IOT Developmental Thread

Ok, IOT:AoD's rule set is just about complete. I'm thinking about adding Casus Belli's, but I'd like to know if the players would prefer that or a more free system, like that of Iron and Blood.

Personally, I prefer a more free system of declaring war. But if this is meant to be on the more complex side of IOTs, then go ahead and add them if you wish.

Casus belli have their advantages in controlling warmongerers, but the penalties must be harsh to do so.

A better idea, I feel, is to have an invisible hand behind all diplomacy; if you wage war too much, bad things - revolts, intervention, etc. - are more likely to happen. NPCs are very useful at discipling players.

I'm gonna be gone for a few days, so you guys can decide while I'm gone.

I never understood the control warmongerers thing. It's what some players want to do, leave it to the rest of the players to kick their face in.

Players don't usually punish warmongers from my experience. They usually if anything, join in on a partition. We're all in conqueror mode; some players are just more subtle about it.

I guess I'm the only one who isn't always out to win. Meh.

Most of the time I am not too.

At the very least, perhaps a numbering system (like the Wars of the Roses or IOT 7 maps) would help.

I could do that. By region, as well.

The Franco-Swazi War of Containment cares to disagree.

The best solution is to get rid of alliance victories and have at least one victory that doesn't require you to conquer the world. That is, if you do victories.

The conquer all needs to be as difficult as peace and love, otherwise one feels like a cheap cop-out, like building the UN in Civ V.

Depends, I feel like in SonIOT, conquering another player probably isn't difficult if they're weaker than you and maybe easy if you're a strategic genius if you're forced to fight on otherwise equal terms. It's up to players to try to balance the power.

Of course, there's a low reward for conquering puny babies. That isn't like other IoTs, where land (or buildings) = money, and more land always means more money. In your game, it just means you get to troll people more if they invade you.

What do you mean, 'Guns or Butter'?

But seriously:

I noticed IOT7 and I&B have wikis, so I got thinking, what about one covering the whole series?
