I was finishing off Egypt, when Julius Ceasar declared war on Gandhi. I knew JC would ask me to join the war soon, and I had to say yes, because I needed the diplomatic bonus even though it was an inconvenient time for war. Sure enough, JC asked for help, and I DOW'd Gandhi. Immediately after, on the same turn, up pops this message:

:rotfl:

Of course I took the deal, because I didn't want to fight a 2-front war, and Drama was a red-lined tech (Gandhi had a monopoly.)

How often does this happen?? Me & my friend were ROFL for ten minutes, because we've both played Civ4 for years and we've NEVER seen something like this happen!!!

Oh, and Gandhi's response was rather disturbing...considering who's saying it:

Lol, Funny, he offer trade befor some one offer to declare, so his trade offer got converted to case of fire offer.
Well, you got + with other guy for nothing. :)

Yeah, it's probably bug-related... but still, it's rather cool... especially since it hardly ever happens (does it?) one could just consider it lucky. Like a bonus of sorts.

Well, it happened again. This time, when JC asked me to DOW and I agreed, Gandhi immediately asked me to...convert to Hinduism. Sheeya, right...but I was able to negotiate an immediate peace settlement for all of his gold. The skinny twerp wouldn't give up Divine Right, though.

Apparently, I didn't get the +1 "helped us during wartime" bonus with JC either time, though I didn't get a penalty either. So...this is something uncommon? It's actually getting a little annoying, I want to get this war started!! (Need more catapults, though...)

Looks like a bug to me. AFAIK, two-way trades are not allowed when negotiating a Cease Fire or Peace Treaty. The screenshot shows tech going in both directions.

Most likely the trade was planned to be offered by the Gandhi AI on the same turn that the Julius AI happened to ask you to join the war. So it's a coincidence, but a coincidence unaccounted for in the game mechanics, and which produces a bug that should be fixed. ;)

i stopped trading with gandhi in a game to avoid the 'you refused' penalty when someone asked, i mean, he's gandhi, he doesn't give you red -1s for refusing help or stopping trading.

a few turns later, i wanted to talk to him to trade again, he refused to talk to me, even tho he was pleased or friendly (i forget). the very next turn, he comes to me, begging me to take him as a vassal *giggle*.

i don't think there are ceasefire option without number of turns specified, and you can't do two-way trade while at war

I think that Gandhi was going to trade Drama and the gold for MC, but after the OP declared war, that deal necessitated a ceasefire, so that was automatically put into the deal. Otherwise, peace deals must be only 1 sided or nothing. I think that that is the only reasonable explaination.
