I genenrated supposedly challnging pangea map for the Byzantines (monarch level) but what I got:
All horses in the world are in my core.
Of the 4 Iron 2 are in my core, 3rd is in the unpopulated westren peninsula on only the last are available to the AI.
Of the 3 AI generated 2 are buried in the eastren jungles and the 3rd is severly limited by mountains. All AI are crammed in the eastre part of the continent.
Ivory is located in a place only Byzantium can reach: to the west of my core so SoZ is constructed by me.
The computer asked me for conquest/dom victory and got it fast...
shown: Byzantine core with all the horses, 2 luxuries, Iron and a volcano that never bothered to erupt and former Indian core

That was on an earth map. Arabia had started in eastern US, I had started in central US and taken them over, and I didn't feel like going all the way up to Northern Canada to destroy their last city, Khurasan.
And they would not give in with the surrender message.

Civs don't usually surrender unless your units are right on their doorstep. If you're on the other side of the globe, they carry a little more confidence.

As to your first screen: maybe his map shows the rest of the world? ha ha

You have to assume that 1 2=12, in English "the sequence 'one, two' equals twelve", and the like. Skype can't tell the difference, but I feel sure you can.
