the nation. I was in the military when Costa was in power, and I became frustrated with the shortsightedness of the PRR. When I became Senator, I vowed to end the corruption of Leonardo Costa's government. I could not do it alone. Without the support of the people, I would not have made it to this office. It was not only a difficult task to do, it was dangerous, as the PRR establishment was willing to do anything to get me out of the way, including assassinate me."

Vicious shouts and boos came from the crowd. Nico Romano waited for the crowd to calm down. "However, I persevered. I knew that only through new and fresh leadership could the Roman Republic, and the Roman People, prosper. With that, I called out the PRR, and my NFP-PRR made sweeping victories, and I was elected Consul by the Senate. With the PRR and the Republic under new leadership, I am sure that we all will prosper.

"As I have promised, much of the economy and governance will be decentralized. Local communities will be given more control over their economies and laws, to make decisions that would benefit them. And I will bring back the proud Roman military tradition, to ensure that our nation is safe in a world full of hostile powers.

"We cannot protect ourselves alone. When I found that the previous government had been engaged in talks with Britain and France, I not only continued but pushed more aggressively for the proposed alliance. Now, the Roman Republic is a leading member of what was the Pact of Europe, now the Neo-European Union. We must defend our allies if they are to defend us, should the day come when we need it.

"The so-called Incan 'Republic' has declared war on our French allies, taking French holdings in South America. It seems that Reza Eghtedar and her PSN wish to create a South American empire, under her tyranical rule. I cannot allow a peaceful people to fall victims to those murderers. A state of war now exists between the Roman Republic and the Incan Republic.

"I understand why some may be skeptical of fighting this war. The land is far away, and isn't really in Roman interests. To this, I say, anything that is in the interest of our allies and in the interest of peace and freedom is in the interest of Rome. If we do not support our allies, how can we expect them to support us in our time of need? As a leading and faithful member of the NEU, we must act against this unwarranted act of agression. I assure you, this war will not disrupt Roman society and our plans to grow the Roman economy, and the war will end quickly, as the silly Rezans soon realize that they do not stand a chance against the coalition set against them.

"In the meantime, I will continue to pursue policies intended at growing the Roman economy, so that all can experience prosperity. I will listen to the pleas of the people I am chosen to lead, and improve life for all Romans, whether they be a Sicilian or a Croat. We will remain a safe and free people, and soon, the Roman Republic will be the envy of the world. This is my promise to you all. Thank you, may God bless you, and have a good night."

The crowd broke into thunderous cheers and applause. Nico Romano waved to the crowd and blew a few kisses, then turned back to the entrance, his cape swishing grandly. The Praetorian Guard followed behind him, holding assault rifles in the palms and leaned against their shoulders. Once inside, the leader of the troop rushed ahead to walk alongside Romano.

"That was a very fine speech, Consul," she said.

"That speech?" Nico Romano laughed. "Carmela, I can assure you that that was the finest bulls**t I ever said."

The Cabinet of Napoleon IX
"You are not much of a financier, but you are a man of action. Cut through the nonsense of the economists and build up the economy!"- Napoleon XIV, to his new finance minister
"It is not in the nature of a monarchy to be radical."- Napoleon XIII, in his last year of life

During the reign of Napoleon VIII, the government of France had been dominated by a series of appointed Prime Ministers- they knew that without the suport of the Emperor they could not survive as Prime Minister, but the Emperor similarily knew that he was expected to stay out of day to day affairs- a protocol which he (Napoleon VIII) had contributed to the establishment of.

Napoleon IX, who took Napoleon the Great as his idol, was far more than his father a monarch of the old style. He believed that a charismatic leader, backed up with nationalistic rhethoric and the doctrine of Divine Right, could ensure popular support without the need for constitutional restraints.

When Napoleon VIII died durign the attack on the Guineas, Prime Minister Conde made a desperate attempt to stay in power but knew he was ultimately doomed. Making a rousing speech in which he referred to "cowards of Emperors" whom "the great Napoleon would spit on!", Napoleon IX made the technically constitutionally acceptable decision to appoint himself as Prime Minister for the duration of the Guineas war.

The new cabinet was by design dominated by four major individuals:

-Guesde was made Minister of Industry, Civil Service Minister (effectively putting him in charge of the civil service), Minister of Fishing, and Minister of Intelligence (French intelligence agencies of all sorts). Napoleon knew he was easily dominable, but due to his reputation so did the general public- the question was if he wanted to assert himself that greatly so soon.

-Conde was made Minister for Foriegn Affairs, Minister for Defence (a position involving only the direct defence of the homeland), and Attorney General. Napoleon IX attempted to give the impression that Conde was a potential future Prime Minister, but this was a bluff.

-Chevènement was made Minister of Finance, Minister for the Economy, Minister of Labour, and Minister of Education. Napoleon IX was unsure about him- he was a 'man of action' and a staunch monarchist, but there was a risk he was too assertive and would go against the new reforms in favor of what he thought was best for the Emperor and Country.

-Fillon was made Minister for War- Napoleon IX respected his abilities and believed that he was "an administrator par excellance", but feared he would attempt to reassert the powers of the Prime Ministership whilst Napoleon was trying to reduce them. It was suspected Fillon had Republican sympathies, but this was never proven.

First-Generation ASIST

The subject emerges slowly from the sensory-deprivation tank. Cables and wires trail after him, most leading to his shaved scalp, temples, neck and face, a few to his body. Except for these he is naked.

A man in a lab-coat holds a touch-screen digital secretary, “Well?”

The subject tries to speak but suddenly feels dizzy and reaching for stability but unable to find any, topples over. Laying on the ground he vomits. A moment passes. The subject blinks. Slowly. Then eyes closed, lying naked in a pool of vomit, he smiles, “It works.”

The man with the lab coat is extatic, he runs over to a console on the sensory deprivation tank which is really so much more. Punching the keypad faster than he ever has before he stands mystified, “This is… Its amazing. You did it.”

The man on the ground is ripping the electrodes off, wiping vomit from the side of his face, “Yeah. We did it. I saw it all. It was like being inside of some video game. A slave node controlling an elevator was like being in an elevator. The processing controlling security, it was like some sort of command center. Everything, all the code, I could see it, feel it, hear it. And I was fast…”

shadowrun_gen_matrix.jpg

“Goddam right you were fast. You hacked our biggest competitor in less than three seconds… industrial secrets worth millions… in three seconds. And none of their security even saw you.”

“Three seconds? It felt like at least twenty minutes. And no, their security… I could see its faults… visually. Not code, but representations of it. I could see how I could spoof it. A tweak here. A push there… and poof… files and files and files all glistening with golden pesos. Nothing will ever be the same.

On October 16th, 2051, a team of engineers employed by the ESP System, Inc of Havana, under contract from the Carribean CyberSecurity Forces creates first-generation ASIST (Artificial Sensory Induction System) technology. While the commercial and entertainment aspects of artificial neuronal stimulation are staggering, the computer industry immediately recognizes the potential key for a data processing explosion, greatly reducing the one still very significant bottleneck to computation- human interface. The military too sees potential.

Glory to the Atlantic Kingdom

The night before the coronation, the Royal Palace was abuzz. Servants scrambling about preparing for the day ahead, nobles jockeying for a position closest to the Queen, the Royal Guard preparing for their last maneuvers. Throughout the country even, the atmosphere seemed to be mystified. The coming war between Quebec and Canada could literally be less than fifty miles away, yet there were no reports of the small skirmishes that were occurring. The Holo-nets, the 24 hour live uplinks, the stations, all they could talk about was the coronation. Politicians were preparing speeches, the pubs were stocking up, everyone in the Kingdom seemed so happy. Even the serfs, who had such a difficult time concerning themselves with the glorious destiny of the Atlantic Kingdom and the celebration of those who ruled them seemed to be more relaxed.

200px-Royal_Monogram_of_Princess_Victoria_of_Sweden.svg.png

In a floor of the Royal Palace, a small pre-party of sorts was going on. Nico Romano and several Atlantic Grand Dukes were talking intently of defense of their nations, the Brazilian president joked with the Incan ambassador, and the Texan ambassador held an audience captive as he described the coming war between Canada and Quebec. Those in the military or the diplomatic corps nodded knowingly; the nobles more involved in finance and other similar matters did their best to not look like they had no idea what was going on.

Princess Victoria surveyed the room, smiling to everyone, and anyone who passed her received a remark of some sort, and the executive of the CWOH Commonwealth and the Princess had an excellent conversation of North American affairs. The party didn’t go late, after all the day after was the real celebration.

Washington had an excellent day of weather for the coronation; the House of Washington could not have asked for anything better; Charles II began his reign in the rain, and everyone knew how that ended.

First came the posturing of the guards.

The crowd headed to the Royal Church, where the Archbishop of Washington read her the oath of the Queen. And when she at last finished her oath, the Archbishop kneeled before her and offered the crown. Taking the crown in both hands, she raised it for all to see, and triumphantly placed it upon her own head where the crowd exploded into joy. The second the crown was placed upon her head, a twenty one artillery gun salute went off, and the Royal Air Force took to the skies, confirming their Queen.

One last ceremony had to take place. In view of all, the Pillar of Victory stood tall, unlit. Upon her coronation, the Pillar of Victory was lit with the Eternal Flame of Victory, sending the crowd into an ecstatic celebration throughout the country.

And when the day after the subjects of the Atlantic Kingdom went to their banks and post offices, the familiar image of the wrinkled, tired face of George IV was gone, and in his place was a young woman, prepared to lead her nation into glory.

At last, it was a reality. Victoria was their Queen.

Fillion's New War Plan
OOC: Only vague references- it doesn't matter that much as I'm up against an NPC, but I figure it to be good form.

"So, Diodore. You think you can adjust?"
"The plan has had... many changes. I approved of the original plan- I cannot say the same of the new one."
"Master Fillion expects great things of you. We cannot let this country down, nor let anyone outshine us."
"One last thing."
"Go on...."
"Why are we speaking in English?"

There was a stunned silence. Diodore looked out the windows of Versallies, as his 'comrade' waited and thought about how to answer. After about two seconds, he sighed and continued.

"You are new here, Diodore. You should not investigate too much into things that do not concern you."
"Please- just this one thing. I have to know!"
"I would have thought it was obvious!"

Diodore very much doubted he thought that. His mysterious counterpart, whom he had seen at Fillion's right hand but who had refused to reveal his name, looked around to see if anyone was watching then continued.

"Since about two years there has been a conspiracy theory in the court claiming that most of the courtiers and officials are English spies. Most of the people who might hear us do not speak English- if they hear us, there is a good chance they will assume the worst and ignore a much more reasonable possibility."
"Ah- I see."
"Good. Now can we get back to our plans?"

The streets of Bamako were wild with enthusiasm. Party flags adourned every street corner, everywall, and every light post. To a lesser degree, the flags of the other LIARS nations were flown, underneath the party flag of course. Military unit after unit began their march down the street onto Freedom and Union Square where the entirety of the United Revolutionary Assembly of National Governance sat to view the Union's Grand Army of the Revolution parade. In the center sat Kélen Toumani, calm and straight faced.

The band sitting below him struck up the Union's March.

Link to video.

Kélen Toumani stood to speak, in one of his first public addresses.

denzel%20washingtonMTA4.jpg

'Two hours of march, and the Union's Grand Army of the Revolution is here!'
*pause for applause*
"I would be in awe, if I was not so terrified by the site of the Séegin laying down the hammer to take up a rifle, of the Wólonwula getting off of their tractors to drive tanks, or of the Wɔɔrɔ using their math skills, not for the good of the Union's economy, but for the repositioning of our artillery. This army is an extension of the people. And never in the history of all time, have the people fighting under the flag of such a noble idea as true Freedom, and Peace lost to the forces of evil.

We did not ask to be a shining light of happiness in an otherwise dreary world of failure. We did not ask for the burden of being the force that seperates civilization from barbarianism. But we do not complain. We take these chances of being great with stride, the way our fathers have, and their fathers have. We send our young boys to fight a world away, not for economic oppurtunity, or for any type of tangible value. No, we do it, because it is right. Because when a people, so long oppressed by the powers of evil and idiocracy want freedom, it becomes our sacred duty to make sure they achieve. Our duty to make sure that they too can feel the warmth of revolution. That they too know what Freedom feels like. The bonds of slavery their imperialist masters forced upon them will be forced off, first by the arms of our armies, then by the resources of our factories, and the food from our farms.

sudan%20army.jpg

The poor nation that must stand in front of our economic, industrial and military onslaught are the Mongoloid capitalist children of the Khan who have taken the title of Rus. These piggish creatures dwell on the flattest of the Steppes, the most mediocre of mountains, and in the coldest of forests. These creatures chose to be run, not by a leader, but by a tyrant. A tyrant who decided to thrust his nation into the arms of war with our good allies over a single city. If anyone has heard of anything more foolish, you may call themselves an Australian-Hungarian. These Rus armies moved through the cold, unforgiving forests of the Baltic, raping, killing and looting the entire way. Families were torn apart, so these sub-humans could see nothing more then the pain on a mothers face, upon seeing her baby torn from her arms. These cruel, sick people killed the innocent people of the Balt Confederation en masse, for sheer entertainment value. These Rus drink themselves into a stupor each night, to contend with the awfulness of their own lives.

And so, on this day, I declare that your work, your blood, sweat and tears will no longer be focused on propelling our Grand Union towards new, brave heights. Instead, it will be shifted to the bloody practice of war. Since our words cannot be understood by a people of such low intellegence, perhaps our bullets will. The moment the cowardly Rus decided they had the audacity to kill your Comrades in the streets, to kill the future of our generation, and to strip us of the peace we so long sat in and enjoyed- that is the moment when the full force of the revolution turned it's vengeful gaze to the Mongoloids. And take care Comrades, we do not face this alone. The people's of Germany, Japan and the Balt Confederacy all share their own brunt of this battle. Together, we are invincible. Mosscall will feel the treads of our tanks, and the boots of your sons before the next year is through.

Onwards Comrades. Onwards, and spread the revolution."

gunsflowers.jpg

And with those simple words, thousands of Africans marched off to a land they never heard of, to fight a people they would hardly call human. The revolution shall be heard, even in the backwards land of the Rus. The people cheered of course. They didn't know how to do anything but cheer.

To: The Rushin Empire

We hereby dissolve all relations with your government. Consider a state of war existing between our two nations. May the Kélen Toumani, Grand Hero of the Revolution (And May He Live Eternal) have mercy upon your nation.
