This is what I call a productive city and it do not have a powerplant yet...

Hooverdam ready in five rounds! Go!

And yes pollution is reduced and Madrid has got some additional production buildings
- Windmill (+25%)
- Blacksmith (+50% required iron in city range)
- Factory (+50%)
- Iron Works (+100%)

I wonder their it goes with Hooverdam and Manufactory plant. :D

I think you're missing something. I count 40 shields and +225% from buildings, which would only give 130 shields.

Also, why are you working the polluted tile instead of just having that citizen be a specialist? The polluted tile produces nothing.

possibly because the stack of workers will clean the pollution in this turn .

Exactly. Also I tend to forget sending citizens back to work once the pollution is cleaned. ;)

Just checked Choxorns answer, their were no more production buildings in Madrid, but in the editor Iron Works is set to production 8, while the Factory has got only 2. I was pretty sure that I did not mixed Iron works up.

That answers my question.

Ironworks gives 200%. A bit overpowering don't you think.
Believe me or not: I am the same opinion. ;)

The overpower was not intentional, as I was pretty sure, that I did edit only its pollution and not its production quote. 4 should give me the normal 100% back.

But I will have to make sure to liberate Madrid as fast as possible then playing the RAZ Earth in the future, as it is a very effective city location.

The starting location Random Number Generator has never been known for even-handedness, although it does apparently know through it "crystal ball" programming exactly where future resources will be located, However, in working with Gojira's PangaeaUltima map, the AI outdid itself.

In the first one, there are actually a total of 5 volcanoes in the immediate area of the starting position. While this location is going to be great for shields, it is a bit lacking in food, between the mountains, hills, and jungle.

In the second one, there is a very similar situation, with essentially no food resources. This is the same map, by the way. These two locations were so bad that I took pity on the poor AI and moved them to better spots.

Then, a little bit to the Southwest of the second location, you have the third picture, which I have dubbed "Whaler's Heaven". I have three different types of whales on the maps, the standard variety, the Right Whale for Seas and Oceans appearing with Feudalism, and the Sperm Whale of the Coasts, Seas, and Oceans, appearing with Navigation. About all the whales in the picture are Sperm Whales, so once Navigation is learned, a city in that area is going to be a big boost in shields production, along with food and commerce.

Hi Timerover,

my attempts to use the autoplacing of the editor on that map, created each time several start locations in the middle of the desert. Any sorry settler would have requiered 10 - 15 rounds before even reaching habitable land... ;)

Hmm, I have not had that problem at all. No starting locations in the desert as I have unchecked the Allow Cities box under Desert, nor any in the Jungle. I may allow for Cities in the Forest, as that may avoid some of the very odd locations that I am getting. I may spend some time tomorrow generating maps and seeing what I get. It may also be the different in computers, as I am using the Game Editor unless Parallels on my Mac Laptop with Windows XP. I have discovered that there is a difference in results if I use the same maps settings and same random seed number between the Editor on my Mac using Parallels and Windows XP, and using the Editor on a Windows laptop under Windows 7. I assume that is due to the respective Random Number Generators.

In my game cities are too not allowed in tundra, desert, marsh, mountains, vulcanos (only a fool or a AI would build there ;) ) and Mountains.

But that did not stop the editor under Windows XP to autoplace starting locations in desert or jungles. Maybe it is hardcoded?

We might want to continue this discussion in the thread on the map. I will respond there after running some more tests this weekend. I need to hook up my laptop to an external monitor if I am on the editor a lot. I will also check it under Windows 7 on my Windows laptop.

I feel slightly under pressure.

The Romans are really serious about the siege of Pompeii.

Fortunatly I have got 9 Battleships, 5 Cruiser of various size, 2 Destroyers, 2 Carriers, 2 Ironclads and 5 Frigates next to the city.

Oh, and and in Pompeii itself are 2 Armies, some Infantry and about 20 Tanks and Cavalry... :D

Two rounds after this picture was taken it became quite peaceful around Pompeii. ;)

I see that you are a firm believer in overkill. I go with using a pile driver to crack a walnut. I might end up with walnut butter, but I do crack the walnut.

And I never use nukes.

Manhattan Project is by the way now a large wonder, that makes the people in its city unhappy, makes lots of pollution and can meltdown. Even the KI rarely builds it. ;)

As a interesting fact of the current game I had got 6 out of 9 horses and 2 out of 3 camels before the first war started (I did not start a single war on my own). Now I have a monopol on horses, while the Egypts are the only AI with camels... :D

Portuguese slave factory. I would just take them over, but their vote is just as valuable as a civ with 100 cities.

How do you enslave the workers if you're surrounding the city?

He waits for them to make the workers, then buys them in the trade screen.
