IOT Developmental Thread

I have an Idea: Counter-Colonialism. The Dark Ages after the fall of the Roman Empire ends much later (Maybe have Char. have a heart attack or something). This leads to an extremely poor Europe. This, combined with the isolationist policies of Asia, allow the Americas to develop their civilizations without hinder. Eventually, they reach their own gunpowder age, and set sail foward. What they see is lucrative markets in Asia, and some nice items to give the Asian markets in Europe. The major powers of the Americas set out colonies in order to secure goods. However, the natives will not go down without a fight, and unlike our OTL, they have a fuctioning immune systyem.

I know the scenerio is very unplausible, but fun. People can be either a charter colony or a European native "tribe". America will be mapped out, but no one can be the actual nation itself. However, stuff going on there, with the most obvious being declaration of wars, can effect the colonies. Colonies supported by the same nation may not declare war, embargo or other negitive stuff on each other. I might even limit DoWs from colonies to only natives. Eventually, you can declare independence, which will be the colonial victory goal. Natives have no restrictions diplo-wise, but will not fare well against Ameros. They can increase their tech level, however, to bridge the gap. I'm not sure what their victory would be, I was thinking closing the tech gap, but that seems boring.

That doesn't make any sense. The entire world should be colonized.

Well, when the British wanted tea from China, did they conquor China, or used one of their own goods to (illegally) trade for tea? Its simply not effective for someone to put a colony where an established empire is already, unless there is a massive (As in Spain vs. Aztec massive) tech difference. It would cost less to just trade goods from Europe to Asia than to seize Asia.

One thing that really bugged me in this was the Moors. I really couldn't find a reason why they wouldn't just landgrab Spain and other portions of Europe. Byzantium I could have handwaved by saying barbarians sacked Constantinople or even just making them isolationist (Common theme here, huh? :mischief:). I thought about saying they, along with other Muslim empires, turned East due to Europe being dirt poor, but there's got to be a better way.

I would love it if someone made a map for me of the Americas that was based more on geography than latitude and longitiude. I'm mostly likely use the Napoleonic IOT map for Europe

Black Plague. Muslims didn't want to get involved in that mess. It lingered longer due to not even having pointy nosed doctors.

Things you should know about IOT: Colonialism II:

First, it's name will not be Colonialism 2. (:p) Because you can now successfully create a huge empire in Europe unlike the first, therefore making colonization simply an option, it's name will be:

Imperium Offtopicum: The Age of Discovery

Second, navies this time. :goodjob: Well, actually I'm adding a couple things...

Slaves
Iron & Blood esque battle system (with several modifiers)
Tech
A larger gap between provinces and colonies, now they have disadvantages and advantages to the other.
Revolts
And a bunch more...

If you played IOTC, you will know the start area became cramped WAY too quickly. So I made these changes:

Map expanded, West Russia now accessible
More provinces
Dropped coast requirement
You might start with 5 claims, but I'm not sure on this yet.
Lastly, you need settlers for claiming in the start point now along with colonies.

Lastly, the resources are now images, not just colors on a province. This means we can put nations and resources on the same map.

The Black Plauge was an Asian disease, caused by the Mong-

Oh crap, I never even though of the Mongols! Genghis puts a huge damper in my plans. Imagine how easy it would have been for Ögedei Khan to simply walk over the Europeans in this timeline. Even if he still dies before he attacks Europe, I don't think his succesors would hesitate as much. And then there's the Golden Horde, as well...

Sometimes, I wish there was an IoT where everyone could just sit back, relax, and settle their differences with gladiatorial contests involving laser beams.

Omega, you'll think of something. If Europe and America have changed histories, why can't the rest of the world follow suit?

I think I might make a renaissance IOT sometime, I just never have had the time, I made this map in December.

That is, frankly, a horrendous map. That's the nicest thing I can say about it.

If you want, I can make that my next project.

How about a future-themed IOT? Maybe starting around 2076 or so? Sort of like Risk 2100 AD, in a way. I still haven't figured out how exactly it would work or be different, but any thoughts?

Risk 2100 AD

Red launches nuke.

Game Over.

Rematch: Y/N?

There wouldnt be WMDs in it however, or they would be severly limited.

So, it would be a World War 2 game?

Replace riflemen with laser infantry, cavalry with "hover tanks", and cannons with "plasma artillery" and it's all pretty much the same concept wise.

Yes, in a way, But you would be able to build space colonies and I am thinking of having three maps: one for Earth, one for the Moon, and one for Mars, and I am thinking of implementing a "wonder" system. You wouldn't be able to colonize space until mid-game in order not to give anyone an early-game advantage.

When is it starting I have a similar game on hold (IOT World of Trade)

At which point it isn't really a game of Risk set in the future anymore.

@NN

And I have one waiting too!
