As the US government continued the debate on what should be done about the Ottoman occupation of Songhai territory, the US army stood ready to respond to any orders.
But the American people were weary and tired of always being in a war somewhere. And with the end of the Aztec War in sight, American citizens objected to starting any new wars. The US government also did not want a war, as it was not sure how a war with the Fascist Superpower would turn out.Eventually, the US government decided not to do anything about the Ottoman occupation, at least for now.But the US still kept a large military force on the northern continent for defense and just in case the US ever decided to drive out the Ottoman occupation.
Still, though, relations between the US and the Ottomans remained strained. And some considered the successful Ottoman occupation of the Songhai to be a defeat for America in the "Cold War" between the two superpowers.
Yet some Americans wondered if peace with the Ottomans could be continued forever. Some Americans thought that one day the Ottomans would eventually try to avenge it's losses from the first war it had with the US so many years ago.
Some Americans also considered the chance that the Ottomans might try to gain Siamese support if they ever attacked the US again, and open up another front against the US.Although not considered a superpower, the Siamese were by no means weak. And both the Ottomans and the Siamese had suffered losses from America. The Ottomans had lost one of their cities in their long ago war with the US, and the Siamese had suffered an outright defeat and the loss of alot of their land to the US.Although different in ideology, both nations shared a dislike of and desire for revenge on America, something that some Americans feared might eventually cause a deadly war on two different fronts.
And in the Aztec War, American forces, no longer distracted by the thought of leaving to fight the Ottomans, continued their offensive, this time attacking the former Persian Capital of Persepolis.
The Aztec defenders would not give in easily, but eventually, after a long siege, the city finally fell.
The US also began engaging in profitable trading with the New Persian State.
And the whole military campaign that the American army was now performing had to do with Persia. The US was fairly certain that if the war with the Aztecs ended, that the Aztecs would not recognize the independence of Persia, and that they might just conquer it again. To prevent this from happening, the US determined that what would probably be the final campaign of the war, would be a push to create a buffer zone between the Aztecs and Persia.
After the victory at Persepolis, the American forces battled the remaining Aztec troops near the city, and prepared for the final push to Bactra.
American citizens watched the news eagerly in anticipation of American victory and perhaps years of peace for America in the future....
