You geeky nit-picking bastard. :p

You're getting mad at people for not being able to think not like people.

That makes total sense.

Well, I see a lack of solid numbers (which I suppose probably bothers most people less, but I would like to know the baseline mechanics).

That's too broad to adequately answer in one go.

And I'm not a fan of your colonization categories - as I noted before, what's easy for a synth to colonise should not be easy for an aquatic or humanoid to colonise, and vice-versa.

It won't. Depending on the circumstance, founding and maintaining a colony will cost various amounts of resources. There is no set cost for any project.

Now jumping into my complaint about most/all sci-fi with aliens: They're too similar to what we know. That being said, I suspect you neither care nor agree with me, so to each their own :p

If we were to base this on what we don't know, it would escalate to huge amounts of stupid very, very fast.

:agree:

You only have to look at, oh, dunno... FORMATICS? :p

Joan, the Formatics were meant to accelerate to huge amounts of stupid very fast. That's the point.

Precisely.

It's possible to diverge from "what we know exists" without reaching "what we can't imagine."

That being said, I'm in the school that suspects we'd probably not recognize alien life as life, if we encountered it (granted, I don't think we'll ever actually have the technology to do so, either...)

I'm not. We're gonna find something eventually, even if it takes the rest of time.

We can invent anything if we set our minds to it. I'm sure that if we find anything, we'll eventually contact it. The only thing that can stop us is ourselves.

Have you changed you avatar LH?

Nonsense. Once we invent warp drives, it'll be like teleportation.

How dare you doubt human capabilities to invent such a thing.

I'm not saying we can invent them now, but we will invent them if we don't all die of deathitis. We need more gateway tech.

Just use "superscientific space drives" and leave it. Gameplay does not demand physics. Besides, by then it will be so complex the common man can't explain it, and even experts who didn't specialize specifically on it can only sprout a mixture of physics equations and bs.

This drive will have whatever properties the game demands.

As nanowrimo says, the fire spreads as far as the plot demands.

The drive works as well as the gameplay demands.
