I am in favor of an Isthmus build to block the leader from using the land bridge. I personally favor the southern, desert site becuase it is a) closer and b) provides a cannal that I think will be important later.

While I do like the northern site, it doesn't allow us to cross teh isthmus with our future, glorious navy, it makes the southern site less desirable by taking some productive tiles, and we would have to plant another city further north on the isthmus to get the cannal - an option that politics may not allow in the future.

So, I say plant it on site '2' or go further norht on the Isthmus and get the Ivory and a cannal right now.

After looking at it, I have to say that I like settling a bit closer at the Cornwine spot. It is 2 moves away, as opposed to 6 moves, and can be brought up to speed quickly with the corn and can get another worker out. The isthmus city needs a workboat to have any food at all, and that wont be out for a long time.

Wines arent so handy what with us adopting Hered Rule but it can be cottaged for a pretty nice commerce boost.

Leader has to trek through a lot of jungle just from what we can see, and bypass a number of good tiles to get to an isthmus block. A city there would also be a hit to their economy for a long time until they get CoL. I think we have some time to get there; a galley would make transporting up there a bit easier. Cornwine has forest to chop as well to get another settler out.

Both arguments are good ones, but on balance I prefer killer's solution, though that one could be fulfilled my pulling a settler from Hamburger as well.

One quibble with killer's statement about the wines - if we adopt Hereditary Rule that means we have learned Monarchy which brings with it Vineyards. And a vineyard has both a food and commerce component. I concur however that putting in a cottage until we have Monarchy in hand is a good way to get a commerce kicker for a Financial nation.

I must admit that I do not know the best way to handle the wines for maximum long term benefit in the current situation. The 2 extra food (from a winery) would allow for working more cottages on the grass. The Nerdy Economists can sort that out I hope (I'm looking at YOU Whomp).

Another random idea is a work boat out of Hamburger to find someone else via sea. It can mosy around for a few turns and then harvest that Fish when we get Conroe's isthmus city down so that it can grow more quickly. Maybe send him NW and around or something and then come back around. I dont know if this is of great benefit, but might be handy if the logistics can be worked. Are we on a snaky 'pelago or do we know?

WE have this peace agreement with The Leader.

Here is the official note stating that it is in effect

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to mention this, but do we need to reconfigure Balderdash for max commerce with this deal in place? For some reason, I was thinking the Leader already had writing researched. If so, they have a big jump on us. I'm not sure how much production that we want to sacrifice, but we have no access to Writing and Libraries until we consummate this deal.

It's the right thread for it Conroe (I think!). I would do the same, as soon as we get our settler done. I'm in agreement that the Leader most likely has Writing: I think it's been mentioned that we can Open Borders.

Any thread is the correct one. That's the great thing about anarchy. we do try to keep it mildly organized though.

and I also agree.

As for the warrior popping the hut, I'm not sure we could afford to lose him if it's barbs.... maybe let him heal first?

I agree with Sweet.
He's highly promoted (3) and we'll probably want to upgrade him at some point so losing him would be a bigger negative than acquiring a tech we might not be able to use right away.

Do we know what the cheapest tech on the board is?

Did we ever arrive at a final decision on where the Settler is supposed to go? And, what are we building next? I would vote for another Settler. Possibly an MP, if we don't have enough.

I think the consensus was swinging to planting the settler near the wines for commercial purposes (I was still for the Isthmus) to stay apace/overtake the Leader.

I would love another settler to block the Isthmus, but I don't know that we have enough workers to really utilize it, it may just be a drag on our upkeep for the time being.

I'm okay with a lighthouse, but we will probably have to jump back to settler/MP before we go for the Great Lighthouse.

I think lighthouse would only take 6 turns so that would make sense.

What about workers? Timing should be good to move the Balderdash worker towards the copper and pigs.

Both warriors to the west should be close to full strength. One will be 1.8 and the 3 promo one next to the hut will be 1.6. I think our 1.8 should head west again. It seems logical that someone is to our west.

Does Balderdash have the moaxie to build the Great Lighthouse? If not it should be able to take over the settler/worker/MP jobs.

Balderdash has a lot of potential production wise. There's another hill that needs to be mined so after finishing the current job that is probably a better task.

I think that we should go for the GLH.. it does help with income. the regular lighthouse is needed for that and gives +1 :food: so it would help us grow quicker as well

The settler is heading out... to where? I think the spot near the bend of the isthmus that grabs the fish is best... we do need a "canal" city, but surely this can come later?

After the warrior in Balderdash, we can build a lighthouse - needed for GLH - or a granary.. maybe we should whip one of these 2 buildings, or both, before the GLH?

A little discussion before the save is played regarding the settler would be helpful.

it would be nice if there was a barb city up by the Leader :D.. is there a pic of the latest land?

I've always liked that spot and it would give us a solid 3rd city.
