IOT Developmental Thread

I'm working on an IOT which takes place in the Western Indian ocean, I have a map and a significant concept part of rules already.

Spoiler Part of Rules :
Provinces and Regions
A Region corresponds with a modern country's borders and is marked with a WHITE LINE. A Province is marked with a black line. This accounts for Naval Regions too.
Government choice
You can't choose any old government just for the sake of it - different provinces allow different governments. For example, all Iraq's provinces allow dictatorships and anarchistic states. The whole of India and Pakistan allows democracies. Somalia allows anarchistic states, but a few provinces in Somaliland allow democracies.
Kinds of Government and some pros and cons
Anarchistic State: You have no real government, everyone in the nation is at war with everyone in the nation. Pros: 1 extra army at start, 1 army every turn. Cons: Defcon doesn't matter as everyone may try and restore order, constant rebellion.
Democracies: A rare sight in the Western Indian Ocean area. Voting is allowed. Pros: US support: at war means 1 army every turn. Can build battleships and Jet fighters. Cons: No US support if fighting Democracies or Anarchistic States - the Democracies should be on your side and the US is busy with the anarchists. Armies half in size.
Dictatorships: you lead your nation, probably with some US support. Pros: light US support: 1 Extra gold every turn, 1 1/2 extra if fighting anarchists. Can claim 4 provinces. Cons: Rebellions more often. Can only form alliance with other Dictatorships.
Rebellions
every turn, there is a 4 in 10 chance of rebellion in democracies, a 5 in 10 chance of rebellion in dictatorships and a 9 in ten chance of rebellion in Anarchistic states. If a rebellion occupies all your provinces you will lose 10% income for the next turn. There will be a 5 in 10 chance your government changes from Anarchistic state to Dictatorship and vice versa, a 2 in ten chance a Democracy changes to an Anarchistic State and vice versa, and a 3 in ten chance a Dictatorship becomes democratic and vice versa.

Tell me what you think, it's still very rough.

Also, armies and manpower.
Spoiler Armies and Manpower :

Armies
Armies are the soldiers that fight for you. The kinds of Armies are divided into Land, Air and Sea.
Land:
Infantry: Very basic. Requires 10 manpower the regiment and 1 ammo per attack. If disbanded you will get any unused ammo and the manpower back.
SAM Infantry: Acts as a mobile SAM. Wherever they are, enemy planes are shot down. Requires 20 manpower, 2 ammo per attack and 1 rocket ammo per plane.
Army Trucks: Faster than infantry and can actually carry them. Requires oil, 20 manpower.

I don't like how you have to have a certain government to control certain regions.

I don't like how you have to have a certain government to control certain regions.

Are you talking about Somalia? While the Somaliland area is democratic, it is not recognized and thus allows the Somalian government style. As well as that, nations that are not anarchies can declare war to put a government in place - the regions will all change to either democratic or dictatorial.

I had an idea: How about a people's opinion, or happiness, to work like RR?

Here's what I thought:

:D - Very happy with the ruler's performance. You are much more likely to get bonuses and much more likely to have a good event when an event occurs.

:) - Happy with the ruler's performance. Not as good as very happy, but you are still likely to get bonuses and good events.

:undecide: - Neutral with the ruler's performance. There is now a 50/50 chance of getting bonuses or not, and good or bad events.

:( - Unhappy with the ruler's performance. You are now more likely to get penalties and bad events.

 - Very unhappy with the ruler's performance. It is much more likely to have penalties and bad events with this opinion.

All these opinions have a RR, but at very happy, it's almost nothing. OTOH, at very unhappy the RR is quite high. Basically a revolt is more likely as you go down the scale.

Thoughts about the idea?

How to quantify it would be the hardest issue. At what point do you go from one level to another?

I may have added a bit more provinces, but if you want less, just let me know I'll fix it

@Maxa, that's pretty much what I have in Iron and Blood, except I call it Stability instead of Happiness.

It is alot like stability, although when I use it, you can't just invest money into making them happier. You must use other means, like low taxes (another idea I was thinking about) or luxuries (Civ much? :p) or maybe your standing with the rest of the world in tech, military, etc.

Maxa, that sounds very good. Mind if I use it?

I don't mind, the idea was for any IOT, not just mine.

Happiness=/=Stability so luxuries wouldn't make sense since I highly doubt spices makes India more stable. Likewise, low taxes may make people happier but also has little to do with stability.
