Have you considered building Stonehenge to pop a GP and use him for theology once you have finished the path to it. (doesn't take too many chops to accomplish either and adds to your GP points)

Got it, great turns so far!

Wow we have Alex and Monty on our treasure island, where is Toku? We need Toku! Oh well, even without him the game will be bloody enough, methinks

Here is my attempt to make our first dotmap. I hope you like it, if not, it doesn't matter, because it's my turn to play and I like it :crazyeye: Hehe, just kidding, of course

dotmap00002fc.jpg

I think that green dot is not a bad location, it will give us the pigs, the oasis, 3 floodplains and planty of grassland. And it fits perfectly with pink dot (ok I know it's not exaclty pink, but let's imagine it is...)

As you can see from the screenshot above, we can research alphabet in just 16 turns, this would let us trade for all technologies that we need before theology: Polytheism (6) Monotheism (8) and Masonry (3) The reasoning behind my suggestion for alphabet is the number of civs on our continent. But I am not sure if it's really a good idea and that's why I am putting it here.

I assume that we've given up the race for the oracle, but what about stonehenge? We can build this big stony thing in only 13 turns in Madrid. Of course we can speed up the process with some chops. As Cosmichail said, we can use the GProphet to research theology for us (not sure if he'll be born in time for theolgy) or to build us the Church of Nativity. We need the Church of Nativity anyways. Should we give 'henge a try?

On the military side, I am really glad that we have monopoly on the 'phants :hammer: From all civs, I fear Alex at most, because he's too close, and because he has the habbit to attack, even with inferior army.

Those are just my thoughts, looking forward to reading your comments :)

Edit: Whoops, there was a mistaken location of Monty in the first edition of this post, hope nobody caught it :mischief: So where is actually Monty? Oh, and we should decide how many turns I and the ruler after me will play.

i defo think we shud build the henge it will give all our cities sum obelisks wich saves buildin them plus gives a nice gp boost we cud also build a library in madrid after henge and run 1 science specialist to boost research and the gp points:)

I say go for Henge!
We already have a library in Madrid, so we could run a specialist to get a great person. But then we get a GS with 60% probability; I don't like to rely on that to get Theology first. :)
Building Henge and pop a GP for Theology means 12+50 = 62 turns. Current research time for math + construction + alphabet = 12+22 +16 = 50 turns.
Well, I like the idea to build Henge ASAP and use GP for Theology. He will get us that right, not CoL?

As our whole game depend on founding Christianity I think it’s good we discuss this as a team.

Henge is still good for border expansion and to get a GP for our shrine. So we should build it anyway! :D

I really like your dotmap there omurtag. Two good commerce cities with coastal access, the later is extra nice since we’re expansive and get cheap harbours.

I think that the GP will give you Monotheism first before Theology. You could put the prophet to sleep until Judasim if FIDL and then wake him up after you research Monotheism. He should offer Theology then.

Is the fifth spot still open?

Lurker comment:
Good way to get Theology is have a Prophet stashed away, research Montheism until one turn away from completion, then switch to another tech. As soon as someone else gets Monotheism (Judaism FIDL message) switch back to mono, finish in 1 turn, use Prophet for Theology.

Turn 0 (1560)
Our enlightened people demand alphabet, so I switch from mathematics to alphabet to please them.

Here I stop and think about our plan for stonehenge, we have worker due in 5 in Madrid, besides him we have only one worker for our 3 cities. I decide tp let him finish first, and then to start henge. On the next turns the roaming scout finds that our continent is bigger than I actually thought.

bigcont26qv.jpg

I bet Monty is on the other side.

Turn 4 (1360)
Sev. start building barracks, after whipping a granary :whipped: Madrid starts stonehenge and I let our people pray, that we'll be the first to finish it. Oops, I forgot, we don't have a relligion, so our people cannot pray. In Barcellona we start another warrior (not many options)

Turn 7 (1240)
Barcellona finishes warrior and starts a library just for a couple of turns until we hook up the iron. The annoying city of Damascus is founded on our western border.

annocity5ib.jpg

Turn 10
Our scouting warrior kills a barb warrior while defending, looses 0.9 strength. Good thing we made to the woods. Heals for 5 turns. Finally, our iron is hooked up, and we start an axe in Barcellona.

Turn 12
Judaism founded! Huyana drops by to ask for open borders, I agree. In the mean time, crossing my fingers, that nobody builds stonehenge on the next turn. It's 1040 now, and I start getting nervous.

Turn 15
We got it :woohoo: We build Stonehenge, woohoo! I think we got lucky here.

henge2wj.jpg

Dialed up Sali, and traded some techs, since we have the luxury of alphabet :D The deal is slightly better for us.

trade3bz.jpg

Huyana doesn't want to treade monotheism, so be it! We'll have to research it ourselves.

Turn 16
Alex has founded a city near pink dot, and the position is unacceptable. We might want to hit Alex first, anyways.

thermo6yw.jpg

Green dot is still available, and although I couldn't settle there during my turns, I recommend the next player to do it.

Turn 18

Our warrior on a "forested hill" kills a barb warrior while defending. Healing for 3 Turns.

Turn 19
Monty goes hindu.

Here is a picture of our world

and the research:

Monotheism is due in 1 Turn, after that we can go straight for Theology (24) or Mathematics (10) It's time to whip Madrid. But please do not whip Barcellona for now, as Krockel said, it's a food poor city. We are currently building a farm on a grassland tile there (due in 3).

The GP in Madrid is due in 45 turns now, he won't show up until it's too late for theology. Unless we put some scientist specialists, but they will mix our chances for GP. We have to discuss this.

I played 19 Turns, and I suggest the next player plays 15, the next 10 and so on...

FoolontheHill, I believe the fifth spot is still open, but adiii has the final word.

Pigswill, thanks for lurking, the GP will probably come too late, though.

Here's the roster (who posts the roster, captain adiii or the player, that just played?)

1. Adi
2. Krockel
3. Omurtag --> Just played
4. Adamlan --> Up now!
5. Still Open --> On deck :crazyeye:

Henge for us! :D

Good turns and I specially liked the trade there omurtag!

Variant: We must found cristianism but can not found any other religion. Once we founded cristianism we must war the other religious block once a time. If there are civilizations without religion we must try to convert them!

So to be able to follow this I think we should go math-construction-theology. Otherwise we have to go to war with axe/swords only. That could be a real pain, since iron are plenty on this map so we'll face a lot of axes.
To be able to convert others to Christianity we need Meditation. Shouldn't be to hard to trade for that though. Maybe we could trade for math to.

I agree, if we can trade for Math and Meditation it would be nice. Math vs Theology is a tough choice. And to make it even harder, we can consider Monarchy an option too, because our fine people demand wine, and the hereditary rule civic will make them even happier. In a normal game I would choose Monarchy, but given our variant rules... oh, well, that's what makes the game interesting, isn't it :D Seems there isn't a perfect solution to our tech puzzle right now :crazyeye:

ill post my turns tonight i think we shud put in 2 science specials but jus before we get a gp we take them off and we then hav a 100% chance of getting a prophet

I think that's the way to go.
We could even build a library in Seville and run scientists there. Then Madrid can work it's two hills and pump out troops.

Thanks! I see it and should be able to play and get a report up by tomorrow evening.:yeah:

425 BC - Inherited turn.

Our people feel lost. They are beginning to grumble and turn an amazing shade of red. They need to know their place in the universe.

Short term goals: get religion! Start building attack stack as we will be declaring war on at least one infidel soon.

Changed some builds to swordsmen to start preparing a stack. Also assigned scientists where I needed to slow growth due to unhappiness.

Turn 1 - 400BC

:whipped: Too much unhappy in Madrid. Got a swordsman and let the carryover go to the aqueduct in the queue.

Turn 2 - 375BC

Saladin completes Oracle and takes COL (founds confuscianism).

We should have Theology by the end of my set. If I understand the rules of the variant correctly, we will then need to attack one of the other religious blocks. I suggest Huayna since he is close and is the only Buddhist. I'm building a stack of swords and axes and staging it east of Cordoba to prepare.

Turn 3 - 350BC

Tacitus says that we are the largest civilization. (Nice of him to stop by, we offer him :coffee:.

Turn 4 - 325BC

Bismark completes the Pyramids.

Monte asks for open borders. I see no reason to refuse.

Granary completes in Cordoba. I start Barracks as I think we may be building units there soon.

We are at happy limit at Seville so I assign a couple of scientists to stop growth.

Turn 5 - 300BC

Built another sword in Madrid, back to aqueduct.

Turn 6 - 275BC

Horses are now hooked up.

Turn 7 - 250BC

Moses is born in Madrid. I put him to sleep to (hopefully) build the Church of the Nativity.

Turn 8 - 225BC

Guess what....

civ4screenshot00068rx.jpg

and...
civ4screenshot00075mk.jpg

:worship:

Sent missionary to Madrid. Sent Moses to Seville to get to work on the church. :hammer:

Start Priesthood to get temples (we need 'em).

Turn 9 - 200BC

Saladin cancels open borders.

Started walls in Madrid. Next player can cancel this, but I've left defense a little light in the north and if Saladin decides to attack, we could be at a disadvantage there.

Oh..another thing happened...

civ4screenshot00088fd.jpg

That Moses is quick.

Turn 10 - 175BC
Priesthood completes, start Construction.

Converted Barcelona to Christianity, (Madrid went on its own).

 Alexander has seen the light and converted. We may want to try to bring him in as an ally against the nonbelievers.

Okay. I didn't immediately declare war on Huayna as I wanted to make sure I understood that rule correctly. However, I think it is time. I have a stack of 1 sword and 3 axes one tile east of Cordoba with two more swords that will be there in 2 turns. It is pretty light as an offensive force, but per the rules, it should start in on Huayna and make what progress it can while we bring more units to bear.

Adii, I turn the show over to you.
