Installing under Windows 7

Did you ever check your CampaignRecord file, Ozymandius? Is it "read only"?

I just checked, changed the setting, reloaded my second last autosave and still crashed...

Question: If you go back and check it again, does it say it's back to "read only"? If so, you may not have permission to change it as that log on. Make sure you're doing it as an administrator. If you don't have the permission (as sharing the file, or owner, or admin) it will let you think you changed it, but it reverts back to what it was.

I checked and it did not revert.
is there more than one location where a screen res command can be entered?
When I compare my Dell it does not show "Compatibility files" while my Lenovo does.
Both run MS7 home premium editions.

No, the conquests.ini is the only file.

I think the Conquests folder is the only one that brings up the Compatibility Files tab. Good luck with yer game.

No compatibility file on my I-5 dell..
And no screenRes file but it loads automatically into wide screen...

Now for help with the Civassist II link..??

Now for help with the Civassist II link..??

Have you tried the procedure in this post

Whilst I'm fresh from getting CAII working on Win 7 64-bit, here's how I did it:

1. Download / locate your CivAssist_II_Setup.msi file. Kinda important that one.
2. Create a folder called C:\DotNet (or whatever) on your PC.
2. Download the .NET 1.1 framework redistributable package, which is called dotnetfx.exe, into this folder. Get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26
3. Download .NET 1.1 SP1, from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=33. Save this in the same folder as the previous download. Rename it something easier to type if you like, e.g. dotnetfxsp1.exe.
4. Make sure you're logged into Windows as an Administrator.
5. Open a command prompt (Windows-R, cmd, OK).
6. cd C:\DotNet
7. Run dotnetfx.exe (there may be a prompt about compatibility issues, ignore it and continue on to install)
8. dotnetfxsp1.exe /Q /L:C:\DotNet\dotnetfxsp1.log
9. The .NET installation is done, now install CivAssist II. If all is well, it'll detect the right version of .NET 1.1 and run.
10. Right-click on the CivAssist II icon, select the Compatibility tab, and select Compatibility with Windows XP SP3.
11. CivAssist II should now run.

HERE'S THE LINK TO THE PROGRAM. According to the thread. Good luck.

IT WORKS....
I do not know where the files installed but after many trials and errors it works..

Now how to end the dreaded whiteout at the end...

Thank you all :king: ... Now back to some serious time wasting...

I noticed something strange when installing Civ3 in Windows 7. The install appeared to work fine, but when I went to run the game, the shortcut didn't work. Investigation showed that the registry entries had been added, but the game had not actually installed on my hard drive (despite all indications to the contrary during the install).

Anyway - the fix:
1.) Don't use the autorun when the CD gets inserted.
2.) Open windows explorer and use that to view the CD contents.
3.) Right-click on "setup.exe", and choose "properties".
4.) On the "compatability" tab, check the option to run in WIndows XP compatability mode.
5.) Also check the "run as administrator" option.
5.) Close the properties window.
6.) Double-click on the setup.exe icon - it should now install properly.

NOte: If you already installed and it didn't work, then the first time you run setup like this, it will actually uninstall the game, and you need to run it a gain to install.

Note 2: You should also do the same steps for any patches you install (compatability mode, run as administrator).

When I try to launch Civ4, a box appears labeled ActiveMark technologies stating that an internet connection is required. Whether I click "Already Connected" or "Connect", I get the same result: "Error connecting to the internet".
There is no problem with my browser, my connection is fine for everything but this game.
I am running an HP model p6710f with Windows 7 64 bit. Integrated graphics using ATI Radeon 4200.

I don't remember where I bought this, probably from the now-defunct Direct2Drive, and it is not appearing in my list of Gamefly games, and Gamefly support is practically nonexistent.

I just finished.. well almost.. on a Gateway computer and right after the guy with the hammer finished, my game locked up and I had to move my file to my Dell desktop for the needed submission file.

Thank you Puppeteer for your you tube video...it worked well for me on the Gold edition of Civ III; however I have this annoying MS security threat that keeps popping up? It does not appear to me to be of any significance, but wanted to get the forums opinion.

Threat -- Program:Win32/PowerRegScheduler

How do I get rid of this MS Essentials Alert?

I spent 3 hours last night reading through the posts...got my game working at 02:00/ played until 7:15am..slept 4 hours and was back at it at 11:00 this morning. Thank you for helping me to get my CIV back ON!!!

Did you register your game?

EDIT: Or your Windows 7? Or maybe some type of Win Esentials registration? Or some other new program?

I did not complete the registration for the game=opted out. played for 10 hours flawlessly last night but MS essentials still wants to wipe clean the identified MALware?

I don't use Essentials, but if you can't tell the program to ignore the powerregscheduler, try removing it from your startup. It's not malware, just something that reminds you to register (at least I'm pretty sure that's what it does). See if you can disable it.

Yeah, I just googled it. I was in the ball park. You shouldn't have any major problems.

I'm pretty sure Cyc is right. It is a nag-ware for registration or something. It doesn't affect gameplay. Let it clean it if you want to get rid of the alert. I do use MS Security Essentials and I let it clean when it alerts me.

I'm glad the video helped. I just used the same method to install on Windows 8 Consumer Preview this weekend. I had done it before, but just as a test. This time I played a few hours. Everything works fine. CivAssist II is sometimes slow to draw itself when alt-tabbing in Win8, but that's the only Win8 oddity I've noted so far.

I'm sure this has been asked many times before:

Just loaded Civ 3 Complete on to a Windows 7 Ultimate machine for a friend. (I'm used to running Civ 3 on an XP machine.)

Game starts okay but doesn't go to full screen. How can I make that happen? :)
