Ionut's Civs

Quick question: Are the new civs going to be modular?

Yup all the civs I have created since BtS was released are modular. ( I think I have said this before several times :mischief:  ) If they weren't I would be cranking out a new civ every day! :goodjob: Damn modular code takes to long to assemble. :( But the end benefits are worth it!

( I think I have said this before several times :mischief:  )

Cool, and I'm sorry about asking questions that have already been answered, a bit of laziness on my part :mischief:

Well it has been a busy couple of weeks for me with these civs, from the 12 that are currently in open release for 3.13 I have added another 6. ( 2 are already released but required [as all my civs did] updating to 3.13) Unfortunately I am not going to tell you who these civs are. I want to surprise you all! However here are some screen shots for you all to look at and try to guess who they are and or who they belong too!

I guess the top leaderheads belong to the Sweboz civ. Though I hardly recognise them:lol:.

Can't wait to play to be honest:) (Hopefully I'll get my game fixed by then:( )

Yes you are correct they are from the Sweboz. They are your original leaderhead I just tweaked them alittle.;)

nope, with the 3.03 patch. A quick fix to make it work would be to delete the 50 civs .dll and the .ini file and ini backup file. Then reload the mod. This should create a new .ini file. It will not be set to modular loading so you will need to go back into the mod folder and open up the .ini file and file the modular loading tags. Change that from 0 to 1. Then try to reload the mod, if everything is done right should work.

Well as I said before its been a huge week for me here getting these civs up and running. Another 6 are done and dusted (2 short of my target of 8 for the week:sad: ). Thanks must go out to WYZ and Woodelf for the help they have given me this week with flags and modeling.

Well its been nearly a month since I last posted an update. Work has slowed down quite a bit, but still has moved forward. A couple of new civs have been added, as well as a ton of new Graphics have either been added as completely new units or updates of existing ones. Plus several leaderheads have either been finished or created from scratch. Mostly this pause has been to allow certain contributors time to catch up with my work so far and I not have so many semi completed civs in the game. ( It gets annoying looking at all those Australian flags! ) Hopefully I can get back in it in the next couple of weeks and be back at full steam as soon as possible.

Well bad news every one. I'm retiring again!

Spoiler :
:lol::lol: ONLY KIDDING!!:lol::lol:

Seriously, this mod did get set back seriously today though. As my computer finally blew a gasket when the Video card cooked itself. Fortunately I was able to save the vast majority of the mods I am working on, so the damage has been minimal. But it will be a month and a half before I can get it up and running again. So any further modding from me is just not going to happen unfortunately in the next month or so. I'mnot overly happy about it, I wanted it released in the next few days or so, but that wil not happen any more:sad:

O no! ...wait a minute...spoiler?... :p ....what?... :badcomp:

Currently no. There is an easy work around though to fix the current version to work with the BtS 3.13 patch.

-First step is to open up the folder this mod is saved to.
-Delete the 50civs.dll
-Then delete the Ionut'sCivilizations.ini
- Load the mod.
- Right now nothing will load properly don't worry this is normal. Just close the game.
- This now has created a new .ini in the 3.3 format ( or at least it should have) open this .ini up
- Now scroll down to the modular loading tags. it should read = 0 . change this to = 1
- Save and reload the mod. If all is done correctly then it should work properly.

@Fierabras:
Yea Im not gone for good, just taking my sweet ass time repairing my computer. I'm thinking of upgrading the card while I'm at it so I could be another 2 more months atleast, before I'm back in the modding scene.

You actually did give me a scare, because I was very happy when you returned the last time and started working again on EBCIV, which I still eagerly await. Take your time, I have patience and make sure you get a good video card, i.e. not an ATI one ;)

Well I can safely say I'm not going away.;) But if I fix my card it will be atleast 1 and a half months before I'm up and running. However I'm leaning towards replacing the system entirely because it is not that much more expensive.:D The only problem I see from your recommendation is that it has a 256mb ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 graphics card. Any comments as to its quality? I have done some reading on the product and it seems to be a middle of the pack card in the current generation of HD cards, but honestly I have no idea about whats what when it comes to graphics cards.

I'm mostly clueless when it comes to hardware, so I can't give you a real recommendation. The people I know (through the WoC project) that do know what they are talking about have told me that a NVidia card is better for playing CIV. I would suggest you send a PM to TAFireHawk. He's an expert on these matters and maybe he is willing to help you out.

Ok, just contacted the team in the chat room. Not sure if this is helpful but see the quote below:

(12:58 AM) Fierabras: ok, well, he is going to buy a new graphics card and he is thinking of buying: 256mb ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 graphics card.
(12:58 AM) Fierabras: is that any good?
(12:58 AM) civ_mamba: it's ok
(12:58 AM) Adam: i don't keep up on ATI crap
(12:58 AM) civ_mamba: I would (and actually do) wait for the 4850
(12:58 AM) Fierabras: aha, so all ATI is bad?
(12:59 AM) Adam: i just got a new 9600 with silent cooling
(12:59 AM) civ_mamba: not all, they are catching up again
(12:59 AM) Fierabras: that's what Aranor said as well
(12:59 AM) civ_mamba: currently I would pick ati over nvidia
(12:59 AM) civ_mamba: a year ago I would have chosen nvidia
(12:59 AM) Adam: i don't think the gaming companies are switching....
(1:00 AM) civ_mamba: nvidia currently makes all these huge cards which take up 2 slots, use a lot of energy are hot and noisy
(1:00 AM) civ_mamba: ati simply is better in that regard
(1:00 AM) Adam: but dunno if directx10 favors one or the other
(1:00 AM) civ_mamba: 10.1 favors ati
(1:00 AM) Adam: mine is 0dB
(1:00 AM) civ_mamba: nvidia does not support it

I think they both know what they are talking about (Adam = TAFireHawk, civ_mamba = Mamba)

Thanks for that, they basically have confirmed what I had already assumed.

For the record, The ATI card is in the new system, the one I would replace would be a 512mb NVidia Geforce GO 6800. To get the damn thing baught and installed properly its going to cost me about 1000$ give or take, the new system would only cost me 1300$ more so I'm leaning in that direction. I'm going to give dell a call later today and get some more information of the Notebook and a final quote for the Card, and then work from there, depending on how it goes, I could be back in action in a month or so or if I buy a new system I will be back in 2 to 3 months.
