Interesting Screenshots

This is PTW, Deity, Tiny & Small amount of land :-) After playing pangea, I wanted an Island on my own, but found myself in a micropangea game. I thought it would be an exciting challenge, but was defeated by Korea before Koyto hit 3 in population :-(

Shoot. That would have been an interesting game too.

That must be it. I have Windows XP.

Hmmm...I just tried, and I have Windows 7. No show. There are some nifty resources in the area, though. I just don't like plains...methinks this could be a good map for me if I changed a fair amount of squares to grassland...

But, then there wouldn't be ivory. Though you could change it to allow ivory on grasslands... :mischief:

Sounds like a couple of well placed forests would do the trick! :)

Here's one I hadn't seen, from a multiplayer game that I'm working on with my daughter:

if you are in desperate need for one, i could borrow you a worker so that you actually have 0 of them

I had an interesting thing happen but I don't have a screenprint. Here is why - my game seemed to freeze in the middle of playing (I was toggling between word, excel and PTW to keep notes on my progress) and the entire board was black except for the units. I thought it was an interesting 'nightshot', so I tried to capture it. When I went to paint, all that carried over was "god". Just that word. No picture. I went back and did it again. Same result. I went back a 3rd time and the world had turned back to normal. Presumably, whatever process that was causing the lag in the background (autosave on word or excel, perhaps?) finished and the game continued.

Now I don't think my laptop is a burning bush. Not sure why this screen shot translated into 'god'. Is this because the screen was stuck in a 'god view' built into the system?

You probably have a virus, mate.

All black except for the units? I remember I launched a spaceship, and that happened. However, I didn't try to take a screenshot, cause I thought it was part of the game back in the day.

Don't remember any other details though. I quit playing after I won.

I think he's saying all he saw was the word "god".

Correct, just the word "god", I don't recall now if it was god or GOD. But it was just the words - as if that was the entire picture and it was small, just filing the upper left-hand corner of the paint window - no bigger than the characters you see on the forum.

I guess it is possible that it was a virus, but I have several protections in place and it has not happened since. Everything is working fine. Well, that's not true - Word 2007 + Vista has been a pain since day one. But it is not working any worse then usual - how is that for a Vista plug?

Yes - the background was all black, but the units were visible and in color in their places on the map where they were supposed to be. I believe the minimap was also visible as was the status bar in the lower right corner. I do not remember if the unit 'animations' were on or if the units were moving. I do not remember seeing any of them move. My initial thought was - hey, my units are as much in the dark as I usually am! But I could not capture the moment . . .

I've seen a similar error several times, no virus, just a glitch.

I seem to have just bad luck with the RNG in any number of ways. The mini map shows my territory on a small map. I am the Iros in purple and there was not a single horse resourse in my territory. I was so busy playing the game and expanding like mad (love that aggie trait) that I did not realize until I was nearing Chivalry that I had not built a single MW. So I went to fix that and discovered that I could not build any - not a horse anywhere.

I scrambled to steal a horse by aggressive settling in Carthage land and got one - just.

That one in Carthage, which would be that other half of the world, was the closest one there was and I think there were only 4 on that side of the world. Well, yeah... I did own them all in short order:mischief:

Historically accurate, as Americaland did not have horses that indians could ride on before they got few horsies from conquerors.

But why "god"?

That's what I was wondering? I thought maybe the game was stuck in a "god's view" and that is what the print screen captured instead, like it was reading some programming script or something. :dunno:

I wasn't typing anything or copy/pasting anything that would have been picked up instead and I tried twice and got the same result.

There is no god view in Civ3, just Civ 4. This is why I'm thinking it was a virus. Unless he was playing a mod.

(almost typed "laying a mod" )

EDIT: 800th post. Yay.
