IOT Developmental Thread

Dark red (not maroon). Main bases are in South America, Southern Europe and the Congo; also owns northern Turkey and scattered islands in the Atlantic. It's Taniciusfox's nation and if his posturing is to be believed, you don't want them as a neighbour.

We come in peace!

...so long as you're furry. Otherwise, why are you not in a labor camp? Work makes you f(ur)ree!

Well then I'll pick Portugal.

Because what's a better start position than a nation with a destroyed economy living in irradiated wastes, with a thriving marauder population, a stuggling militar, and a powerful enemy-neighbor?

I look forward to "befriending" Brazzaville. Oh yes, yes I do.

Likewise, it will be interesting to be taking the seat of a major power that has both a political and racial reputation around the world. Will I patch it up, or tarnish it even further?

Alright, alright, the last questions:

Starting rep: My original plan was to normalize everyone's scores, mainly so the particularly nuke-happy won't face rebellions from the get-go; given it's been twenty years, would players prefer a total reset?

Diplomacy: We can carry over some agreements from last game, but these are few and far between: GUN is dead, overseas trades are scrapped, and any treaty featuring more than two signatories is off the table. Or for clarity's sake, should we just renegotiate on the first turn?

Territorial atrophy: I mentioned this earlier. Given the devastation of some of the particularly expansive nations, are players open to recession, specifically Petrograd in the Far East and the Marians and Germany in Europe? These are heavily contaminated areas and will fall prey to the Abhorrents early in the game, so holding onto them is difficult anyway.

Also, since Omega has his heart set on the KNE and I suspect e350tb may not have time to rejoin even if he is following, I'm willing to default the British core in England and Holland; assume the administration down under lost control of the government in the past decades. Give me a colour (I know there aren't many left :p) and I can list it alongside the vets when the thread goes up.

Borders: Aesthetic more than anything else. How would people like if I recoloured the territorial dividing lines to match our nations as of the start of the game? Gives a unique flavour and may help discourage templating.

Depends how many people reply in the next few hours. Odds are it'll start tomorrow.

Ok, it looks good.

Might as well have territorial atrophy. It will give Sombra something to rally the people around, well, apart from the "humans are bastards" quip.

For rep and treaties, reset's good. It's also less work for you!

Not unless you want to. Most of the vets will and the NPCs were opened up as a counterbalance for new players, but brand-new nations are still an option.

I'm not against a total restart, tbh. Its been pretty long for us "vets", or at least feels like it, and I'm sure new players would like a chance to start on equal footing in terms of rep. However, I kinda feel that having a somewhat scale based on the original IOT4 would be nice. Either works.

Think renegotiate first turn is best. If doing this, would make first turn like 4-5 days, or a little longer.

Don't care about territorial atrophy or borders.

Starting rep: would players prefer a total reset?

Yes.

Diplomacy: we just renegotiate on the first turn?

Yes.

Territorial atrophy

Don't really mind either way.

Please no. What if we halved the reputations from the last game so that nations with good reps can keep it, and nations with bad reps have to pay for "crimes against humanity", but new players aren't too disadvantaged.

Diplomacy: Should we just renegotiate on the first turn?

Sounds good. I don't even remember what my relations were.

Territorial atrophy: Are players open to recession?

Not exactly sure what you mean, but it sounds like it would open up more room on the map, so sure.

Not exactly sure what you mean, but it sounds cool!

Sombra is eager to oversee a "Crimes Against Furryanity" convention!

Territorial atrophy will just make the Abhorrents that much stronger... to which Sombra's foreign statesman can only say:

John Kerry would like to remind Sombra that Vermont sided with them in the last war, plus we send them annual tribute of Cheese and Ice Cream, so show us mercy.:please:

Pending Omega's response, here is the world map with the cosmetic tweak I spoke of:

Spoiler :

Reputation has been shrunk by about two thirds, so even the worst perpetrators now face manageable levels (peaks at -12 and 11). Also be advised that half the players lost their capitals in the war, so decide on your new ones for your introductions.
