Interesting Times - The AI Side of RFC

Welcome Back!

When we last left off, the Romans were preparing to pwn the Celts, as the Celts found the city of Lugodunon. Meanwhile, the Babylonians and Persians start a war, though each side seems more interested in capturing independent cities. Also, Japan (my nation) meets China and sets up an open borders agreement. Now that the boring intro is out of the way, let's get into the (so-called) action! :D

We start out with a pair of city foundings on turn 106: the Indians found Dhaka...

...while the Celts found Burdigala:

Lugodunon, meanwhile, has survived into its third turn. We'll see how correct you are, Tambien!

Turn 107: We finally see Ethiopia arrive!
lf0.png

As a side note, that has got to be the worst possible spot to spawn a work boat in history. It can't even get to the fish!

Turn 108: Nothing. Don't these idiots know that there is a war going on! There should be action, gore, something! :ar15:

Turn 109: Yes! Here we go!
39rr.png

We get a barb invasion to mix things up. With only one unit defending Ninua, this does not bode well for Babylonia. Unless, of course, this one unit can perform a repeat of that archer that single-handedly took on a barb horde from METY's Rome story. :D
In all seriousness, though, Ninua is lucky that a mountain separates it from the barb horde. Now the barbs must go the long route, giving Babylon time to prepere.

P.S. Lugodunon has survived into its 6th turn, and now is defended by some warriors. You lose, Tambien! :p

Turn 110: First off, we get calendar! And the date is...
lm0u.png

210 B.C., huh? We're not too far from the Mayan spawn date.
Also, we see the Ethiopians settle Bonga:

Take away the "a", and we get a device that a certain Jamaican probably uses a lot in Grand Theft Auto IV (I love that game :D)

That's it for now. Will the barbs destroy Babylon, or will the Babylonians hold out? Will the Romans get off their lazy butts and do something about the Celts to their west? Will I be punished for my unfortunate drug joke? Find out next time! :D (If I'm still here... :hide:)

Subbed.

The story you've all been waiting for (for 5 seconds) has returned!

Before we continue with the story, I'll start with a little event that happened back on turn 109 (we're on turn 111 now) - the founding of the Egyptian city of Per-Wadjet:
ib6.png

Don't ask me how I missed that. I just didn't see it when I going over the map last time.

Anyway, on to the present. But, the present has proven to be boring, as the only thing that happened on turn 111 (190 B.C.) was the barb horde moving closer to Ninua. Looks like they will get there in four turns. Better hurry, Babylon!

Turn 112: And the barbs come marching in...
m3q5.png

Just three turns away, now.

Turn 113: Well, Lugodunon has reached its 10th turn of existence, and Rome is still not doing anything about it. And I just found out why, as we come to the AI's first boneheaded move of the game:
m6aw.png

All of their offensive units are busy exploring or chasing down that Celtic Warrior that was in Russia a few turns ago!

Another development:

Babylon and Persia finally decided to call off their war (of name-calling, apparently), but in its place, the Punic Wars have begun! Of course, since Rome and Carthage are separated by the Mediterranean, this war will probably have as much action as our previous war. But we'll just have to see.

Turn 114: Well, it appears I was wrong!
qa7c.png

Huh. Instead of attacking Ninua, it appears that the barb's true target is somewhere in Persia. Well, it may take a little longer for the fighting to begin, but at least this makes things more interesting.

Turn 115: Now the barbs are heading east and are no longer in Persia. Where the heck are they going, China?

Turn 116: The barbs continue to head east, and I still don't know what their game is. I've decided to only tell what is going on when I finally figure out where they are going. I will say, however, that a couple of barb horse archers have spawned north of the SOD, dangerously near Samarkand.

On to more interesting matters:

Looks like Rome has finally gotten around to attacking Lugodunon! It took 13 turns, but they finally remembered that the Celts are their enemies. The lone Praet attacking just finished exploring Iberia.

All right, I'll end it there for suspense! :D Will Rome finally capture Lugodunon? Will Rome and Carthage actually do some fighting? And of course, the big question: where in the world (literally :p) are those barbs going? Tune in next time!

it would be ironic if the barbs went all the way east, boarded a galley, and went to japan

You should build a city in Korea and gift it to Rome. That would be fun.

You should build a city in Korea and gift it to Rome. That would be fun.

With the stupidity Rome has been showing so far, they would probably collapse within a turn. And besides, I'm planning to conquer Korea myself (my one offensive war). Gotta get some action for me, right?

P.S. Starting the next update now.

And we are back! (I'm running out of intros. This doesn't bode well... :D)

When we last met, the Romans were about to assault the city of Lugodunon (finally) and went to war with Carthage. Meanwhile, a large barbarian horde which was initially thought to be heading for Babylon is now heading east to an as-of-yet undetermined location.

We start with turn 117. The only things of importance happening here were the Babylonian founding of Artaxata:
pgl8.png

And the first of (presumably 2) battles for Lugodunon. Praets vs warriors? Not a contest.

Turn 118: Like I said, not a co- Holy crap, did that warrior just take out a Praet?
x3lp.png

 That wasn't even a Gallic Warrior! It was a regular, 2 strength warrior, and he just took down a full strength Praet! Give that guy a medal!

On a slightly less amazing note, we see Japan settle the city of Nagasaki:
8hd.png

Great, now we have to watch out for both Godzilla and atomic bombs. :nuke:

Also, we find that the Mayans have finally spawned, and have founded their capital of Tikal:
z7gi.png

And that means that 2012 is just around the corner... in 2042 years.
Meanwhile, that barb horde continues to head east. Where in the world are they going?

Turn 120: The Celts found the city of Lutetia in the location of what will be Paris:
1f9s.png

At this rate, the French aren't going to be inheriting a whole lot of Roman architecture when they arrive, now will they? Of course, it would be awesome if they inherited a Gallic Warrior or two. :D

Meanwhile, the Koreans founded the city of Seoul:
5l61.png

Onward, men! We need to get to that city before the Chinese or (gasp!) Persians do! Don't you soldiers have some worth?
Then again, it would help if I had a ship to bring my soldiers into Korea.

And that's it for another update. Next time, we'll see if Rome can recover from their embarrassing defeat at Lugodunon, while we see Japan try to prevent the same thing from happening in Korea. Meanwhile, we'll (hopefully) figure out where that barb horde is headed (looks like India at this point), all while watching the B.C. era give way to the A.D. era. Stay tuned!

Meanwhile, that barb horde continues to head east. Where in the world are they going?

I hope I didn't jinx you :mischief:

lol, just played a (rather short) game as the celts, 3 turns after i complete stonehenge, a barb walks RIGHT UP to my undefended capital, you can guess what happened...[pissed][pissed][pissed]

So of course, that begs the question: why did you leave your capital undefended?

for some reason i decided to build stonehenge right away... i don't quite know why, derp :crazyeye:

in retrospect it was rather idiotic, last time i decide to start building a wonder on turn 0

i don't even know WHY i was the celts in general, i hate their unique unit and building, it probably was boudicca's unique traits :mischief:
