Interesting Times - The AI Side of RFC

I'm just joking because I haven't read your story yet and I have to go through 13 pages! :D

Welcome back!

When we last left off, the Carthaginians continued their fight with the barbarians, the Spanish scored a victory against the Portuguese by retaking Cadiz, and the Turks apparently forgot that unarmed settlers aren't supposed to be on the front lines of a war. :p Now on to today's action!

We'll start on turn 237, where the Turks continue to do... strange things in Egypt. The first thing they did isn't so wierd, capturing the former Egyptian capital (later barb city) of Niwt-Rst, now called Luksor. However, the settler settled to the SW of Luksor, founding... Abu Simbel?
28tg.png

 Why settle there? I've never seen anyone settle on that spot before, not even the Egyptians! Has anyone else seen the Turks of all people settle a city there before? Tell me in the comments if you have.

Anyway, on to turn 238, we have nothing except the revolt in Luksor ending. Now Luksor's culture is overwhelming San-el Hagar's, and almost half of the townspeople want to join the Turks.

Turn 239: You know how I just mentioned that the people of San-el Hagar (Djanet) want to join the Turks? Well...
43f.png

Things have a tendency to move fast when the Turks are involved, huh? In any case, Egypt has been united for the first time since the barbs took Egypt's capital - too bad Egypt is now under Turkish rule instead of their own.

Turn 240:

Turn 241: Yeah!
u30u.png

I choose replaceable parts as my free tech.

Hey, remember the Persians? Remember how they have almost done nothing ever since the Arabs arrived? Well, they finally did something - they settled Binkath in central Asia:

286y.png

Not much, but at least they did something.

Turn 242: Oh, boy.
k4q.png

Once again, India's instability comes back to bite them hard. With Hyderabad now independent, this is India's third city lost to instability (the other two were Lhasa, now owned by China, and Yangon, now owned by the Khmer), and is their second oldest city. This is looking very bad for India, which seems to be in a downward spiral.

Also, I will tell you all one thing interesting: it is now 1455 in the game, and the Roman Empire still exists. Meaning that, despite all of the hardships the Romans have been through in this game (bad luck against the Celts, nearly being wiped out by the barbs, losing a city to the rising French), the Roman Empire has outlasted it's real-life counterpart (which ended in 1453). :woohoo: As a side note, the Carthaginians have also outlasted their real-life counterpart (who as everyone should know, were wiped out by Rome itself).

Turn 243: Again,

Turn 244: The Mali have decided to expand again, founding coastal Awlil:
c9bj.png

...Yeah, that city will last a real long time. Tally up another one for the barbs!

Also, the Russians have settled Aktijubinsk:
wiyo.png

Now how do you pronounce that again?

And with that, I'm going to end it here. Next time, we'll see if the instability of China and India will continue to rear its ugly head, and we'll watch Awlil be flattened under the giant feet of barbarian war elephants. :D Stay tuned!

looks like the immortal buddhist elephants live on :D

The Barbs are going to burn another city.

Welcome back, civvers!

When we last left off, the Ottomans took full control of Egypt, the Indians lost their second oldest city, Hyderabad, to instability, and the Malinese founded Awlil, only for the city to be undefended and surrounded by barbs. :shake: And now onto today's action!

We start on turn 245, where the barbs start out by destroying...
8blx.png

What!? Well, the Malinese caught an enormous break here. Apparently they already had slavery enabled, must of slaughtered everyone in Awlil to train a unit of skirmishers, and the skirmishers managed to defeat both barb war elephants. I'm calling this one the Awlil Miracle.

In other news, the Khmer have expanded off of the Asian mainland, settling the city of Jayakarta on the island of Java:
hreu.png

Turn 246: Oh, no!!
gd57.png

:( And that's another nation down. Four nations have now fallen - Egypt and Ethiopia fell at the same time, overwhelmed by barbs and natives, Babylon fell a few turns ago to the Turks, and now the Indian's own instability destroyed India. If there's any bright side about this, at least now Persia has a chance to prove itself on the battlefield.

Elsewhere, the Inca have settled their fourth city, Chan-Chan, to the south of the ruins of the native city of Tucume:
xcse.png

With no natives from Tucume to bother them, the Inca aren't doing too badly. If only they didn't have that nasty plague to deal with...

Turn 247: The Vikings expand into Finland for the first time, settling Vasa in Finnish Lapland, right on the border with Germany:
w9c0.png

Of course, now the Germans are going to be even more pissed off at the Vikings than they already are. German-Viking war, anybody? :D

Turn 248: Nothing.

Turn 249: The Mongols begin expanding to the west, founding the city of Karamay:
aq1u.png

Meanwhile, the Turks are having some problems in Egypt:
h4hv.png

Remember the city of Abu Simbel, to the SW of Luksor? Yeah, it's gone. I don't know who did it (as whoever did it is dead, courtesy of some Turkish Janissaries), but even with the Turks in charge, Egypt simply isn't getting any peace.

Also for this turn, another new native city has jumped up, this time Mbanza Kongo on Africa's western shores:
vizu.png

Turn 250: Nothing happened this turn, but take a look at this picture of the Mayans:
b6c.png

Ouch. The plague has absolutely crippled the Mayans, who, despite having four cities, only have three units to defend themselves with (two of the units in Oaxaca are galleys). The Aztecs don't have the plague atm, so they have declared war on the Mayans, ready to take advantage of this.

And with that, it's time for this update to end. I did play one more turn to get to 1500, but nothing happened. Next time, we'll see if the Mayans can withstand the Aztecs' assault while they're still crippled by plague (about the plague, I don't think this is the smallpox plague, as there are no Europeans in the New World, not even boats. I think they just got unlucky and happened to catch one of the other plagues), and we'll see if any nation tries to take advantage of the situation in the now splintered India. Stay tuned!

well, it sort of makes sense for the mayans to have a plague, they DID have a massive series of famine and diseases in their final days(in which they tried to save themselves by sacrificing babies to the gods)

I know, I was just trying to be dramatic. :p

Yeah.

Did the same in my recent Egypt story where a warrior beat 2 Hulugannis at once and then I called him Enkidu (because he was trained in Babilû). But in the end, that was the same reason as Awlil miracle.

BTW, just voted 5 stars for ya thread.

Welcome back!

When we last left off, India collapsed, and Egypt once again came under attack - probably by natives or barbs. And now onto today's action!

Note: As it is late, this is going to be a short update. And a warning for those who like my update pace - I probably won't have the time to make as many updates now because tomorrow I start college, and I have no idea how much time college will take out of my schedule. Until I get accustomed to college and get a feel for how much free time I'll have, the number of updates will almost certainly go down. All right, now let's get on to the good stuff! :D

We'll start on turn 253 (1510 A.D.). Nothing happened on turn 252.

Scratch that. Nothing happened on this turn, either.

Turn 254: NO!
ab0f.png

Well, this update went from boring to interesting in a hurry! Of course, this leaves the road open for Mongolia to become ultra strong (as you probably know, Mongolia pretty much needs China to become a really strong nation). China's collapse leaves the Khmer as the last nation in Southern Asia, and the collapse had the interesting side effect of leaving Qingdao with 40% Japanese people.

Turn 255: A pro-Japanese revolt has broken out in Qingdao. :D

Also, the Russians have founded the city of Ekaterinburg in the Ural Mountains:
juz9.png

Turn 256: I somehow meet the Dutch, and agree to peace (trying not to go to war, remember?)
rq7d.png

I also make a small tech deal with the Romans, getting Divine Right for Philosophy and some gold.

Turn 257: A few developments in the Aztecs' land:
vxms.png

As you can see, the Aztecs have settled their third city, Coyuca. However, all is not well in Mexico, as the dreaded plague (this time, it's probably smallpox) has ravaged the Aztecs, and now the Portuguese have landed and have gotten the conqueror's event. Things have suddenly gone from looking up for the Aztecs to looking very grave indeed.

Turn 258: No border changes, but the Portuguese siege of the Aztec capital continues.

Turn 259: For the first time in seemingly forever, I expand my own nation, founding my seventh city, Davao, in the Philippines:
znu5.png

Turn 260: Suryavarman asks to trade world maps. When I ask to negotiate, I ask him (not demand, we're friends) to simply give his to me for free; he agrees.

The Portuguese capture the Aztec capital:
9niy.png

Say your prayers, Montezuma, as Joao's men are about to gun you down.

Finally for this update, the Dutch have founded their first colony, founding Winburg in South Africa:
rkza.png

And that's it for this update! One question before I go: the former Chinese city of Qingdao has a rather large chance of defecting to me due to its proximity to Japanese Korea (Seoul has been turned into a cultural powerhouse, what with two great artists staying there). If Qingdao does end up defecting to me, what should I do with it - keep it or let it go (razing it in the process)? I'll leave the decision up to you guys if this does come to pass. Also, as I said, the rate of new updates is going to go down for a while, at least, due to college starting up. What can you do? In any case, see you later, and as always, stay tuned!

good update :goodjob:

Keep it. Expand the Japanese Empire!!

The Vikings expand into Finland for the first time, settling Vasa in Finnish Lapland
Spoiler :
Finland is going to get raped by vikings/germans and russians
Spoiler :
Like it happened irl

Subbed, this stuff is interesting.. :)
